Our family lost a dear friend yesterday after succumbing to what the doctors believe was a stroke.
Richie was diagnosed with a brain tumor about 6 weeks ago. He was operated on and they had successfully removed it. He was in good spirits and was ready to tackle chemo and radiation treatments that were to start next week. He could have had one year left, five years left, ten.....who knows?
But I guess someone had other plans for him, and I pray he is in a better place.
Richie was a retired NYC police officer who after he retired owned his own private investigation firm.
He was long devoted Giants, Mets and Carolina Hurricanes fan (he adopted them since he lived in Raleigh).
I will raise a glass tonight to an old, dear family friend.
