Over 40 years of rooting for the Giants and I will end it, even if it's only for a year or two. I am NOT going to waste perfectly good fall Sunday afternoons watching the Giants get waxed yet again. It just isn't happening.
Nah its over

Even the Maras have to live here.
Anything’s possible

But him coming back is the closest thing to impossible.
nothing changes

if John Mara still is doing the hiring and Chris Mara is still involved in picking the players.
The last 2 Giants GMs who were allowed to retire, George Young and

Ernie Accorsi, did so in January, right after the season ended. They did not stay around for the next draft. However, their successors (Accorsi and Reese) were in place so there was a smooth transition.

With no clear successor, at this point, will DG stay around until after the draft? It will be next to impossible for a new GM outsider to successfully prepare for the draft when the whole front office has been structured by DG.

If that happens, the 2022 draft will be a bigger crap shoot than ever.

Assuming they hire someone from another teams FO, that person will most likely be up to speed on the draft, and least as far along as any team is at that point. If we need to keep the scouts in place until the draft, he'll just have to redirect them on how to evaluate guys, what qualities are most important to him
He should have announced his 'retirement'...

during the bye week in order for the Giants to plan for his replacement. But he's such an arrogant SOB that doing the right thing would never cross his mind.

If Abrams succeeds him, I switch to Cardinals red 'cause Johnny Mara will have proven he's dumb as a tree stump.
If they retain Gettleman it would indicate a shocking

lack of urgency and self awareness.

Fans would be right to revolt.

that last year with Reese. Where John Mara basically gave him one more chance, and it didn't work out.

I think what seals DG's fate is the Jones pick. There was a lot of different directions the Giants could've gone with their Eli replacement strategy. And it was probably fair to give DJ 3 seasons to see if he could develop and be an really strong starter in the league. But that hasn't happened, and DG used the #6 overall on him, which was criticized at the time.

And this seems to be an indictment of the grade DG and staff gave DJ, because it's not like he doesn't have tools, he just isn't a quick processor. He was sort of milquetoast as a QB prospect, meaning, as a prospect he never made you sit up in your chair and go, "WOW!" Now it's 3 seasons later, and the Giants are very likely needing to reset the franchise again and go through this process with another highly though of QB. I don't think you want DG running that operation again, after the badly played strategy the last time.

And look, I'm not Monday Morning QB'ing here. At the time of that draft, I did say I thought the correct strategy was to let Eli play out his last season as the undisputed starter, and target the 2020 draft for his successor. I would've taken DE Josh Allen, but also loved Ed Oliver (Devin White would've been my pick had he not come off the board at 5).

And who knows what would've happened if DG would've passed on DJ at #6?

I hope he's dumb enough to have a retirement press conference so he can be eviscerated on camera for his failure, but I doubt it.

I want to mount a movie screen on the side of a truck on the street outside his house that plays nothing but clips of him being a condescending prick about everything.
The Giants are a pretty stubborn, obtuse organization

But I can't believe even they would try to bring Gettleman back. His track record is THAT bad.
Please no

If Dave is back I'm gone. If Abrams is promoted I'll be gone too. It's time for an outside hire. I want someone that's not connected in anyway. I don't want Pioli or anyone connected to Parcells nor do I want anyone that's worked for the Giants for the last 20 years. If we don't bring in a new perspective we are going to continue being the laughing stock of the league.

Is a slim chance DG will convince Mara that the issue wasn’t the groceries but the cook, pointing to the Washington and KC games that were winnable but for mental errors on top of other narrow defeats and questionable strategy by Judge. In which case DG survives, Judge is gone and the next coach is Spags Graham Josh McDaniels or someone else who is a known commodity to Mara…. rinse and repeat.

they tried to fix the pipes, and ended up in a bathtub surrounded by a leaky, incompetent disaster..... juxtaposition DG-JJ-PG inside those twisted leaking pipes.....that is what the current NYG are.
