I don't think this is necessarily indicative of anything other than him not having the same interest in watching the game as he did playing it.
Nope. In fact, a lot of athletes active and retired have made similar comments. And I get it completely, you already dedicated your life to playing it, watching probably does nothing for these guys and is effectively a waste of their time.
is correct in my experience. It's one of the many reasons he was so awful as an announcer. He has never liked watching football or any sport only playing it. The reason he was a one of kind football player is because he's a one of kind person. It served him great on the field, not well off it.
LT played football because he was a crazy adrenaline junkie
....and part of why he was the greatest was that he had zero regard for his own well being. Watching football doesn't give him a rush, so he barely watches.
I can remember a story years ago about how Jeter and A-Rod went from close friends to adversaries, and one of the points made was that A-Rod was a total baseball fiend who was utterly obsessed with the game. For Jeter, on the other hand, it was just a job. When he wasn't playing, he didn't watch games. A-Rod stayed at his house once and couldn't believe that Jeter didn't have the MLB package to watch all the games.

So, two reasons he's enshrined in legendary status.
