MNF: Pats at Bills.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 12/6/2021 8:10 pm
1st place in the AFC East on the line. Weather should be a factor; winds up to 30 MPH. That usually favors the better running team, which is the Pats.

Good MNF game.

Stop, my god.. Yes it did happen because the bills had an injured player and no timeouts. The clock is stopped for player to get off the field then clock gets set to time it was at when the player was injured and play clock reset to 40 seconds. They both restart on the whistle. TV ref for MNF agreed with the way it was handled.
So a team is penalized for its player getting hurt??
MetsAreBack : 12/6/2021 11:28 pm : link
That’s actually a fucking rule? Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Why wouldn’t the clock simply stop on the injury and wind when he’s helped off the field? Absurd on every level.

We've never talked before, so stop what, exactly?

Was watching it on Peyton & Eli and they just don't care to address these things.

Also, I don't care about this explanation, I mean if this is the rule ok, it was a fair result today. But it is a bullshit rule and should be changed, you should never be allowed to chew more than 40 seconds between plays, especially in the last 2 minutes of the game. Sad ending.

I get it, and it's important not to let this happen.

But the rule is just plain stupid, the play ended at 1:45, get the clock back at 1:45 and run the 40 second playclock, this way no one gets rewarded in a very dumb rule. This would be the right way to do it.

It’s a good rule. There needs to be some sort of disincentive, otherwise teams would fake injuries in order to 1) get a “free” TO to talk strategy during the injury and/or 2) give a breather to gut rest of the unit on the field.

Good points, I still don't like the rule but it is not a dumb rule as I thought. Just an anticlimactic way to end the game, was hoping to see a hail mary attempt in that wind.

But if the clock rewinds when the injured player is dealt with there’s no harm no foul. Rule makes no sense at all - I get a potential point about giving defense a ‘breather’ but this situation was not that.

Buffalo was robbed of 20 seconds with the ball at midfield. Probably does nothing with it but the probability was >20%

Bigger picture Why is the bills running game still so bad every year (forget the Allen part - the moss / singletary / Breida disaster)?
That game sorta reminded me of a Parcells Giants team

1st place schedule. Four of their losses were: Steelers, Titans (with Henry), Colts and Pats. The one loss they would like to have back is the Jags, I am sure.

Bills are a dangerous team. Their average margin in their wins is 26 points. With Allen and those wideouts, they are the kind of team that can get hot and steamroll through the playoffs- if they can get there. They have the Bucs next and another date with the Pats along with Jets, Falcons and Panthers.

You have to consider the way this could be manipulated if this wasn't the rule: if you're out of timeouts and trailing late in the game, you can have a player get banged up on every play to stop the clock.

it aint the playcalling as much as just knowing how to get your players to do their best and knowing what that best is, when its the best time to change and how.

It's like belichick is playing madden on Ps2 and just knows how to execute about 20 different plays on offense and defense involving 3-4-5 different formations. They can't stop the run? I'll fucking keep doing it until they stop it and if they stop it i will pivot to another methodology and win that way. LAst year he couldn't because he has a roster of players ranked in the 50 and 60s Now he's got a bunch of 702 and 80s and he's going to fuck up the NFL once again.

No one will beat the Pats in January up there in NE. Get ready for another appearance from them in the super bowl.

But the player has to leave the field for one play.

And yes you're stopping the clock, but it's not like a timeout. Once the player leaves the field, the playclock would continue and time continues to drain.

I think it's a bad rule given a player could really be hurt.

Using remaining TO's is sufficient for an injury within 2 minutes IMO.
just a little more on this rule..
BillKo : 12/7/2021 11:05 am : link
..it reminds me of when the defense commits a penalty and the clock stops, this happened back in our opener versus Dallas years back.

OBJ caught a first down from Eli that should have iced the game, but he was also personal fouled on the play (half distance to goal) BUT the play clock was stopped until the next snap.

So although Dallas gave up yardage, they most importantly stopped the clock.

Not sure if that rule was changed.

Giants then ended up bungling the goal line offense as we all remember...........

Exactly this. It's a horrible rule. Force the team to take the player off the field for at least the next play. If you really wanted to make sure it wasn't abused, make it for the rest of the set of downs OR one play. Wind the clock as soon as the injured touches the white boundary. There would be no benefit to the defense other than a few seconds rest, but chances are they'd be replacing a player with someone who is worse than whoever was on the field. So probably a net negative.

Obviously you wouldn't use a key player to manipulate the clock in this scenario; it would be a rotational piece.

And stopping the clock long enough for a player to "limp" off the field would effectively be the same as a timeout.

You guys do watch football, right?

Obviously you wouldn't use a key player to manipulate the clock in this scenario; it would be a rotational piece.

And stopping the clock long enough for a player to "limp" off the field would effectively be the same as a timeout.

You guys do watch football, right?

How's it like a timeout when both the play clock and game clock are restarted?

When you have a timeout, the play clock of course starts, but the game clock doesn't start until the play starts.

That’s actually a fucking rule? Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Why wouldn’t the clock simply stop on the injury and wind when he’s helped off the field? Absurd on every level.

You have to consider the way this could be manipulated if this wasn't the rule: if you're out of timeouts and trailing late in the game, you can have a player get banged up on every play to stop the clock.

Because they're both stopped for the entirety of the "injury."

Is this really difficult to understand?
