University of Arizona graduate has 1 carry this season despite Saquon missing games with injury.
Brightwell was also a kick returner in college but has not been used to return kicks for the Giants despite injuries to this unit as well.
I saw Brightwell on the kick coverage team last week. You can't tell me that they drafted this kid in the 6th round to cover kick returns.
What gives with Gary Brightwell? Is he in the coaches doghouse? Being protected for when Barkley leaves? A player the coaching staff never wanted but the front office drafted anyway?
Thought Judge didn't care about such things as where one was drafted... except look at Price and Solder.
I have no issues with using a 6th round pick on a guy like that BUT if we do, then we don't trade a pick for Crossen AND sign Ebner. Specials (outside of a filed goal kicker) isn't as important as they once were due to kickers getting a lot more touchbacks and most teams going for it more often on fourth down. Most teams don't have 3 players on their roster whose specialty is specials especially if none of them are returners.
That said, if you devote that many people to specials, they need to be lights out. Outside of Graham, ours have been underwhelming.
That's how Victor Cruz got on the field. There was no else left to play, every other WR was hurt. Most people consider Tom Coughlin a HOF coach and most people say the coaches see practice and they know who the best players are. Well Coughlin wanted to cut Cruz after 2011 training camp and Cruz was an All Pro in 2011 - not the Pro Bowl. All Pro. Cruz played 2011 at a HOF level. It's no exaggeration to say he was one of the top 5 players on a Super Bowl winning team. Maybe top 3 with Eli and JPp. Tom Coughlin saw him every day in practice and didn't even want him on his team, let alone in his starting line up.
This coaching staff is even worse. I want to like Joe Judge but sticking with Solder and Hernandez who are two of the worst OLs in the entire NFL and have no contracts for next year is NFL HC malpractice. If Judge is gone when this year ends so be it. There's no excuse for what he's doing with the OL.

Pretty sure Judge made the point of saying he was for specials. I agree you have to have players that have a position. Perhaps they hit on a OL with that pick. It is a trend and a alarming one with the later picks.

And 7th round picks are usually special teamers at best if they even make the team.
Not always true with running backs
Thats why i said USUALLY.
