end of the game strategy against Philly

Grizz99 : 12/4/2021 2:07 pm
Qualifier; I'm going to be careful because I saw the game in a bar, the sound was low and a lovely lady was competing for my attention.
I don't think i saw what I thought I saw or it would be plastered all over a place that loves to criticize.
Giants get the ball with slim lead and little time on clock. Instead of safe running plays with some (if limited) potential for a game ending first down, they run QB rollouts attempting to take seconds off the clock.
Doesn't work. Phila. gets the ball back with time and only a case of bad hands preserves the win.
OK, if that indeed is what happened, what is going on?
Is that as bad as I think it is?
I've always felt that Gettleman has done a good job assembling talent and I've tuned out the endless droning criticisms. I've slowly been coming to the conclusion tHat Judge is hopelessly over his head and perhaps the real problem.
This, if it's really how it came down, reinforces those vague feelings.
Recognizing that this opens me to the BBI Sniper corp, I remain.....Befuddled.
Strategy has been vetted here with mostly positives.

When we got the ball with less then 2 minutes (IIRC) left, Eagles had 3 timeouts. We ran 3x (including DJ sliding to stay in bounds) to force them to use timeouts - which they did. The only chink in the plan was a poor punt, which gave them field position around their 40. That made it exciting. A good punt would have resulted in a fair catch around the 20. Hence the negative feedback on our punter.

PS - “…lovely lady …etc” - you’re just braggin’. 😎
Not sure I follow what your issue is?

Are you suggesting the Giants should have run the ball 3 times up the middle versus the QB rollouts?

Maybe they were hoping for Eagles to have an error in coverage or instructed Jones that he could throw it if he had a safe toss.

In either case, it's a punt on fourth down, so what's the problem?

It was the right strategy

You can't have any incompletions or going out of bounds in that spot. Unless you are guaranteed to get the first down, make Philly use their timeouts on defense.
This is the far more Befuddling part

Judge IS the problem!!!

He can’t take the real bad collect of OLine talent that Gettleman has gotten and made them into a Super Bowl team. He hasn’t got those skills!!

We also need Judge to coach up his QB so he can play lights out football while running for his life because Gettleman did draft Olineman correctly . Judge has NOT done this!

Judge needs to coach in physical toughness into the QB because he’s going to get drilled week and week because Gettleman didn’t provide a quality OLine

Yup Judge needs to go.

Unbelievable
Tangential argument...another time

But thanks for the explanation. And surprised that I missed the clarifying discussion.

What's "unbelieveable" is bleed blue fanatics who continue to believe this guy got the job due to some qualifications outside of having Lil Bill's cell phone number and that he is competent to keep it.

McAdoo at least got a playoff game out of his free agent dollar gift. Lombar er' Judge can't get to .500. Meanwhile, down the road, Rivera got a playoff spot and is competing for another with a cast off bum qb, a converted wideout for a rb, a converted qb for a te, our castoff tackle at guard and our castoff saftey starting on defense.

Keep thinking your wishes are reality. Fairy tales can come true; it can happen to you . . .
The secondary seems to be forming like Voltron

takes 5 years to judge a GM properly, but people on the internets like to yell and screech things over and over again.

Is in his second year so what we are hoping for is progress in his decisions. I see one awesome step for progress- he fired the Mara’s step child, Jason Garrett. I’m sure that was not easy.

Getting back to the Giants using the three plays to get the Eagles to use all their TOs….this has been discussed with both sides making good points. I don’t like that thinking either, but……it seems like many decisions made are all factoring in our crappy OL….we don’t want a sack/fumble or an interception on a hurried thrown ball, so for now, this lack of trust in our OL and probably our QB too means playing it conservatively is not THAT bad option….maybe not the best, but certainly not a bad one.

As for me….Judge is still being evaluated by myself, but for now, I don’t see his mistakes being THAT egregious to warrant a dismissal.

I agree with this take.

You're asking a person who can't figure out line breaks to somehow understand football strategy?

Wait until he responds with an ad hominem attack against me for pointing this out.

I'm not sure what JohnB is talking about but you realize that the Giants OL was ranked 31st last year and was currently ranked 31st after the 1st ten weeks in the NFL according to PFF, right?

SO are you suggesting that you can't tell the difference between 6 and 31?

Secondly, taking the 2 straight years of 31, the teams that were / are 32 were better the other year. That would mean though week of the this year that the Giants OL is THE WORST in the NFL. You don't think that matters?
Maybe one of these days we’ll try and make a first down or two

to close out the game rather than just set our opponents up for a last chance drive.
Booker and Penny should have been in on that last series
