They were up 12-0 at the half, but it just wasn’t to be. Still, a great run for Pleasantville!
Class D Tioga's
KarenP : 12/5/2021 7:10 am : link
win was a lot closer than the score indicates. It was 7-0 until near the end of the 3Q. Moriah actually scored to make it 7-7, but the TD was called back due to an illegal forward pass on a hook and ladder play. If the guy had just gone down instead of doing a forward lateral, they would have had a first down inside Tioga's 20.

It was fun for our home town to win. Big parade of fire trucks ushered the team bus back to the school for the last 5 miles.

Now back to watching the Giants...

Congrats to your hometown win!

Can the Giants hire the Tioga Head Coach? (:-)
Ha! Now there's
KarenP : 12/5/2021 8:12 am : link
an idea! I know he's had offers to move up to bigger schools, but so far he's stayed. I'm hoping he just can't leave "paradise"!
From what I read
GiantMike92 : 12/5/2021 8:38 am : link
Somers went for two on their last score and didn't convert.

Exactly! Bold all by their coach.

It was my one prediction that turned out wrong.

Carmel's season's record
ColHowPepper : 12/5/2021 10:04 am : link
(thanks, M.S.) is close to unbelievable. For those not that familiar with its Section 1 opponents before Sectionals and States, the list reads like a who's who of Powerhouse programs, Arlington, John Jay (though we say E. Fishkill not Hopewell J.), Suffern!! These are, e.g., as I pointed out last week re. Arlington, much bigger schools than Carmel.

One for the books. Congrats. Pity about Somers and P'ville. I was able to get some good looks on tape at its halfback that M.S. had identified, along with Del, and my sense was that he was slippery and very talented, but not this year the dominant type talent to change a game by himself. But he's only a soph and will presumably get bigger, stronger.
Lol.

One champion is my high school’s rival, and another is the districts I now live in’s rival.

For some perspective on Carmel season, the 2003 New Rochelle team won the State Championship, but the best AA NYS team I ever saw play was the 2004 New Rochelle team (with Ray Rice as a senior.) Here is their record, including their loss to Christian Brothers in the State Final (a game New Rochelle was up by I think 2 TDs until Ray Rice went out with a dislocated shoulder):

Roosevelt 34 6
North Rockland 35 7
White Plains 35 0
Mount Vernon 48 6
Lincoln 43 0
Saunders 42 0
Gorton 41 6
Mahopac 37 0
North Rockland 38 7
Mount Vernon 46 0
Monroe-Woodbury 41 0
Christian Brothers 35 41

I think the 2021 Carmel team is just as good, and maybe better!
Saw Carmel in person vs my daughter's school Clarkstown South
Stu11 : 12/5/2021 10:44 am : link
Funny I think it may have been the only time they were losing all year. South scored to go up 7-0. It didn't even last till a play from scrimmage as Carmel returned the ensuing kickoff for a TD lol.

I think Clarkstown South was a better team this season than its record would indicate. They lost a close one to Ketcham... had to play Carmel and Arlington... and then lost an O/T play-off game to New Rochelle.
2004 New Rochelle HS season

yeah, that list of opponents is classic too, White Plains and a host of Yonkers' teams, who can be dangerous! Had forgotten about Ray Rice's local roots. My daughter played a Sectionals (footie) vs Clarkstown South, long driveway into that sports factory. Fox Lane was undermanned. It was definitely undermanned this (American) https://twitter.com/DarrenDreger/status/1464978670892761089 season. I was at the track for some conditioning work before its game against Suffern and saw both teams warming up. I was laughing to myself because size of squad (Suffern seemingly twice as many), size of individuals, demeanors on faces, it looked like it would be no contest. I think it wound up 42 - 0, for the Visitors. So, for Carmel to whomp Suffern 31 - 7, craziness how good that team must be.

M.S., you've mentioned Carmel's line play both sides, any sense what they return for '22? Is it a seniors' dominated team?

Yeah they were a strange team. Seems like they played a lot better on the riad- beat North Rockland and Suffern and lost in OT to New Rochelle. Home they had no business losing to Ketcham. Mistakes galore in that game .

A while back, I took a quick look-see at their o-line. If memory serves me right, about half of their total team offensive lineman are not seniors. And “I think” maybe 2 of these juniors may have been starters. Not exactly sure though.
