How about a trade for Jimmy G in the offseason? He is playing well. He has NE ties.
He wont cost much, maybe a third rounder. Still only 30. Might be a nice stop gap that a. Allows for us to win a few more games so fans dont start diving off bridges. B. Buys us time to find a future franchise guy in next years draft.
I certainly think he is better than jones. He is having a solid year.
Thoughts?
Let Judge hitch his wagon to Jones for one more year. They either turn it around an all is good in Giants land. Or they bomb once again get fired and the Giants new GM and Coach get their pick of the top draft prospects.
Also I believe Jimmy is a free agent in 2023 so they can just sign him then if you still want him.
So why not just keep DJ and continue to most likely lose, giving you the shot at the top of every draft to indeed get that young stud QB who will grow with the team?

but with a sizable contract commitment. I want to find the QB I envision lifting the Lombardi, aim higher.

And shoot ourselves in the foot with a contract we can’t afford when we have to rebuild?
That is more than likely going to be reworked once he is traded

I don't want Mara tempted to extend Jones, and I think keeping him in there won't help morale. The Giants do a ton of dumb shit, and nearly every decision they've made in many years has been wrong.
I don't know how anyone can watch our O week after week and think that any QB would succeed with it. We've seen what Brady and Mahomes looked like in the SB where they had OL issues, and our OL is markedly worse.

Ouch.

Not sure I agree with that, he probably stands good chance of scoring on the open market, and Giants would not really have any leverage to redo his deal without the incentive of new money, eg new years tacked on.
Watch the Giants hire Cutcliffe to be qb coach, Jones has for him a decent year, gets a big contract and then he flutters back to earth the following year.
Well of course Jon but mistakes happen...its not jus tthe giants. High qbs flop all the time
I did. This was posted before his poor performance against a solid team though.
While he had a bad game, he is still an upgrade over jones...
Again...it was a discussion not a situation where i 100% want it.
100% right. He's a low end JAG. I'm ok with him as a stopgap, nothing more. You don't give a lot and you don't pay a lot.
And he was usually getting a lot more time then Jones has. And he has better receivers. No thanks.
Yet another example of how good coaching gets the best out of players and how the Giants have shit coaches.
If the Giants keep the current coaching staff it doesn't matter who they trade for/pick up at any position.
I wouldn't even give that up for him. When they're ready to move on to Lance, they'll have to cut JG. Sign him then if you need to, I wouldn't give up anything of value.
Now Mariota or Headley would be interesting, but the Giants would likely try to mold them into Eli.

San Francisco turned down an offer of a 2nd round pick for Jimmy in the offseason, they wanted a 1st. Despite his struggles last night I doubt they would settle for a 3rd and a backup QB.

This!
he isnt brady but he is a much more established QB than jones....

He is so bad that his coach is afraid to try to score at the end of the half because JG may turn over the ball. He is terrible.

What is he with Engram blocking for him instead of Kittle?

Well, fortunately for San Francisco there are NFL teams who understand the value of a starting QB and there are more teams than just NYG looking for one.. So they won't "have to cut him". It's supply and demand. They'll most likely get a 2nd in 2022 and a conditional pick in 2023.
