Would anyone be against Kenny Pickett

CMicks3110 : 12/5/2021 7:06 pm
with one of our 1st rounders?

I watched a few clips of him and came away very impressed. Looks accurate, stronger arm than jones, and seems able to throw on the run and improvise when the pocket breaks down.

Jones has talent, and seems like he can be solid if in the right offense, but his injuries and inability to quickly progress through his reads, or improvise with his legs, doesn't make me think he can be anything more than a middle-to bottom tier QB.

We can then trade Jones for maybe a 2nd rounder and build our depth at OL and ED with our other top 100 draft picks. Which if Jones were traded includes 5 picks.

I've been touting Picket for a while...

There are legit concerns:

Why did it take so long for the light to go on?

And what's with the glove on his throwing hand?

But I've see enough that I could live with the investment because I think he shows considerably more skills than Jones.

I feel the same way right now about Ridder, too.
I'd be thrilled with him

on Day 3. The first 2 days have to be OL, Egde and ILB
You aren’t getting a second round pick for Jones
Mike from Ohio : 12/5/2021 7:12 pm : link
Anyone acquiring him is doing so as a placeholder, competition, or backup.
He’s the best QB
Breeze_94 : 12/5/2021 7:13 pm : link
In the class by far, IMO. I’m not high on Corral bc he is a one read guy who tucks and runs if his first read isn’t there.

That said, I look at a Pickett as a 2nd round talent. Not overwhelmingly big or athletic with a decent arm. Will be a 24 year old rookie with only 1 year of production in his age 23 breakout season. So seems to have a lowish ceiling.

But, he’d be an upgrade. Just don’t see him being a home run pick so we may find ourselves in this same position in 3 years.
I liked his highlights as well, but this has been his most productive
Simms11 : 12/5/2021 7:13 pm : link
year. Did the lights finally come on? He is very athletic and elusive. Seems like a guy that could avoid a rush and not get flustered and throws well on the run too. I’m sure the Giants will do their due diligence on all QBs coming out. I’d like to hear what Sy56 thinks of him.
Not with one of the first rounders
jeff57 : 12/5/2021 7:14 pm : link
He’s not a top 10 pick. No QB in the draft is,

You are underestimating Ridder. He's going to be a riser.
No

Effen way!! Haven’t we learned anything!! I don’t care if hes Joe Montana no QB will help us at this point. Wise up people!!!
I was a big fan of his

Yes
Giants73 : 12/5/2021 7:15 pm : link
Not very good, anti clutch, weinke part 2
I wish there were great QB’s in this draft
Jay on the Island : 12/5/2021 7:18 pm : link
But there just aren’t. The Giants need to address the OL and pass rush first.
I want OL/DL in the 1st
PatersonPlank : 12/5/2021 7:18 pm : link
if one of Pickett/Corral/Ridder/Howell is there in the 2nd I'd take him.

Tend to agree from what I've seen, although I think his arm is above average. He won't last until the second round so it's probably moot. I definitely wouldn't consider him with a top 10 pick.

Remind me when Weinke went:

42/7, 67%, 8.7 YPA and 4K+.

And Weinke played for a very talented FSU team. Anquan Boldin, Travis Minor, Javon Walker, Peter Warrick, etc.
I like Corral
Go Terps : 12/5/2021 7:21 pm : link
As a second day pick I like Malik Cunningham.

I also think it's time to talk about Ridder a bit more. Leading Cincinnati undefeated to the playoffs is a big deal.

Agreed re: Ridder. He's going to rise and very likely go much, much higher.

He's had a great year. He has excellent physical attributes as well.
Maybe, for a change, try building the trenches first
Hammer : 12/5/2021 7:25 pm : link
and skill players second.

Drafting skill players and leaving the lines for later hasn't worked out.

Doing the same thing again and again expecting a different result......
i want game changing big men
markky : 12/5/2021 7:26 pm : link
and players that can rush the passer. we need to build a football team.
I’m a big fan of Ridder too
Sammo85 : 12/5/2021 7:27 pm : link
I think he has a lot of solid parts to his game and mental makeup playing for Fickell and his coaching style that translate to NFL.

Some rumors Steelers are taking hard look at Pickett given locale and may make a move for him.
None of the QBs are worth a top 10 pick.
BigBlueNH : 12/5/2021 7:28 pm : link
I don't see any of these guys as franchise QBs. 1 of the 3 or 4 might, but I'll be damned if I can guess which one. And until we fix our OL, it just isn't worth throwing another youngster out there to be ruined.

