damn, that's unfortunate, but sadly probably the right call.

The NHL and NHLPA have come to an agreement to not have players participate in the 2022 Winter Olympic men's hockey tournament in Beijing, multiple sources told @wyshynski

Best D in the league IMO. Not many players, at any position, have this move in their arsenal.

I can do that.
(That being the Blackhawks defender's move)

I still think Fox is the better all-around defenseman.

OT GW. Looks like McDavid on this tight turn and acceleration out of it. You can see he was setting up the defender (Dach) for this move the whole time.

I know what Dach was thinking too, don't let him get inside position and get a good look at the net - keep him to the outside where he's harmless, but as I watched this play unfold I could see Makar was setting him up.
I don't even really blame Dach, if he plays the tight turn, Makar likely continues to the center and gets a good look.
Not sure how best to defend that - if it's me and the way I play D in beer league, I back all the way into the net and basically play second goalie. lol

but I still feel like Leetch is kind of underrated or at least underappreciated.
Matthew Boldy (from US WJC gold medal team a year ago) and a MIN Wild rookie...
gets the call to make his NHL debut in front of his family and former teammates (he left BC after two years to go pro) in his hometown of Boston (actually the town right next to me)
he scored the go ahead goal, this is his dad (and family's reaction)

Happy to see Bos lose too
storybook debut.
I love these type of stories. That's the one thing about Baseball and Hockey. No matter how much money these guys make it's always so heartwarming to see debuts mid season when they get that call up. Seeing how excited the parents and family gets you realize how much goes into it from the times these kids are little.
Shit, the commitment and sacrifices my parents and family made were crazy and I barely played in a D3 college. And that was nothing compared to what some of these elite player families do.

Games are being called elsewhere because of Covid, yet the Rangers continue to play all these games now with Igor and Panarin.
No method to this madness at all, other than NYR looks to be on pace to get 3 weeks off in February while the Islanders and others play 2 out of every 3 days
The Canadiens played the Panthers last week with 4 or 5 NHL contract players. The rest were AHL players.
I figured most teams that game would have been canceled but I guess with the border crossing being a big unknown for the foreseeable future they decided just play the game.
the next day after that game they announced MTL was shut down for a week. LOL. they were ok to play that game, but not the next day? it's so random and what I'll say convenient (from a science standpoint at least).
He 100% redirected that intentionally....absolutely agree with you

goal from Rangers GK's last night. Yes, he did not use a kicking motion, but growing up in an era when this was not allowed, I'm still not ok with it. redirect vs kick - ( New Window )

Listen I have no love for the Rangers but if thats not a kicking motion I don't know what is. Soccer players kick with the inside of their foot all the time. Turning your skate is re-directing the puck, swinging your leg back is a kicking motion I don't care if its with your toes or inside of the foot.
and it's maybe semantics, but I could buy an argument that this isn't a kicking motion, his skate never left the ice and he really turned his skate to redirect the puck toward the net.
My issue is I don't think you should be able to do this.
Incidental contact with a skate, sure. that can count, but intentional redirection should not be allowed.
the red text are injured players.
The San Jose Sharks have placed Evander Kane on 'unconditional waivers' and are set to terminate his contract for breach of contract and the NHL's COVID-19 protocols
GREENWICH, Conn. -- A Connecticut 10th-grade hockey player has died after falling to the ice and being cut on the neck by the skate of another player during a game, school officials and police said.
The accident occurred Thursday as the junior varsity team at the Brunswick School, a college preparatory school for boys in Greenwich, played St. Luke's School, a private co-educational school from New Canaan.
St. Luke's identified the player Friday as Teddy Balkind. He fell to the ice and the other player was unable to stop and collided with him, Greenwich Police Capt. Mark Zuccerella said Friday.
Brunswick Head of School Thomas Philip said in a statement that Balkind suffered a cut to his neck. He said those who were at the game described the play as "entirely normal and unremarkable in the game of hockey."
"I want to commend our medical, coaching and security staff for all that they did in the most terrible of circumstances to sustain the boy until the ambulance arrived," Philip wrote.

He traveled home to Vancouver while he was in the COVID protocol, which violates league rules. The NHLPA said it will file a grievance on his behalf.

So SJS was looking for a way out it sounds.
PHI has 3 players in protocol.
MTL had 10 and still played vs FLA because of the cross-border travel implications being unknown (IMO).

According to my sources very close to the Evander Kane situation, they are confident that a deal could be done in 24 hours and maybe as little as six hours. #nhl #hockeytwitter

Schneider and Trouba would be a nasty duo but both are RH shots so I doubt you see it.
Schneider hits like a truck.
No idea how PIT is as successful as they are, I always liked Mike Sullivan, but my respect for him as at a new level.
If I'm starting a team today and can pick any current coach I think he's my coach.
Good move for EDM IMO....though they still need a goalie and some D.

MTL with a -54 goal differential is second worst to Arizona (-55).
I thought it would be bad, but not this bad. the amount of injuries has been laughable, but it's not just that.
Other than Arizona they won't catch anyone. Ottawa is 2 points ahead of MTL in the standings (they are just ahead of ARI), but OTT has 6 games in hand on MTL.
I know tanking isn't really possible in the NHL, but any of the top 3 this year and next year can help turn a franchise around.
Shane Wright and Connor Bedard (though I don't love his height) would be a good start, lol.
Only leak I've heard is that Bobby Ryan did not make it. I was hoping he did after his "famous" snub in 2014. He was 26 then, now he's 34.
If you want to understand the frustration some of the players feel, that's it exemplified. You miss one Olympics for whatever reason (like Ryan in 2014), and then the NHL doesn't participate (2018) and then you miss your window.
