Starting with the 17 draft if we could have chosen any QB regardless of the Giants actual draft position, for example Mahomes, Allen, Murray etc. would the Giants be a legit Superbowl contender this year with the current roster?
I have to think the FO that has the smarts to pick a good QB also has the acumen to acquire a decent team around them, so I think the premise that the rest of the team would be similar is flawed.
Look at Saquon. Picking him at the time was like buying a Lamborghini keeping it parked on the street. Nice car, too bad its going to get fu**ed up out there.
but I think he can definitely be effective if he played with a decent team and game plan, which is better than most of the NFL. Sy's review doesn't sound like a guy who stinks to me.
"ones also added 30 yards on 9 rushing attempts. Make no mistake about it, this was another horrid offensive day for the Giants when taking a step back and looking at the big picture. 264 yards of offense, 4.6 yards per play are bottom of the barrel. There were a few things that went wrong, but I think Jones was one of the main reasons this team won. Was it a standout performance? No. But he went 11/16 in the 2nd half and a near-essential 6/7 on the final drive that resulted in points to put NYG up by more than a field goal. He made a few tough throws and stood in the pocket strong, showing awareness and toughness with quality footwork."
Jones has had a terrible situation to deal with. I am fairly confident he is not someone I see winning a championship with but I think his performance would be quite a bit better had he had some stronger components; OL, RB's, good 2 way TE, capable skill guys and a HC who prioritized protecting and advancing him over time.
When Eli, Ben and Rivers came into the league I thought all three teams did a outstanding job supporting them. Ben had a great situation from the start, Rivers was very solid, and Eli's situation was strong by year 2.
To me I like to see the above happen first before attempting again.
How can you take a hypothetical question and say the Giants would absolutely be above .500 with a different QB? Even if we had Murray, Allen, Mahomes, Lamar Jackson or Justin Herbert, there is no way of telling if they would fare any better than DJ8.
given the issues with playcalling, injuries, and OL talent. And yes, that can make it tricky. But I still think Jones has shown us who he is, and he's not a second contract/franchise QB. His own health is a big factor as well. I'm just worried the front office has or will convinced themselves that he's not to blame. 9ts a very real possibility. Doubling down on poor decisions and smoking it to the filter is one of their hallmarks.
Well according to some on here, Glennon will now light it up
because he's....not Daniel Jones. Oh and Fromm is the second coming of Mike White except he hasn't played in a game yet. So yeah both quarterbacks will make a difference cause Jones plays with 'reckless abandon' and his legs are the problem or is it his head. Though between Jones and Eli, I don't think this place has ever liked the quarterback we have when he's playing. Hell some on here think Geno Smith was robbed of the job when Eli was restored back to starter.
Replace DJ with a top-tier QB for the past 2-3 seasons, and
we'd have had about 3 more wins per season. Our running game, pass protection, and literally lame receiving corps would be unchanged. Mr. Wonderful would be running for his life, just as DJ has. We might have reached .500, but not much beyond that.

For real?? You cant even type Jones anywhere near those other QBs.

Because it’s a hypothetical question asked on the Internet, you can answer any Way you want
but I have zero doubt that Mahomes would lead us to the NFCE title. His ability to make plays off script with that arm would absolutely lead to more Ws.
I feel similarly about LJax. Not to the level I feel about Mahomes, but I think LJax's ability to make play and score TDs would very impactful. He is a football player who scores points while playing QB.
Herbert is great. But I think he found a great place in LA that fits his personality and he can continue to grow with that team. For some reason, and this is strictly intuition, I could see our organization screwing him up...
I’m not sure if this is the point you are trying to make
Are we winning a Super Bowl with a good OL and this QB? Or Why bother upgrading the OL when you have a crap QB?
Of course those questions are dumb too. If we want to have a legitimately good team - the kind that competes in the playoffs for multiple years - we need a much better QB and a much better OL.
Nobody seems to have an emotional attachment to a bad OL. But people do for a bad QB.
yea what difference does a QB make. They're all basically interchangeable. Mahomes, Rodgers, Burrow, Herbert, Stafford, etc.. they're basically just like Daniel Jones. [/s]
it would make much of a difference. Doesn't matter when you don't have players that can make plays themselves. The team stinks top to bottom, one player isn't going to move the needle.
We had a chance to lure Brady, but Tampa took him, age and all
We might have a shot this off-season for Rodgers
I personally think he is an odd ball but love how he plays the game.....very smart, very mobile, can drop a dime even when on the run. To be honest Rodgers is better right now than Brady

You're on crack if you think any QB would have this team in the Super Bowl. Is Tom Brady going to make the OLine block? Is Rogers going to catch passes for Barkley, Slayton, and Engram?
Absolute insanity
Above .500? Absolutely

boom-CHEE!
they would still be bad. too many OL, injury issues, not enough impact players generally
but most likely no
the line sucks, we have no Pass rush and our linebacker core is bottom of the league.
until those get fixed or at least upgraded to middle of the pack we're doomed.

To be clear, I am not personally calling Jones a mistake (yet). But at the the same time don’t have many strong arguments for those that do.

Nobody seems to have an emotional attachment to a bad OL. But people do for a bad QB.
It's fatalistic, and up there with other bullshit like "Jones isn't the biggest problem" and "fix the OL first".
There is a fear of risk that has set in because Jones has been a disaster. Forget that shit.
Some other other QBs, no.