Sign a competent vet to compete with Jones, see what happens in 2022 and if we are still down on our QB situation when the 2023 draft comes along, there should be more QBs available and hopefully we'll be 1 year closer to putting a competent OL in front of him.

Makes sense for the Steelers to give a long look to Pickett.

Ridder has had a nice progression at Cincy over four years. He's gone form decent to pretty good to good to great.
if people think Jones
ryanmkeane : 12/5/2021 7:38 pm : link
doesn’t have a great arm, Pickett’s arm strength is measurably worse

Agreed. I don’t see it with Pickett, he looks like an NFL backup.
Man, the starving will eat garbage.
Jim in Forest Hills : 12/5/2021 7:42 pm : link
Pickett, holy crap.
I absolutely think they should draft a quarterback at some point.
Vin_Cuccs : 12/5/2021 7:46 pm : link
But learn from the mistakes…the lines and the pass rush first.

At very worst, you need a developmental guy. You know Jones is going to get injured at some point every season. He’s proven that. Have someone behind him ready.

I like Pickett, but not in the top 10. And he’ll be long gone in the 2nd.

Guys like Grayson McCall, Bailey Zappe, Sam Hartman, Kedin Slovis, Brock Purdy and Phil Jurkovec are guys we should target in the mid rounds.

The real issue is that I have no faith at all in our scouting department to be able to identify talent.

Not a fan of Pickett
Mike in NY : 12/5/2021 7:50 pm : link
Think his upside is too limited. Trading up until latter part of Round 1 to take Ridder and let him sit behind a vet interests me more. Also, will want to check out Quick Lane Bowl as it has 2 QB’s worth watching (Strong and Eleby)

He’s on tv every Saturday along with the Iowa football team.

Not exactly a trade secret. Yea I’d be thrilled to have him here. You’re dreaming if you think your getting any more than a 6 for Jones
Give me an OL and a DL with our top two firsts
Metnut : 12/5/2021 7:57 pm : link
and use one of our extra 3rds to trade back into the bottom of the first to draft him.

And with Jones at QB in 2022 we will have a top 10 pick in 2023 anyway.

We can get our QB then

I believe Haener is entering the transfer portal looking for another year.

He was a thrill to watch this year. A battler.
I have no idea what

the new GM and HC will want, but hopefully they fix the line first and get an ER and ILB.
Bust
AdamBrag : 12/5/2021 8:33 pm : link
Pickett really feels like a bust in the NFL.

He's a redshirt senior, 4 year starter, who wasn't good before this year. He takes too long to process and he locks onto his reads. He gives some real Daniel Jones vibes.
No Way!
youngd1974 : 12/5/2021 8:45 pm : link
Fix the trenches first. OL and Edge or DL in the first round.
I feel like this is one of those drafts for QB where you see if one of
bradshaw44 : 12/5/2021 8:52 pm : link
The best QBs drops into a later round and you take a flyer on that guy. There is always the chance they turn out good.

Look at Taylor effing Heinekie. I’m not even saying he’s above average. But he’s average and managing the team well. Almost no investment for a guy that’s outperforming the number 6 pick we invested in 2019.

I’d use our premium picks on premium talent. Not force a QB pick just because we need one.
Not bullish on Pickett
Greg from LI : 12/5/2021 9:42 pm : link
Always wary of guys who were mediocre for three years and then have a monster year SD a redshirt senior.
I like Pickett, but not enough to pick him
Matt M. : 12/5/2021 9:59 pm : link
I'd rather spend all our 1st and 2nd round picks on OL and pass rush.
Just watched a bunch of Corral and Pickett
GiantTuff1 : 12/5/2021 10:25 pm : link
And came away more impressed by Pickett.

He makes quick decisions
Can sense the rush
Has impressive suddenness in the pocket to allude the rush
Can improvise on the move
Keeps eyes downfield while moving
Stands calm in the pocket
Has twitchiness / shiftiness for a qb, even if not top end speed

Parcels always liked guys with a lot of starting experience and Pickett has started 50+ games.

If they say it takes a NFL QB a few years to figure it out, I’d like to think that all the playing time at the collegiate level is a positive for him too.
Like Ridder in the second round
Rick in Dallas : 12/5/2021 10:38 pm : link
I will lose my shit if they reach in the top 10 picks for a QB. Not a fan of Corral or Willis. I would consider Pickett in a trade down in the 20’s.

100% It doesn't matter who is throwing the ball behind this oline. Until it is fixed we will suck.
