He just brings a certain energy to the team when he;s out there, the way he attacks the basket and moves up and down the court. No reason why he and Randle cant be on the court at the same time. Go with the smaller lineup more often
hardly qualifies as a small ball lineup by today’s NBA standards - it’s only small ball by Thibs’ standards. I bet every other coach in the league would look at the bigs on this roster and start Obi/Randle without hesitation.
If the Knicks don't get a lot better pretty soon...
1) More Toppin, less Randle;
2) More Quickley;
3) More "small ball" with Randle AND Toppin;
4) At least a little more time for Grimes;
5) Bringing up Samanic and McBride, who both playing top-5 in the entire G-League. Samanic is averaging 28.1 and has had 5 games in a row of 25 or better. (Bye bye Knox). McBride can do EVERYTHING, from defend to pass to penetrate to shoot the 3 to rebound.
And without Grimes playing some 2, they are missing a key 3-and-d player.

Yup and imagine the open space Randle and Obi would have on rolls or Rj driving to the basket..
won't EVER happen unless he stays awful for weeks. Quite simply, the Knicks cannot be a near-challenger unless he is effective both as a shooter/scorer and on defense. The evidence from last year that he can do that is too strong to pull the experiment any time in the near future.
I could see his minutes down a bit this way, though:
--Fewer mpg, particularly in games where his shooting stays bad;
--Fournier sliding from the 2 to the 3 for part of his pt;
--Grimes getting time at the 2.

I agree he can become a damn good player on a competitor, and I absolutely love his attitude and determination. I'm slightly less sanguine on his potential than you, but I hope you're right and I'm wrong.
Yup, living pretty much full time in northern Dutchess County now. Although we still have our house in Brooklyn which we're trying to figure out how to sell. But for a good steak and perhaps a Knicks game I'd come back to the city!
with Schmeelk and Katz, the new Athletic writer, they said that the reason that everyone loves Obi, even if they don't know it is because he moves all the time. When he has the ball he's moving, when he doesn't he's screening, running off ball etc.
I think that resonated with me because the young guys do play with more energy, but more than anything it's because there's motion in the offense outside of ball movement. First team moves the ball, but no one is setting up plays away from ball rotation.

you combine his work rate with his length, athleticism, and ability to finish at the rim - and he puts a LOT of stress on opposing defenses.

Thibs said he’s still mulling changes - Noel was wearing starters colors at shoot and Mitch sounds like he’s ready for bench role.

The problem isnt always with 1 guy just dribbiling in iso, the other 4 guys have to move, if they just stand around there is nowhere for the guy to do..
Why teams iso is to attract double teams and hit the cutter or open man, if no one moves the offense looks more and more stagnant..
Randle is playing like crap dont get me wrong, but no one moves in the starting lineup and then you got a big who does nothing offensively and it becomes stagnant
"I could be pissed, but at the end of the day there are some young guys here who look up to me. Maybe I can be a role model. I love being around my teammates and I'm going to cheer them on until I can't anymore."

Sources: The Indiana Pacers are moving toward rebuild, receptive to trade talks centered on Caris LeVert and either Domantas Sabonis or Myles Turner.
12.6pts/7.5rbs/3blks this season - 52% from the field, 39.5% from three. Gives Thibs his precious rim protector at the five, but can actually be a threat on offense.
Turner is interesting but curious what his market would be. Would Indiana do something like Noel, Knox, and the CHA first we have? I really don't have a sense of his market. I do know that I think he would be incrementally helpful but I would not really trade much beyond one mid tier asset for him.

I'd say Mitch and some picks would be a starting point.
of the vets the Pacers are looking to unload. You'd have to sign them all after next season, but they're all in their prime. Due to a bunch of factors, I don't think the universe of teams that would be pursuing them will be that large.
might be the most overated player in the league. He will have a huge game and then disappear for about 5 games. Guy should be a double-double every game. Not the case
But it might be the frustration talking sign me up.
Let's go all in on him, RJ, Toppin, Quickley, and Kemba plus the 1st we have been saving for this day.

Turner is not going to carry your team offensively but he can anchor a defense and not be a complete zero on offense, you have to account for him offensively..

