I don’t know what this means for the Giants having dipped into future years, but hopefully gives the new GM a bit more flexibility. Link - ( New Window )
One of the few things having Mara around that helps
In 2022. That $208mm is actually below some of the estimates I’ve seen, so it doesn’t really qualify as news and certainly doesn’t add any breathing room to the Giants’ utterly f****** 2022 situation.
RE: RE: RE: They knew it would, which is why these moves were made.
Is it? They still only have $3 million in cap space next year for a roster that needs a ton of help. Who are they cutting?
They should have $93 million assuming Barkley and Jones are gone, but not counting adding two top 5 potential picks to the roster this year.
Barkley and Jones combined count for $15.5m against the 2022 cap. Not sure how cutting them would free up 90m.....
Bradberry is the most likely candidate for a cut (or extension). He is on the last year of his contract and the Giants can save $12m by cutting him alone. Martinez is another target since he is on his last year.

is coming back, he’s got his work cut out for him and who ever the next GM is too.
They can’t go into next year without making some possible hard cuts but many have high dead cap numbers. Shepard and Martinez come immediately to mind.
It’s why decisions may be needed on reset and pivot from Jones and Barkley sooner than some here want or believe.

That should say in 2023

They agreed to a 208 million ceiling in May with no floor. Even though it doesn't help the Giants much next year, going the full 2008 is a lot better than if they choose to not go all the way to the ceiling. Link - ( New Window )
The Giants have a complicated financial outlook over the next two years.
They have 29 UFAs next year, including 4 of the 5 starters on the offensive line. They’ll also presumably need to sign two top 10, and several top 100 draft picks.
The two most intriguing players are:
1) Is Bradberry ready to play ball and extend?
2) Will the Giants let Martinez play out his current deal?
The Giants will make some tough cuts and have to restructure money into future years to operate next year.

Off-season after this one should be a lot better for us though right?

Good news in an otherwise unremarkable season.

This organization has much bigger problems right now other than the cap. Hopefully they don't make long term commitments to DJ & SB.

Dixon being cut save $3 mill
