I forgot the exact point in the game, but it was a 3rd and medium (3-5 yds or so). Bradberry gave DeVante Parker a ~10 yard cushion which led to the easiest conversion you can have. Can someone explain why? Parker isn't going to burn by you.
after reading Sy's review. Bradberry has not been good this year, but as just a fan watching, a lot of it looks like him doing his job in a scheme I don't like. When the Giants secondary was really bad a couple of years ago, I always told my kids, when the defender is off by a yard or two that is on the defender. When he is off by 5 or 10 that is on the coach (or scheme). Bradberry has had some of both, but it seems to me mostly the latter.
From where I see it, the scheme is no different than last year with Graham. All cb's seem to play 10+ yards off receivers. For some reason Bradberry consistently gets burned when he has to move laterally, quickly. Puzzled why he looks so average this year when he virtually shut down receivers last year. Receivers seem to know a quick head fake and they can get open.
I was at the game and I saw McKinney playing 15 yards off the ball on 3rd and short. They all play soft. I hate it, its not an aggressive scheme. Its probably a result of no pass rush. Keep us in the game, lower scoring, chew the clock to give us a chance at the end.
Clearly its not working. We are keeping teams to low scores but we are still losing games. On 3rd down we dont bring pressure. At least on 3rd down they should tighten coverage but we dont.
DBs don't determine their cushions and drops for the most part. This is how we have played all year. Regardless of down and distance we are in soft zones the majority of the time and even in man they often drop deep. The S are consistently 20 yards deep regardless of down and distance as well.
Is more physical once the pass is thrown than before the pass. He is a good zone corner, will use his hand effectively at knocking the ball away. He isn't great at bump and run coverage. Solid in run support. He does seem to give way to much cushion.
was that Grahams scheme was the same 10-15 yards off receivers at the LOS as they used last year, so THIS year's scheme IMO is not the reason for Bradberry's ineptness. I too have been at the games and yes, the overall scheme in general sux. With no pass rush to speak of, you would think jamming the receivers at the LOS would be a better scheme.
From my eye: Bradberry was never the fastest corner (4.5 40 time in the combine), and sprint speed starts to decline for players in their mid-20s. Bradberry was always more about technique than closing speed, and if you lose a bit of speed you become vulnerable to things like crossing routes.
It's also why he shut down Travis Kelce, who doesn't have top-end WR speed: his technique is still there, he just can't keep up with the burners, and he gets exploited on those routes.
He uses his size and positioning to defend. It's easy to say he gave the receiver a big cushion for a first down but what if he were up and the guy blew by him for a TD or long gain.
The cushion is often when he doesnt have help from the safety.
Between being a go-to on restructures, and on a team with a significant number of loses with no apparent short term turnaround potential on that, as I’ve said before I think he’s making business decisions.

This take about business decisions is horseshit. Pleb take if I’ve ever seen.
Dude tackles, full stop. He’s a veteran and knows that lining up 10 yards off when we’re at 3rd and 2 that he’s giving the offense a free down. Why? Well that’s a question for the play caller. Clearly no faith in pass rush and no tolerance for a deep completion.
With the sentiment that Bradberry is a willing tackler. Doesn't mean he won't tackle or doesn't but he is a hesitant tackler and most definitely not in it to make a stop. I notice a distinct difference in his tackling efforts this ear as opposed to last year.
I believe these cushions are all about scheme. I hate the defensive scheme. Bend but don't break just leads to a burned out unit by the 3rd quarter. This offense isn't good enough to play soft. Where was the aggressive play we were promised at Judge's press conference? I haven't seen it yet.
Bradberry's play this year definitely subpar. His tackling this year has been awful. It looks like he is avoiding contact.
Graham's soft pass coverage has driven me crazy. I like seeing aggressive defensive play but not part of Graham's game plan this year.

Giving them a free first down at a crucial point in the game for fear of getting burned by Devante Parker over the top is absurd.
The only other explanation is that someone else was wearing Bradberry's jersey last year.
He isn't sticking close enough, even in softer coverage schemes...

It also doesn't help when we're giving such cushions.
