Thoughts on TE group for next year?

kash94 : 12/2/2021 6:13 pm
Any thoughts on how to address the group for next year.

Engram is a UFA and is certain to be gone

Rudolph gets cut IMO. Giants save $5mn going into a year in which they'll be cap strapped

No one else on the roster is worth keeping IMO.

Would you rather sign a FA or go through the draft? Blocking or receiving focused TE?
I've been running mock drafts for the last few weeks and I've

generally drafted two, one receiving-type tight end with a good set of hands and a larger, in-line tight end who's a strong blocker.
Bring Kaden Smith back........

and possibly a guy like Myarick or one of the PS candidates that shined last training camp and then you have to draft one that has potential. Doesn’t have to be first or second round, but clearly a guy that could be a starter, especially if Engram is let go.
draft

a TE or Two and pay them little on a rookie deal. How many late round TE's pan out for teams around the league? It seems like most of the top TE's are late rounders (Kelce in the third, Darren Waller in the 6th, Schultz in the 4th, Andrews in the 3rd etc etc). Heck our best TE's in the last 10 or so years were undrafted and a 5th round pick (Jake Ballard and Kevin Boss).
I don't know where he's rated

but I've been watching Brant Kuithe at U of Utah for the past 3 years and if he's available on Day 3 I'd take a look. Not real big at 6'2", 230, but a super receiver who plays with a great motor. gets open and has real good YAC. Don't know how strong a blocker he's considered to be

From Ohio State in like the 4th round. Willing blocker, good hands, deceptive speed. Can find spots in the zone and be the underneath check down for whomever is at QB.
The solution is to sign Toilolo to a long term contract.

To see if Rysen John is able to challenge for a roster spot. Looked like he had an interesting skill set before he got hurt in the preseason. Having another year to eat and lift could be just what he needed.

I should put the disclaimer, I’m not exactly going to count on him, I just think he’s a guy with potential.
Whoever our next TE is...

the guy cannot be a weak blocker. We have no use for a guy who is nothing more than a heavier WR in that position and a liability in our run game

The new dude whose name escapes me impressed me vs. the Eagles. I liked how on that one play after he got pushed to the ground, he got right back up & caught a pass from Jones. And his TD catch was damn impressive.

you have to bring this into the world, now they’re going to use one of the 1st round picks on one..
Need to take 1-2 in the draft

and sign at least 1 mid-tier FA. It is too important a position to ignore.
It’s hard to tell at this point

Engram is as good as gone. Kaden Smith has flashed here and there.

The WR group may be set with Toney, Golladay, Slayton, Shep (if he agrees to a pay cut) and Colin Johnson. Not saying I don’t think they need more talent here but contractually they are set for 2022.

A lot of it depends on who the new OC will be obviously, but I’m thinking they keep Kaden Smith, draft a Friermuth type that can block and catch, and possibly keep Rudolph to mentor the rookie for a season.

It was only 'impressive' (and incredibly lucky) because he didn't make what should have been an easy, clean catch.
Doesn’t seem to be any top tier TE in 22 draft
Payasdaddy : 12/2/2021 9:26 pm : link
Hopefully value lines up with a two way TE rounds 3-5. I want one who blocks first and is an adequate moves the chains guy. Maybe what Rudolph was a yr or 2 ago ( not peak) or a better version of kaden smith
Those should be able to be had in that area
And yes I would double dip, one in 4th and fifth works for me
It's always about availability...

But the Giants should put a priority on TE in both free agency and the draft. Look what Bill Belichick does year in and year out. He's never satisfied with just one good TE. Last year he signed both Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry.
Yeah
mdthedream : 12/3/2021 7:32 am : link
Bill spent a boat load on two TE. I don't see us doing that but the Giants should just bring in a solid vet not as old and slow as the guy we brought in this year. There are always good vet TE on the market at a good price.
