There's so many great bands and albums from Germany in the early 70s that sound like nothing else - and have become extremely influential in recent decades (e.g., the motorik beat that Jaki from CAN perfected can be heard in many places).
I really like Neu! and also Michael Rother's work with Cluster as Harmonia. "Deluxe" being my favorite album from them.
Rother's solo albums are great too, especially his first one from 1977. All of those things are a little less intense than Neu! but I really enjoy them.
They're different bands. One is guitar driven, the other synth
kraftwerk's first two albums were a bit more neu!-like. dinger even played drums on the first one. and for about 12 months in 1970 kraftwerk consisted of hutter + rother and dinger from neu!.
kraftwerk jumped the shark for me after autobahn, but their first two albums sound like a different band.

It's a shame that they distance themselves from their first three albums. I'd love a proper reissue of those. They've reissued Autobahn and after so many times, but they don't even acknowledge the first 3. Now with YouTube it doesn't matter that much, but I'd definitely buy rereleases of those 3.
