Here are the Walther Football scouting reports on Fromm and

Batenhorst7 : 12/23/2021 8:46 am
Jones-

As usual Walther football nailed it. The big thing I came away with after reading both reports was

"Daniel Jones holds the ball too long, has issues with decisiveness" (We know this)

"Jake Fromm goes through his reads and decisively gets off the ball quickly and very accurately- leads the receiver with a very catchable ball" (Apparently last week was not an illusion- he has done this throughout his career)

The arm strength issue comes up in both reports but Walther thought Fromm would be very capable in a West Coast offense.

They were non-commital on either of these guys having long term NFL success. We shall see.

Sorry I dont know how to embed two links in one post but here is the Daniel Jones report URL. the link embedded is Fromm, for Jones you need to cut and paste to your browser.

These guys (Walther) are creme de la creme experts, not some amateurs wailing away on a message board...have a look

I'm not anti-Jones but he is running out of time to correct his flaws

Yeah, because when I think about our past 10 drafts I wanna shoot myself.

Should have never been a top 10 pick. I just don’t think he has the pocket awareness and ability to go through his progressions that top NFL QBs need to be champions

I like your explanation better.

Thanks for posting these ...

... some here may be uncomfortable with the positive projection about Jones with the one exception that you mention.
Fromm

Was also highly a touted baseball player in high school but he stopped after his senior year to play football at UGA. I noticed he has a little baseball arm hitch to his throw. Perhaps that quick release has something to do with his muscle memory from baseball.
Here's Daniel Jones's scouting report

You can kind of understand why the Giants went for him with their first pick.
In my message board opinion...
MattinKY : 12/23/2021 9:19 am : link
If the biggest issue with this kid is his arm strength then he and the Bills should have been working on that.

TFB had the same or similar issue(s) with strength when he was drafted by the Pat's.

What the hell do I know? I'm a fan and a Giants fan at that.
That was one thing I noticed
Breeze_94 : 12/23/2021 9:27 am : link
Fromm has an internal clock that Jones doesn’t have.

He’s decisive and gets the ball out of his hand. He also has good presence at the LOS before the play- switching protections, using dummy snap counts so the pass rushers can’t tee off.

Looking forward to watching him start over these next 3 games. I highly doubt he is our QB of the future but ya never know.

In the Fromm corner, Batenhorst7!

In the Glennon corner, Debaser!

No matter who wins, they're both losers!
Question for BBI QB guru’s (and I use that term loosely)

Can a QB’s throwing motion be changed to increase arm strength, or is it too late at this stage of the game?

but generally speaking, it's a yes.

Peak arm strength is typically around age 27 - 30. From is 23.

A college QB refining his mechanics, gaining "man strength," and then hitting that prime age range - he should absolutely be able to improve his arm strength, especially if he has the benefit of working with professional trainers.

There are a lot of people picking on Batenhorst for his Fromm love, and yes, we're all desperate for something positive to hang our hats on. But "arm strength" is not a reason for Jake Fromm to not be on the field. He's the best QB on this roster right now and he should get the opportunity to play as much as possible so that we can make an educated decision about his future.

Fromm is a 5th round draft pick
Rudy5757 : 12/23/2021 10:19 am : link
Its not like any NFL team saw his as a future starter. He was viewed as a backup. On the Bills he was like 3rd or 4th string. Its not like he has shown much. He was also in mop up duty for the Giants when the other team was playing real loose. Lets see how he plays when he is under a lot of pressure.

Im rooting for the kid so we'll see. The GOAT was drafted in the 6th round so you never know. This team just needs something positive. It would be nice to go into the offseason with a better handle on the QB position. This draft doesnt have a top 10 QB in it, I really hope we dont force that.

is not something Walter should use as an example of their scouting acumen.

