5. NEW YORK GIANTS: EDGE GEORGE KARLAFTIS, PURDUE BOILERMAKERS
Karlaftis, who was born in Athens, Greece, is the “Greek Freak” of college football. He is one of the most powerful defensive ends in the country, and he pairs that strength with arguably the best hand usage in the class and an explosive get-off that makes life tough on opposing offensive tackles.

The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Boilermaker showed a lot of promise as an underclassman and maximized his full potential as a true junior, as evidenced by his 90.6 pass-rush grade this season.

8. NEW YORK GIANTS (VIA CHICAGO): C TYLER LINDERBAUM, IOWA HAWKEYES
Linderbaum went from defensive tackle to the best offensive lineman in college football in just two years.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Iowa product played both sides of the ball in high school and was recruited to play on the interior defensive line, where he logged 18 snaps in his first college season. He then flipped to center for the 2019 campaign, where he started and recorded the fifth-best grade in the FBS at the position (81.7). Linderbaum then claimed the No. 1 spot in 2020 before making history in 2021, closing out his fourth and final year as a Hawkeye by tying for the highest single-season PFF grade from a Power Five center (94.4).

Tyler Linderbaum may be talented, but his size concerns me.

At 6'3", 290, he's Weston Richburg size (6'4", 290) and Richburg had trouble holding his own against bigger NTs and DTs. While the Giants need an explosive center, I would prefer one a bit bigger.
Do either of them speak German

Asking for a friend.
Karlaftis had

4.5 sacks this year. I'd rather take 2 OL Day 1 and an Egde in Rd. 2. Plus, at 275 pounds he seems more like a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 OLB
Karlaftis

Isnt a 3-4 Edge Rusher. There will be better prospects at 5.

Karlaftis over Evan Neal?

That’s a remote throw. Probably throwing my TV out the window too.
Sign me up for Neal and/or Ekwonu in Rnd 1

I highly doubt they can get both, but they need to secure the ROT position with a stud.

I can't see leaving the 2022 draft without 4 new rookie linemen and an Edge pass rusher.
That draft would be awful....

....
If the draft played out that way

I would run to the podium to select Neal and Ekwonu in a minute and just watch how much better this offense performs next year. I'd take the best defensive player regardless of position in the 2nd and then start looking for another interior O-line and TE/WR in the 3rd.
Hard no on Karlaftis
Ike#88 : 1/4/2022 7:05 pm : link
with our first round picks. There are much better prospects for our O-line than reach for a Big 10 DE who had 5 sacks.
Linderbaum's

one of those guys who's being linked to the Giants right away. Reminds me of the Scherff draft when everyone knew.

It's an obvious pick - hopefully no one jumps in front.
Karlaftis was invisible vs Ohio state

Not a good look for a "star" who plays at Purdue
Both of these guys have NFL talent but are more like

end of Round 1 type talents.

These mocks need a lot of work over the next several months. Or better yet, leave them as is and have our new GM trade down...

Gotta get off weight as an indicator of OL capability. Kevin Mawae is in the hall of fame under 300 pounds. Jason Kelce is still the best center in the NFL at his size. Ragnow is an all pro at 311.

Can't quibble over 10 pounds when you're 290.

Aside from that, Richburg is a small school talent. Iowa is a pro OL factory.
