The two Vikings DB’s stood in the end zone and neither made a play on the TD pass.

Taken time off the clock. And then kicked the FG. Rather than throw for the TD.
That was a hell of a comment there by the announcer.

Why they didn’t just eat the clock at the end and kick the fg is a head scratcher.

Now had they threw it and not scored - stopping the clock - that would have been the worst outcome.
But running it would have given the ball back to Detroit with about a minute, and only needing a FG to win.
Considering they're in a dome, you wouldn't have to drive very far to get an attempt for a kicker who I think made all his attempts today.
