Staley is like a direct rebuttal of Joe Judge...

Giantfan in skinland : 12/6/2021 9:52 am
He's not a perfect coach either....but man I'm jealous when I hear thinking like this:

Quote:
Staley: “We went into the season with aggressive modeling, and our modeling for this situation was ‘go’ all the way.” He said the Chargers’ analytics team of Aditya Krishnan and Alex Stearns and offensive assistant/game management Dan Shamash helped create the aggressive strategic stance. Also: The Browns had just driven 75 yards in five plays to score and take a 14-point lead, and Staley wanted defenders to get a breather and gather their thoughts on how to stop the Browns.

Quote:
Staley: “What I’ve learned and come to accept and embrace is, I don’t care how we lose, or the optics of it. Being ‘conservative’ just preserves stats and lets you feel that you’re closer than you really are. My mindset is to do everything we can to win the game on our terms, not someone else’s. And if it doesn’t happen, I’m good with that.”

Is great when your winning. Much harder to maintain when you suck.
Yep

Smart vs. Dumb. Our organization top to bottom is on the wrong side of that matchup.
Agree with OP

Would love to have a Staley here.
and if the two quotes were swapped

would the reactions to them swap too? Nope.

They got their QB and good for them. Can you imagine how bad they'd be without Herbert? Probably right around where we are.

That's fine if that's the way you see it - I see it this way. If we were winning whatever Judge says along with it would sound like great communication.
I read that too, it sure makes me wonder what the Giants are doing

It's very hard for most/any? of us to have any idea what goes on at 1925 Giants Way behind the scenes. There are so many cooks, it's so dysfunctional, that much we do know.

In my experience businesses in the kind of spiral the Giants are in go into a bunker mode and dig in deeper to their "our way". But I've never been involved with a business owned by 32 billionaires and one family of millionaires divided equally with 32 shares operating in a socialist sport system designed to create parity among the 32 shares. The only penalty to NFL owners for losing and having a terrible team is public shame. Their financial reward is not tied to wins and loses. Maybe in some cities attendance will be down so game day receipts might be less but the Giants don't have that problem since they raped/blackmailed the fan base for PSLs.

I've heard rumors - completely unsubstantiated and I'm no asshat - that Judge is safe no matter what happens the next 5 games. It's not hard to believe that based on the history of the Giants. Hopefully if that's true they get Judge someone who can help him self scout because next year will be his last if this continues no matter how much John Mara tries to protect him.

it's pretty clear whats likely going to happen.. mara will want to retain judge, not because he's shown he's up to the task (i'd argue he's shown the opposite), but because he gave him a 5-year contract and is also still paying shurmur. mara knows gettleman needs to go to placate the fans, but no real GM worth their salt would take the job with a mandate from the owner that he keep the current losing coach (and quarterback.. and tom quinn??), so mara will be forced to make the inert pile of clay kevin abrams the new GM. the giants will be cap-strapped with a bunch of highly paid injury-prone players, will make questionable selections in the draft, continue to lose, and be worse in judge's third year than his second.

can scarcely envision a scenario where this exact thing does not happen.

One thing that bothered me about judge

Was after the Eagles game he was going on and on about the team, the coaching, etc. he was very lucky to come away with a win despite his game management and putrid performance. Both lines were dominated. He acted like he was too cool for school. Just went on and on - to me felt like “see I can coach I know what I’m doing.”

Really not sold on the entire team including the coach

I think Judge is safe too. The new GM will give him a prove it year to see if he's the right guy. I think they might do that with Jones too. Plus Mara doesn't want to fire another coach after 2 years
Folks harping on talent level as a justification are missing the point
Giantfan in skinland : 12/6/2021 11:06 am : link
It's a structural difference in approach. Staley and the Chargers have built in an aggressive and analytical approach to in game decision-making. They have checked ego and "gut" at the door.

Judge has repeatedly shown himself to be a poor in-game manager and on top of that....mind numbingly conservative (except for when he has over corrected and been hyper aggressive largely in the wrong spots).

I'm not even talking about the product on the field....this is just about base philosophies to coaching and decision-making. Our coach (and whole organization) speaks 1995 football.

See, it is that and yesterday's comments where I think behind the scenes he has painted a picture of we have shitty talent and we are working with the groceries that DG bought. You say nice things afterwards-build up your staff, talk about plays your completely overmatched players did (again, a credit to coaching and to keeping the team together) and keep acting like you are doing what you can with your severely limited roster.

I think JG was fall number one in the power struggle and now DG will be number 2. Right or wrong (in terms of Judge), I think JJ has won over ownership. The question will be is JJ going to help pick the new GM? I still think Scott Pioli will be in play here.
