Fallacy of NFL players playing hard for their coach

I hate it when people in the media constantly say, “well, they played hard for their coach” .. maybe they just played hard because they are prideful guys, who refuse to quit or half-ass it?

Just b/c the Broncos played hard, doesn’t mean it was for Vic Fangio.

This in reaction to the announcers tonight saying "despite the loss, they played hard for their coach", who is most likely leaving Denver. Someone in the comments mentioned they may have played for their contracts for next year.

Players know this is a business and they are constantly being evaluated. And not just by their own team, but by the entire league. Video is studied by every team.

That's not to say players won't tune coaches out, and some might mail it in at the end of a season gone sideways, but the overwhelming majority are professionals who want to compete.

It's a pretty low bar to set for a coach. "The players are trying to win" well no shit. Obviously when players quit and it's obvious on the field you gotta fire the coach. But just because they didn't quit does not mean it's enough.

Players play hard because they didn't get to that level without being ultra competitive. Most want the respect of the rest of the players in the league just as much as they want another contract.
I have seen way too many

players make "business decisions" on the field and yes players simply not giving effort. The players quit on mcadoo towards the end of his last season. Beckham made a business decision on an onside kick.

Played at this level?
If you didn't then how can you sit here and claim it's bullshit?
