This is probably true. Strangely, I think winning Super Bowl 46 was bad for the franchise, if Mara truly is the problem. That Super Bowl validated 42 for him and inflated his head to a point it should not be. He thought it proved that he didn’t just inherit a solid team but was capable of maintaining/building a winning roster. Although when you analyze the rosters of 42/46, we all know the core players that mattered were all still there. That game made him think he was a great owner.

And we have suffered ever since.

However a blind squirrel can find a nut. I'm hoping that Judge has had enough of Jones and Barkley and convinces Mara to trade them both.

Dave Gettleman assembled the worst Giants team of many of our lifetimes. He'll be gone soon.

The question is whether Jones and Barkley are gone with him. Hopefully they are.

If this is what you sincerely believe you should probably find a new team or a new hobby.

That is how many fans of the WFT and cowboys have coped for 20 years.

Winning the super bowl being bad for the franchise is IMO nonsensical. I kinda sorta understand the sentiment but winning the Super Bowl IS THE POINT of every season so I can’t see how it’s bad

Every season there are a bunch of close games in the NFL. Teams in the playoffs won most of those and those picking early lost most. If we had won against Washington, Atlanta and KC we would be 7-4. We could have won those games. At 7-4 we would still want to see better players and improvement but people would not want to burn it down. We will draft good players and improve next year and be better but it will take a while to be great.

Mara is the fundamental problem, but Gettleman was the instrument of these past four seasons. Jones and Barkley are Gettleman - Judge inherited them.

Barkley and Jones have proven their ineffectiveness - if Judge is Mara's guy it's going to be tough for him to mandate that they be kept. Hopefully Judge wants better players.
When will it end
joeinpa : 12/4/2021 7:51 pm : link
As soon as they build a good offensive line. They have swung and struck out so far. If a new GM can fix that, it could end by next season.

There are pieces in place.

It has been an absolute nightmare being a Giant fan

Even 2016 we knew they weren’t as good as their record.

Something has to change. I feel like ownership has to do something drastic to turn the tables here. They can’t be the worst team in the NFL this many seasons in a row. Something’s gotta give.
DG really crapped the bed

I thought we were set up for good yr this yr
Thought 10-7
Figured oline would be good enough, KG and saquon would produce Jones would look a bit better
Instead we started like we didn’t have training camp, oline decimated. Offense playmakers always hurt
Defense I thought we may be slightly better with maybe some sort of pass rush
Blake M injury didn’t help, no pass rush mounted. D has been decent lately
I hate DG made a mess of our salary cap after it looked to be finally in good shape last 2 yrs
I am disgusted. I would live thru the contracts in 2022, clean house in 2023 when we can make a few more cuts without as much harm. And hopefully draft well this yr to improve core
Winning the Super Bowl in 2011 wasn't a bad thing

Easier said than done. They’ve tried and failed twice to build up an OL that can sustain a multi year run or at least some development going back five or six years. Also, I don’t share your optimism on “pieces in place”. Jones is quite frankly a very mediocre QB. RB and TE look to need immediate reinvestment and depth quickly.

christian : 12/4/2021 8:49 pm : link
Things will change when ownership stops making the same mistake the hopelessly optimistic fans have made.

Things will not get better just because:

1) why not us?
2) it’s bound to be our year
3) we lost, but the team didn’t quit
4) if you just take away the bad or close games, we were right there
5) there was a lot of progress that didn’t show up on the scoreboard

Things will get better when:

1) they hire a competent general manager and SVP who is a leader, whip smart, and assuages Mara’s fears
2) they exercise modern resource allocation and team architecture
3) they have a quarterback who can create points at a modern clip
4) they have 7-10 above average starters who are on their rookie contracts

Yeah, and we lose those games year after year because we suck and don't know how to win them and aren't capable of winning them.

I have zero confidence in John Mara's ability to hire the right person...zero.

Someone has to make that decision for him.... and I am not referring to Acorsi.
Injuries this year sucked
dancing blue bear : 12/4/2021 11:16 pm : link
But to me the problem this year was coaching. Particularly early I. The season.

This team was not ready for the season. We were counting on a solid defense to hold serve while the O got Footing. They were bad for 6 weeks. The offense is still putrid and honestly judge who I still think could become a good coach pissed away 2 - 3 wins with his pre season approach and ultra conservative nature plus poor in game decisions.

The O line was thin on the way in but the injuries to our 3 best OL retirement of ourt primary back ups and lack of development for Peary were a perfect storm of shit. DG didn’t get the job done. Period. But no one has that kind of depth.

There is some really good young players on D. We have good skill position players that cannot stay healthy. I’m not getting into Jones. The talent on the team should have more wins.

That said I don’t think the turn around is necessarily years away. Add talent. Build the line and edge this off-season through the draft. If judge learns from his mistakes and improves OR we have a qb we will contend tnext year.

Also record be damned there is still things to watch for this year and we are still mathematically alive in December. I know it sucks and the team was flawed but playing for something in week 17 last year was a welcome change
It doesn't end until

This is clearly Chris Mara posting, btw. Must be. Focusing only on the close loses that they could have won but ignoring the close wins (NO for example, but Philly too) that easily could have been losses.

The team sucks, admit it.

Chris Mara is part of the ownership group. He has solid scouting credentials. He has a fancy title. I agree that it seems awkward having a Mara in the personnel department. The decision-makers, though, are John Mara, Steve Tisch, Dave Gettleman and Joe Judge.”

Some posters believe that a new QB will solve our offensive woes. These same people don’t talk about the importance of the OL to an offense.

Exactly, Greg. And they were still stuck on that blueprint seven years later, when it was clear by October 2013 that 2011 couldn’t be recreated.

Thanks for this, it won’t change the narrative but good to know

Bob Papa, who on Sirius is much more forthcoming on the Giants than in his role a Giants media guy, addressed the Chris Mara issue last season and was adamant he is very well thought of around the league in his role

Would you read that the Giants winning a Super Bowl setback the franchise.
Some of you are unbelievable.
It will take several years to rebuild the Giants into a SB contender
Rick in Dallas : 12/5/2021 7:36 am : link
1.Replace DG with a competent outside the organization GM
2.Revamp the scouting dept where needed
3.Rebuild the OL mostly through the draft into a good run and pass blocking unit
4.Move DL to his natural position of NT.
5.Draft a EDGE player in this next draft. It is deep position in this draft.
6.Draft several LB's in the next several drafts.
7.Need a new TE and RB through the draft or FA.
8.Most important position is QB.We need to draft our hopefully new franchise QB in 2023 as IMHO DJ along with Fromm or Glennon will be our QB next year.

This rebuild will take several years under the guidance of the new GM and revamped scouting dept.

That’s the main problem right there. No confidence in any of those four to know what they are doing.
It will end when management makes better draft decisions
GeofromNJ : 12/5/2021 11:48 am : link
It doesn't take all that much. For example, draft Tunsil instead of Apple. Draft Josh Allen and Nick Chubb instead of Barkley and Will Hernandez. Draft Michah Parsons instead of trading down and taking a flyer on Toney who may never be healthy.
We waited all offseason for this?

Got so excited by the draft and the free agent signings, the judge-speak... and this is how it turns out. I really feel like if not for all the injuries we would be competing for a wildcard.

That we couldn’t lose Galladay and Barkley and that we had to have them on the field from the jump to establish rhythm and rapport in the offense. Of course they both miss the entire first half of the season. Because nyg. I also begged that the giants defense would hold the fort those first 2-3 weeks. No.

Same shit.