I love Dame but im leaning toward waiting, i think Fox will become available sooner rather than later
Really hard to find a good fit. Is Dame too old? That extension sounds like it will age terribly. I like Fox but his shooting regression really scares me - can he even be a league average 3 point shooter? He has never been a particularly good FT shooter either so I would lean towards no.
Whoever trades for him should have their heads examined.
I need my head examined then... He is 31 years old with zero injury history. Plus he is an all-out competitor and a hard worker.
He takes the Knicks to another level and NY would love him.
He's the prize of those who have been intimated at. RJ++++++ I'd do.
I'm with Larry though. I've been RJ's biggest defender, but he shit the bed this year. It might be time to move on. If I'm trading RJ I want SGA though. Don't care what else it takes really.
Barrett, Quickley, Obi, + other players and multiple picks. Our you ready to start the rebuild again? If that’s the case go with SGA cause it will be awhile before we are good.
it depends on whats left and how the roster is filled out around him and Randle..
For example if Its Rj, Obi, Noel and cqp filler plus a bunch of 1sts for Dame..
Then Knicks flip Mitch, Knox, Kemba a couple of 2nds for Turner..
So you have Dame, Burks, Fournier, Randle, Turner..
bench: Rose, Quick, Grimes and Gibson of the bench..
At this point, more than a quarter through the season this team looks like a .500 team.
If Dame or SGA is attainable you go all in. I mean this is why we have all the young talent and picks right? No one is untouchable and we have plenty left in most cases to have a strong team.
but it’s hard to justify all three of RJ/IQ/Obi plus picks - he’s a star but not a superstar. Might as well let Walt Perrin try to find a guy like him in the middle of the first round.
RE: SGA is one of my favorite players in the league

I agree. I don't know that I could do all three of the kids in a deal. Add in the picks and it becomes even harder to justify.
it felt like Dame wants his extension and to be traded..
It was weird, but then there is a paragraph where he wants all the vets traded...
I thought it was weird too. And then I read an article on The Athletic hinting that CJ-per his own words-wanted out of Portland. I don't know what's going on up in the Pacific Northwest. The Blazers are a mess right now.

that when Clyde was playing and winning titles the Knicks were renting places to practice? Like does that mean they were like renting the YMCA out for a few hours at a time to practice or something? lol
We need to take the Knicks logo off center court at MSG
feels like he's a freakin 70% 3 point shooter this year. I know he's not but seriously when I see him pull up from behind the arc I just expect it to go in at this point.
as in why he isn't at least coming off the bench for even just SOME minutes? It's weird to me that he went from starting to just zero minutes. I was all for benching him for Burks but I just don't see why you wouldn't put him out there against the other teams bench just to get some buckets.
Do you think Thibs is literally just like "nope, can't play good enough defense to deserve to be on the floor." Is it that simple?
Do you think this is punishment for anything that maybe Thibs and the team are keeping under wraps?
Is there something we don't know about his health that they don't want to showcase because they want to be able to move him in a coming trade they are planning?
I'm down for any and all conspiracy theories you guys can come up with lol
Am I overthinking this?
btw I wasn't able to watch every minute of the game tonight
one question: did it look like we had good energy/intensity for all 48 minutes tonight? Any short stretches of lapse in energy like we typically have (even in wins)?
I've been curious to see how the team would respond after the 3 game losing streak because A LOT of people have specifically been calling out the Knicks for their lack of energy and lazy defense. Was hoping certain guys heard that.

was not the 3s, not the 11 for 20, it was thr passes he made when the defense collapsed, he hit shooterd for a few wide open 3s..That is the part of Rjs game that i want to see evolve..
My issue with Rj will always be when he forces, if he misses a good shot, i have no problems, its bad shots i dont like
mentioned that the +/- with Kemba on the floor is historically bad. Like over -100 bad. Even if it's not a great stat, that sort of thing is hard to ignore.

I am worried that Randall's 2020 may have been a one-time event, in which case the entire strategy for moving up in the future changes.
I think that resonated with me because the young guys do play with more energy, but more than anything it's because there's motion in the offense outside of ball movement. First team moves the ball, but no one is setting up plays away from ball rotation.
The bench would still have Rose, Fournier, Grimes and Mitch
so fricken stupid, what is the difference between and Noel and Mitch? how does that help anything?
How does that help to add speed to the starters? Noel is on the ground after every possession, he cant even jump right now..
This is moronic, the constant need to have a shot blocker is killing them, Mitch and Noel are doing nothing and offensively they just clog the lane..
I think that resonated with me because the young guys do play with more energy, but more than anything it's because there's motion in the offense outside of ball movement. First team moves the ball, but no one is setting up plays away from ball rotation.

someone posted the ratings and apparently the team is better with Noel on the court..i dont know.
Spurs want to drive to the hoop, extremely small off the bench..

He really has. Thank god for Mitch tonight.
He lost weight and looks like a new man. 7 offensive boards. Almost a double double already
Randle and Fournier haven't done anything yet.
jjst like 12 point lead down to 5
stop going right at poetle please
Yeah that's really careless. In You could end a guy's season on a play like that.
I want to say these are growing pains for RJ. But idk. He looks sloppy too often when he's forced to make a play.
Knicks dont have the most athletic players on their team, a lot of them are slow and methodical, not many lobs on fast breaks
2nd half needed some of his scoring amd he took over, took what the d gave him..
Great pass to Rj on that play
