I've seen Glennon play many of times before

He just looked like a different guy these last three games. I wonder if he ever got over that concussion.
I think Rudolph
eric2425ny : 1/8/2022 11:44 am : link
will be back. And I think Ximines has one more year on his deal. He’s inexpensive so they’ll probably bring him to camp at least.
and to be fair
bc4life : 1/8/2022 11:45 am : link
no one is going to look too good behind the present Oline
Carter
UGADawgs7 : 1/8/2022 11:52 am : link
I hope he is back.
The Giants don't have the money to pay Peppers...
sb from NYT Forum : 1/8/2022 11:57 am : link
...and the defense pretty much stunk while he was on the field because he is such a liability in coverage.
It baffles me as to how the Giants have a roster
GeofromNJ : 1/8/2022 12:02 pm : link
of marginal players, yet are always at or very near the salary cap. Either pay less or sign better players. Jeez!

Inadequate ( A failure of a) Front Office.
Eg. the game plan: run the ball, stop the run, play good defense.
The last one was the closest to accomplishing the game plan.
Tiki was right about the organization disconnect.
The insane thing is that we need those guys.
Jerry in_DC : 1/8/2022 12:41 pm : link
Or some guys. We have starters leaving and no cap space to replace them. If we want to field a remotely competitive team next year we're going to end up torching 23 cap space.
If Judge returns expect him to keep his guys,
HopePhil and Optimistic : 1/8/2022 1:07 pm : link
The ones he includes in his “process”. Players he’s invested two years developing, and setting a foundation with. If he’s fortunate enough to get a third or fourth year to complete his rebuild I doubt he’s going to gut his roster. It’ll be interesting to see the churn at the bottom of the roster and practice squad to see who they give up on, and who may be ready to finally contribute.

They will finagle the cap to keep whoever they want, and count on improved health and development, plus a nice influx of talent from the draft. Maybe they even surprise us and find some cash for a free agent or few.

The new GM will hopefully contribute to better talent evaluation and work with JJ to achieve their shared vision sooner rather than later. But I really don’t see a complete tear down this off season.
Some Names that Should Go
Bruner4329 : 1/8/2022 1:11 pm : link
Not thrilled with any of the Linebackers. Other than Martinez none of them really would be missed even Crowder. He probably can be a backup but he is not an NFL starter. I actually think the best LB on the current active roster is Smith even with a bad leg.

And with a coach that knows how to use Engram he will be a very competent player. He is a large WR, not a TE. His drops have improved considerably and he is not someone who should be blocking in the run game. Giant fans need scapegoats and with Engram off the team someone else will emerge as the reason for the inept offense, rather than an inconsistent and inaccurate QB, a horrible OL and terrible play calling. Barkley shows great potential to be the next object of the fans' anger and frustration.

Sad but true, been saying this about Engram for years, but they insist on him trying to set the edge in the run game.

Also notice that for years now most of his drops/deflections (for pics) are in traffic, crossing patterns. He makes his best catches on the outside, along the boundary (feels less anxious, able to concentrate more?)

I agree with these observations. I always said that I think Engram would flower with a more creative offensive team that knew how to use him properly. Don't get me wrong, he is very culpable but I think a better coach would know how to optimize his talents. I imagine him on a team like NO etc and I think he'd be a different player.
For the right price
morrison40 : 1/8/2022 2:02 pm : link
I’d consider Engram and Peppers, Judge seems to like them .
Engram no
Debaser : 1/8/2022 2:06 pm : link
I used to think his problem was jones and to a degree I still think it is. I think Jones is just terrible at timing , anticipation, and holding the ball too long and just throws late all the time screwing up the timing . Abd that is true and I think it contributes to Engram bad play but, sure enough he was doing that with Glennon too.

Mahomes is not making a star out of some guy who just drops too many passes.
There is not a lot or wiggle room under the 2022 salary cap
Beer Man : 1/8/2022 3:09 pm : link
So I don't see any of the bigger names (like Engram and Peppers) being signed, as for the others I might keep Fromm as a cheap backup QB, but the only player I would like to see return is Jaylon Smith.
Have to love definitive comments

About a guys future when at the minimum there will be a new front office and maybe even a new coaching staff. Totally new people making these decisions.

Whose to say the new front office / coaching staff would absolutely love Engram ?

Wouldn’t*
Rudolph and Martin will be back.
BigBlueNH : 1/8/2022 3:37 pm : link
Martin is 1 of only 6 OL under contract for next year, at small $. Otherwise, list looks accurate.

Draft picks and UDFAs. Gotta get young and cheap.

Not because the Giants don't want them back. They will be overpaid by another team.

Peppers is better in my opinion and in some ways similar to Landon Collins. That is the contract he will be looking for and more. I like Peppers and would like him back but not for that money. Pay Love and move on.

Engram I do not want back, but there will be one team that gives him more money than the Giants can. I could easily seem him become a Saint.

Exactly. He’s a move TE, not an inline TE. He can be maddening but someone will see his potential and how he’s been misused while here and will throw money at him. He very well may produce, too.

Agree on SB.
Peppers will stay at the right price...
EricJ : 1/8/2022 5:43 pm : link
again... at the right price.

He is also a special teams contributor and a good locker room guy. Would make a solid backup safety. Injuries happen and I think we would be fortunate to have Peppers fill in at that point.

Exactly. For most of you, if your job depended upon performance compared to salary, most of you would be out of a job.

Expiring contracts are an opportunity to evaluate and replace, but you don’t get rid of guys who are playing in line with or above their pay grade.

There are a lot of jags on the Giants, just like on every other team. The challenge is to pay them for their actual performance-not for the performance you hope to see. And you don’t get rid of guys just because they are jags, because you have to pay their replacements more just to get them on the team.
