was gonna be good for a while. The offense was so bad that year, my only hope in that game was playoff Eli would show up. He did, but the yachtsmen were not up to the challenge.
As for now, I am enjoying watching the defense this year. There are a bunch of good young players I hope will lead the next good period of giants football. I think a stud edge and the continued development of aziz and X man will put these guys to the next level
literally almost a decade. Even in few years where offense was good, the defense was terrible. That 2016 season was a fluky year. They were mostly a mediocre team. Division was mostly bad which helped. Defense carried them. Offense and specials were pretty bad.

To me, this organization has been in a complete rut since October 2012, right when Sandy whacked the Northeast. We were 6-2 when Sandy hit & finished 3-5. That Washington game on MNF-I believe we lost by 1-still pisses me off.
In my childhood, there was nothing better than those late season games with major playoff implications.
The Giants would always be on the 4pm games with Buck/Aikman on the call, or even SNF games. And there would be that bottled up excitement while waiting all day for the Giants to play.
I don't get that anymore, even when the Giants did play on MNF a couple weeks ago. They aren't fun to watch and there isn't any potential for this current team to do anything special.
I'd say the last time I felt that was 2012. Maybe a bit in 2016, but deep down we all knew that team wasn't going anywhere because the only way they could score was Odell taking a slant to the house.

I vaguely recall a questionable holding call detailing a late drive.
2016 seemed, to me, a fluky team even as the season was even going on.
The saddest part at the end of 2012 was being completely puzzled by the no-shows against Atlanta and Baltimore. I thought they were way better than that.
I remember the Giants had a legit chance at finding their way to the playoffs that year and to ... defend their Super Bowl title?
I remember being stunned by the 34-0 embarrassment against the Falcons. Just could not believe that was the same team the Giants waxed at home 24-2.
Now? If I were to sleep in during a game or see 34-0 or 51-0 on my phone? I'd think nothing of it.
Also I think that their spot wound up dropping to some shitty Minnesota team who looked dead in the water by the end of the year. Nope. Easy clincher when the Giants shoot themselves in the foot.
I remember watching that 2012 Giants Falcons game @ a random bar in metro Nashville-had a wedding that weekend down there-& the Giants just no showing. Pathetic performance. That was a good ATL team, but the Giants didn't even put up a fight.
The last time I can remember really liking this team was the kids in Philly where Tynes came up short on the 51 yard game winner. I think that was 2012, but who knows. Can barely see in this wilderness of bad football.
Was the last ass-kicking dominant season. Every week we dominated the trenches on both sides of the ball and Eli had a superb year. 2011 was shaky until Cruz’s 99 yard TD flipped the script. 2016 was Beckham and a stout D.
Lowest moment for me was 2013 against the Panthers. That’s when I realized the Giants sucked. I’ve had that feeling at least 50 times since then. Thinking, yup this makes sense because the Giants suck.
- Tampa this year
- Baltimore last year
- Patriots in 2019
- Titans in 2018
- Rams in 2017
They are just grating examples of how this franchise is lost in space. Cannot compete against the better teams in any of these years. Embarrassed by halftime in many. Posters living in denial. Sad.
Find a new GM that is good at player evaluation. Make smart decisions with available cap money and try to find value in every single draft pick. Every one. This will make the family crap irrelevant and the turn this thing around...

I think literally Hurricane Sandy is when the team collapsed.
Matt M.: I think DBB meant X-avier (McKinney), not X-imines.
They were good, not great, kind on the tier of the better Fassel teams. Odell was just awesome. The Giants never had anyone like him and maybe never will. Shame that his body and mind did not sustain. I liked Snacks, Collins, JPP.
They were not a great team, didn't really have playoff upside. I found the GB loss easy to take because we just weren't as good as them. But it was an enjoyable season.
people mention the offense being good some years recently..and I don't agree at all. The offense has been a complete shit-show since Hurricane Sandy. I still remember the first few weeks of 2013 and the o-line could not even execute a simple play. It was a shock to the system and now I'm numb to it. Feel like I've said for the past four seasons, "If they get it right this offseason they can be competitive in about two years." They haven't had that get it right offseason yet. If a good GM is hired, we may have competitive football in 2024, otherwise, maybe 2030 if we're lucky.
Sandy ... but didn't they beat the Saints and the Packers at home weeks after? They lost that Monday Night Football game against the Redskins around this time of year because Washington had a horseshoe up their asses on one of their touchdowns.
My point is after the 34-0 Falcons game, something just didn't add up. That one still had me puzzled the next day at work.
There were playoff implications on the line going into that one. They showed up and get shut out even though they just scored 50 something points the week before? I know New Orleans defense was terrible but at least back then it was surprising when they got blown out. You don't see shutouts too often in the NFL. Who would have thought that game would be one of SIX that the Giants would be on the wrong end of from 2012-2018? Fucking pathetic.
I realize Eli had his particular limitations, but the last eight years of his career suggest that a quarterback can only do so much. For all the deserved venom directed at Reese and Ross for the supporting cast they assembled in those years, I'm not sure the current depth chart is any better.

Roster is better on the defensive side although it's not an impactful because of type of scheme and no pass rush.
The difference is these latest few Offensive teams just don't score touchdowns, it's beyond ridiculous. Even when they do it is painful to watch like taking 4 downs from the 1 yard line to do it, or a TE catching a ball that slips between his legs. At least Eli scored points for a number of years after those Super Bowls.
Now, if the Defense plays well, it's still a one score game down to the wire and we lose some of them. And if they face a good opposing Offense who can put up points then we get blown out since our guys can't possibly keep up.
I liked the 2016 team (not loved) because they really got
some good momentum playing shut down Defense, and they beat the Cowboys twice that year. But you could see the issues coming on Offense with Flowers being a joke, Eli declining and nobody other than OBJ stepping up to make plays.
They really haven't been good as an overall team since that stretch run in 2011/2012...

2008-10 missing rings. Boy what a great nucleus they had.
The best team in my adult years was 2008. No question about it. Plax shooting himself and the ensuing tailspin was a brutal collapse
Haha, I did.
Hey, it should be expiring soon!

Those 2005-2012 teams were always relevant. Maximum SNF games each of those seasons. I miss it.

Anyway, The last time I thought the Giants were good was early in the fourth quarter of a game against Pittsburgh in 2012.

This is true. And lucky for us, 10 years is just about up come February 5th!!

kind of came out of nowhere
If the Offense can do the same this Sunday we might be going somewhere
