with one of our 1st rounders?
I watched a few clips of him and came away very impressed. Looks accurate, stronger arm than jones, and seems able to throw on the run and improvise when the pocket breaks down.
Jones has talent, and seems like he can be solid if in the right offense, but his injuries and inability to quickly progress through his reads, or improvise with his legs, doesn't make me think he can be anything more than a middle-to bottom tier QB.
We can then trade Jones for maybe a 2nd rounder and build our depth at OL and ED with our other top 100 draft picks. Which if Jones were traded includes 5 picks.
Why did it take so long for the light to go on?
And what's with the glove on his throwing hand?
But I've see enough that I could live with the investment because I think he shows considerably more skills than Jones.
I feel the same way right now about Ridder, too.
That said, I look at a Pickett as a 2nd round talent. Not overwhelmingly big or athletic with a decent arm. Will be a 24 year old rookie with only 1 year of production in his age 23 breakout season. So seems to have a lowish ceiling.
But, he’d be an upgrade. Just don’t see him being a home run pick so we may find ourselves in this same position in 3 years.
You are underestimating Ridder. He's going to be a riser.

Tend to agree from what I've seen, although I think his arm is above average. He won't last until the second round so it's probably moot. I definitely wouldn't consider him with a top 10 pick.
Remind me when Weinke went:
42/7, 67%, 8.7 YPA and 4K+.
And Weinke played for a very talented FSU team. Anquan Boldin, Travis Minor, Javon Walker, Peter Warrick, etc.
I also think it's time to talk about Ridder a bit more. Leading Cincinnati undefeated to the playoffs is a big deal.

Agreed re: Ridder. He's going to rise and very likely go much, much higher.
He's had a great year. He has excellent physical attributes as well.
Drafting skill players and leaving the lines for later hasn't worked out.
Doing the same thing again and again expecting a different result......
Some rumors Steelers are taking hard look at Pickett given locale and may make a move for him.
Sign a competent vet to compete with Jones, see what happens in 2022 and if we are still down on our QB situation when the 2023 draft comes along, there should be more QBs available and hopefully we'll be 1 year closer to putting a competent OL in front of him.

Makes sense for the Steelers to give a long look to Pickett.
Ridder has had a nice progression at Cincy over four years. He's gone form decent to pretty good to good to great.
Not it's not. It's better.
Agreed. I don’t see it with Pickett, he looks like an NFL backup.
At very worst, you need a developmental guy. You know Jones is going to get injured at some point every season. He’s proven that. Have someone behind him ready.
I like Pickett, but not in the top 10. And he’ll be long gone in the 2nd.
Guys like Grayson McCall, Bailey Zappe, Sam Hartman, Kedin Slovis, Brock Purdy and Phil Jurkovec are guys we should target in the mid rounds.
The real issue is that I have no faith at all in our scouting department to be able to identify talent.
Why did it take so long for the light to go on?
He’s on tv every Saturday along with the Iowa football team.
Not exactly a trade secret. Yea I’d be thrilled to have him here. You’re dreaming if you think your getting any more than a 6 for Jones

I have no idea what you are talking about.
We can get our QB then
I believe Haener is entering the transfer portal looking for another year.
He was a thrill to watch this year. A battler.
He's a redshirt senior, 4 year starter, who wasn't good before this year. He takes too long to process and he locks onto his reads. He gives some real Daniel Jones vibes.
Look at Taylor effing Heinekie. I’m not even saying he’s above average. But he’s average and managing the team well. Almost no investment for a guy that’s outperforming the number 6 pick we invested in 2019.
I’d use our premium picks on premium talent. Not force a QB pick just because we need one.
He makes quick decisions
Can sense the rush
Has impressive suddenness in the pocket to allude the rush
Can improvise on the move
Keeps eyes downfield while moving
Stands calm in the pocket
Has twitchiness / shiftiness for a qb, even if not top end speed
Parcels always liked guys with a lot of starting experience and Pickett has started 50+ games.
If they say it takes a NFL QB a few years to figure it out, I’d like to think that all the playing time at the collegiate level is a positive for him too.
100% It doesn't matter who is throwing the ball behind this oline. Until it is fixed we will suck.
