For an attention to detail guy, you would think that with the following conditions:
- a terrible punter
- a defense that by the design is supposed to give up yards
- an offense that really struggles to move the ball
Judge would be a bit more aggressive near midfield about keeping drives alive. The Giants are 24th in the league in offensive yards/drive and 23rd in the league in defensive yards/drive.
Judge is trying to play a field position game like he has a top 5 defense in yards given up.
This has led the Giants to an average starting field position of their own 26 yard line which is 26th in the league. Perfect for a team in the bottom 10 of average yards per drive. On the flip side, due to Judge's conservative nature, our defense is only 18th in the league in starting field position!
I keep waiting for a fake punt that is never going to happen,
We have trouble sustaining drives and even moving the ball in some games. While it’s frustrating to see the punting team come on in those situations, I have more faith in the D holding the opponent, forcing a punt and us getting the ball back in decent field position to start another drive, than I do in us converting the 4th down.
It happened yesterday and led to the Giants first score. Unfortunately the inept O as usual couldn’t score a TD in the red zone and got only a FG out of it.
Did Mara really want him or was it the best option to sell the fan base at the time?
Did Belicheck really think that highly of him or was that a con job too?
How is Danny Shelton on the roster? What is JJ's affinity for Nate Ebner? Roster construction and choices are as questionable as DG's picks and FA's.
What is this film you are going to go back and watch and when will you come back with all of those answers you promised after watching said film?
Sorry, just venting.
It seems clear we whiffed on the hire. Let’s not waste another year with this buffoonery.
The NFL is about outscheming other teams. It really is that simple. The good teams do it; the bad teams do not do it. Even if you look at Miami yesterday, no great team in and of itself, they had an identity on offense. It was an efficient dink and dunk system that they tailored to the talents of their players. We look lost on offense whether it is DJ at Qb or Mike Glennon.
Judge is an all talk guy who conned his way into a job and 20 million bucks. He never had easier marks than blowhard Dave Gettleman and John Mara.
If this team has a coin flips chance in the 4th quarter, that's more than you can expect out of this team IMO.
The fact he fired the arranged marriage OC, and Kitchens was taking shots down field, throwing past the sticks on 3rd downs, and he mentioned "aggressive" about 40 times in recent press conferences... I tend to think it is less about what he wants than what he feels he has to do in order to see any success.

This is such utter nonsense. Yesterday, we are down 10-6, have the ball at the 42 yard line on 4th and 2. We are just out of Gano FG range. So, basically, we are two yards away from points. Instead, genius Judge, punts the ball, with a terrible punter and it goes for a touchback, which is always going to be a tough get with any punter. So, first the strategy is all wrong. When points are hard to come by and you are basically two yards away from points, you go. Second, at best you get 40 yards of field position and at worst, you get 20 (which is what happened). The decision literally made no sense. At some point, you are going to need points and when you are knocking on the doorstep you take that chance.

In one of his first few press conferences, didn't get say he wanted his team to be adaptable/multiple to fit his opponents scheme? He needs to take a lesson out of his own play book and realize he needs to adapt to the sad reality of the offensive production and be more aggressive. That's the only opportunity to win.
The theory that the only thing that matters on D is how many points you let up is supported by a lot of great football minds… BB being one of them. However, I’m not so convinced that giving up lots of yardage and time of possession is acceptable as long as total points scored is low. Part of the reason I feel our offense struggles is the lack of continuity (sitting around for 15-20 minutes between drives), and obviously bad field position is a killer for a struggling offense.
I haven’t done any advanced analytics to support my argument, but I am not convinced that points are the only thing that matters on D.

We average 30.59 yards/drive on offense (24th) and give up 35.06 yds/drive on defense (23rd). So we are basically yielding field position the entire game.
This would explain why our average starting field position on offense is 26th in the league.
We are yielding 2.16 defensive points per drive and only scoring 1.71 points per offensive drive. I don't think you can ask much more from the D, so the only solution is to be more aggresive on offense.
I'm with you, Essex. These are the exact kind of mistakes you get when you hire an inexperienced coach.
Shame on Mara and Gettleman for allowing this guy to convince them to hand him the reins.
