the worst period of football in the history of the franchise

SoZKillA : 12/5/2021 6:15 pm
The Gettleman era will go down as the worst years of Giants football. Don’t give me no crap about the 1970s when receivers were still doing three point stances when they lined up. Or when guys had jobs in the offseason.

7 games this year under 20 points

6 of those games we scored 14 or LESS.

This is UNHEARD from a professional organization.
Total shit

I don't want to hear anyone crying about the 70s. In a league designed for maximum parity and OFFENSE, the ineptitude of this offense and franchise as a whole for years has been absolutely pathetic.
It is pathetic, and sad...

Get some excited, innovate, and un-indoctrinated blood in here as GM

Could it be the 70s/now are the true state of the Giants, and we just got lucky because LT and Eli came in to save the Giants?
lol. Yeah sure.

Reese destroyed this franchise. W help from Ross. Gettleman is just as bad but not mentioning Reese and Ross w DG show you an over reactive. This roster has been a mess even towards the end w The last SB win

And regardless of GM the real rot is at the top w ownership. And yes the late 60s early 70s we're worse
Yeah you guys

with the "Don't give me that 70's crap" sound like kids.

If you are not at least mid to late 50's, you don't have any idea what you are talking about. Reading statistics tell very little of the story.

Not trying to be critical but the fact is, you had to live through it and not as a 5 year old. Because we had never won a Super Bowl, there was this completely hopeless feeling. Make no mistake, we are fast approaching the 70's "feel". So I agree there but to say the current situation is much worse, just isn't true. At its worst, it is "beginning" to feel like the 70's.

In the decade of the 70's, we were 50-93-1. In the decade from 2012-2021 , so far we are 61-95.

You fail to mention how different the game was then.

The league is designed now for offenses to score… and we CAN’T.

The league is designed for quick turnarounds and we are about to be on our 3rd rebuild.

Yep. Way worse than the 70s.
73-77

2-11-1
2-12
5-9
3-11
5-9

I did not fail to mention anything.
redwhiteandbigblue : 12/5/2021 7:29 pm : link
The game has changed has nothing to do with the doomed feeling we all had in the 70's. With free agency as it is today, turnarounds are easier today than they were in the 70's. Like I said, if you did not live through it and base your opinions on what you read or statistics, you cannot appreciate what many felt back then. I sat at those games at Yankee Stadium, Yale Bowl and Shea Stadium (not proud of it).

Not looking to get into a back and forth with anyone just telling you what most people I knew as giants fans felt. As with any subject there are always those who disagree. So be it.
Unless you were around 1964-1980
BigBlueNH : 12/5/2021 10:00 pm : link
you have no basis for comparison. In the last 14 years, the Giants have made the playoffs 4 times and won 2 SBs. When I was a 20-year-old in 1980, the team had NEVER made the playoffs once in my conscious lifetime, and had years in which they won 2, 1, 4, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, and 3 games.

There is no comparison. Yet.

I do. An eagle Super Bowl is way worse than your days. End of story.

'17-'21...

3-13
5-11
4-12
6-10
4-8 (so far)

22-54 at this point from '17-'21. (0.289 win percentage)

Looks like we were 15-41 from'73-'77? (0.268 win percentage)

Depending on how Judge closes the season we could very well fall below that 0.268 mark.
Sorry I did the math wrong on the 70s record
Leg of Theismann : 12/5/2021 10:10 pm : link
not sure what I was looking at.

2-11-1
2-12
5-9
3-11
5-9

17-52-1 from '73-'77. (0.246 win%)

So yeah I guess that period was probably technically close but we're gonna come close to the worst 5 year period in the history of this almost ~100 yr franchise.

I think reason I got it wrong at first
Leg of Theismann : 12/5/2021 10:11 pm : link
was because the 1973 record was covered from my view when I was typing my message so I only saw the latter 4 years of that window.

There may be something to that. If Pete Rozelle didn't rescue the franchise, there's no George Young, there's no Ernie Accorsi, and there's a decent chance there's no Super Bowls and we'd be the fucking Lions.
It’s real bad
