Despite only scoring 9 points and gaining 250 yards in losing the final game of its 12 game preseason, head coach Jone Judge saw a lot of positives to build on once the games actually count:
There was a lot of things that I saw today in the way we played, a lot of things that are moving in the right direction, a lot of things I'm very pleased with in terms of how we competed. And we were able to make some stops at critical moments, able to make some good decisions. A lot of guys stepped up in different situations. |
Regarding pass protection (3 sacks, 8 QB hits):
There's a lot of things moving in the right direction as far as that. I think our pass protection as a whole, although there are some plays obviously we've got to look at and keep on improving on, but I'm encouraged by some of the things we're seeing out there in terms of how that group is progressing. |
Regarding the offense in the second half (2 FGs, a missed FG and three 3 and outs, including one that started on the Giants 46):
I thought the offensive staff did a good job making adjustments on the second half. Getting some things off the boot, getting the ball started out there on the flat, take advantage of these guys loading the box and packing it. |
Regarding the Giants passing the ball down field (in which the Giants averaged 3.4 yards per pass) and converting 3rd downs (6 for 16):
I saw a lot of players make a lot of big plays. That's what we've got to do. We've got to get the ball in our players' hands, let them make plays, let them extend plays and be explosive players. And that's our focus as a team. So that's what we're looking to do. We're going to play to the players, play to their strengths. Saw a lot of things today that really got the players involved. There were a lot of third and longs that we converted. We had a lot of players making big plays. |
So there you have it. Even though the Giants have a miserable record in this extended preseaon, it's really no cause for concern. Coach Judge is focused on getting his team ready for for the five game regular season. Right now it's enough to ignore the negatives and see that players are improving and things are moving in the right direction.
I know there is a balancing act they have to maintain, but at the same time… isn’t this the infamous “New York Media”?
If he came out and said every player here fucking sucks it would do nothing but bring more embarrassment to the franchise and likely lead to his own demise.
it's lip service. Judge is more than ready to bench players or fire coaches. What could he possibly say in these things that helps the cause? Nothing. Bill Belichick hasn't said one real thing in 20 years now.
Not going for it on 4th and 2 was really bad and would've helped possibly save the game if they had went and converted.
Mara: Agree completely, Joe. If we hadn't had those injuries, I think we win the division and are possibly in the Superbowl. Toney was completely unstoppable when healthy. Barkley will be his old self when healthy, and the Oline was solid until they weren't healthy? The defense? The only time you could score on them was a 2 minute window in each half.
Judge: Glad we see this the same, Mr. Mara. Now if you excuse me I have to go pick up Nate Ebner's kids from school.
Mara: OK, I need to find my post-season press conference speech from last year and roll the dates forward. Hey, don't take it personally when I tell everyone I am disappointed. I'm not. This team is really looking good!
This week "Gee,we're doing our best guys"
Clean house is the only viable option, that and getitng the front office out of the way also
If those comments are genuine after game thoughts then we are in worse shape then I thought.
Ha, I meant that those are the types of comments you'd see from a coach after a preseason game. Not after the 12th game of the season.
"I saw some good things"
"There's improvement"
"We are headed in the right direction"
Give me a freakin break. As Carl Banks said on WFAN, maybe don't say anything instead of that. Improvement means winning games.

Do you mean 12 quarters over 3 games?

Whoops, sorry sb. My bad.
That should have been more apparent to me...this continuous losing is leaving me in a fog.