Daniel Jones Scouting Report
By Charlie Campbell

Strengths:
Above-average accuracy - no and his accuracy has gotten worse not better
Can throw a fastball into tight windows - no
Good height - yes
Able to loft in touch passes - have not seen this
Throws a very catchable ball - ok
Stands tall in the pocket despite the rush - no one can question his toughness
Good field vision at times - hell no
Moves his eyes - hell no
Works through his progression - hell no
Can throw receivers open - have not seen this at all
Can push the ball downfield - yes
Throws a good deep ball - yes
Has more mobility than many realize - yes
Can buy time or pick up yards on the ground - no on buying time and yes on running
Good size for a NFL starting quarterback - yes
Intelligent - maybe but not football IQ
Shows the ability to read defenses - Hell no
Knows where his receivers are on each play - have not seen this
Upside - have not seen this

Weaknesses:
Will throw into coverage that he shouldn't - not that often
Needs to improve timing - he's awful and hasn't improved
Holds the ball too long - way too long
Could shorten his delivery - I'm not qualified to say
Broken collarbone in 2018 - hasn't changed he misses games with injuries

Player Comparison: Eli Manning. Jones has the look of a Manning with his strong arm, pocket presence, field vision, and passing polish. In terms of his flaws, Jones is more similar to Eli Manning than Peyton Manning.

NFL Matches: New York Giants, Jacksonville, Denver, Cincinnati, Miami, Washington, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles Chargers, New England

Obviously, free agency will have a big impact on the quarterback market because some teams will acquire veterans and won't consider taking a signal-caller with a first-round pick. The first quarterback-needy team selecting in Round 1 is the New York Giants. They have an aging and declining Eli Manning, but passed on a potential franchise quarterback last year. They can't continue doing that. Jones could be their quarterback of the future.

Worst timeline for Giants fans. The idea that a single soul is getting excited to watch this racist 5th round pick who was very well known, so not some small school kid who slipped through the cracks, is AWFUL. He is not an answer to anything, but a trivia question naming all the QB’s that played for the team after Eli until we have our next franchise QB.

I agree the stupid gun comment was thoughtless, and a bit weird, well, a lot weird.

Wasn't The GOAT a 5th round pick too....as was Johnny Unitas

Picking QBs in the draft is like picking the Exacta for the Kentucky Derby.

Exactly.

Fromm = Lauletta

But for now he's a blue chip prospect until he plays with the game on the line.
Arm strength
Spiciest Memelord : 12/23/2021 2:01 pm : link
is overrated by bbi and espn watchers. There isn't a standard NFL throw you're better off with timing and touch. Kurt Warner admits he doesn't have great arm strength, and it showed when he was with the Giants. Bleh.
Arm strength
MeanBunny : 12/23/2021 2:01 pm : link
There is inate strength through elasticity, neurons and physics. The Physics can be changed-Tome Brady works on his elasticity.
If arm strength is the worst of Fromm's issues, there are tons of offseason things he can do:
-Work on explosive speed(easy)
-Work on his triceps-forearm, hand transfer(easy)
There are trainers who can improve his grip and physics

Used the N word, a regretted that too. Everyone forgave him and he was well liked by Strahan , Tiki and others

Kurt Warner was beind Tony Banks and Trent Green, and it took an injury to both for Warner to start in 2000. Dick Vermeil (who was a noted College and Pro Head Coach)was nearly crying when he announced the change. The concensus at the time was that St. Louis didn't have a QB, Warner was a JAG that was lucky to be on the roster.

I'm not saying Fromm is Warner, or will have Warner results, but I was around at the time, and if Fromm was on the Rams then, he would have been the choice over Warner. It's rare, but backups who don't have quality backgrounds do succeed in the NFL.

Here's another example (from Wikipedia):
Quote:
After his collegiate career, the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL drafted him in the ninth round. However, he was released before the season began as the odd man out among four quarterbacks trying to fill three spots.

Steelers' head coach Walt Kiesling had made up his mind about this player; he thought he was not smart enough to quarterback an NFL team, and he was not given any snaps in practice with the Steelers.

Out of pro football, he—by this time married—worked in construction in Pittsburgh to support his family. On the weekends, he played quarterback, safety and punter on a local semi-professional team called the Bloomfield Rams for $6 a game.

The player? Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas. You may know about him!

The reason Webb was ranked over Fromm in Buffalo is likely because Webb is great in the QB room, and will probably be a QB coach when he retires. In this case, Webb was better for Allen.

If Judge starts Glennon then Judge is a boob! What do we have to lose? Its all plus info if Fromm starts. We learn what we have on our staff - we already know what Glennon brings.!!!!
