Dan Quinn or Jim Harbaugh

Doubledeuce22 : 1/9/2022 10:19 am
2 legitimately good coaches can be had this off-season and they’re considering keeping Judge? Mara needs to show us all that he’s tired of being a laughing stock of this league. Say what you want about Quinn but the guy was a winning football coach and has done a great job with the Cowgirls defense this year. I put a lot of blame in Shannahan for that Super Bowl loss because he did the exact same thing as head coach of the 49ers. Should Quinn have stepped in? 100% and one would hope he would learn from his past mistakes. Harbaugh, if he would come here, would be the prime choice A guy for me but either of these guys would be an great candidate to bring stability and respect back to this organization. Enough with the clown that is Joe Judge. The guy is trying to be a throw back coach in a time where the NFL has progressed to a different type of game. It’s no wonder Mara likes him because he’s stuck in his same dinosaur ways as well. Let’s hope Tisch actually steps in and makes Mara clean total house. Rant over.
I don’t think either one is a very inspiring choice

But compared to Judge they are Lombardi and Landry.
Jim Harbaugh is a hard NO for me...

Not the guy to lead the Giants back to relevance.
Some big questions
Mike in NY : 1/9/2022 10:26 am : link
Quinn - Having Matt Ryan and Julio Jones in their prime, Atlanta underachieved especially on his strongest area (defense).

Harbaugh - The Peter Laviolette of football coaches. Has a lot of success, but quickly wears out his welcome everywhere. He was on hot seat at Michigan before this year due to stodgy offense and failure to win big games. That was an issue in San Francisco to as the playoff teams were more due to Defense.
Having lived in Atlanta during Quinn’s reign

I want zero part of Dan Quinn as HC. Dc, sure. But no way can he be the next head coach
ANYONE who will come in a challenge

Mara's ultimate authority is an emphatic NO. things are NOT going to change. Maybe the next generation of Maras, in 5 years or so.
Neither

Say what you will about his personality but he's already done exactly that with 2 significant football organizations.
Harbaugh

We'd be crazy to not want him. That being said, no way he comes here, we will not give him the money or control he desires.
There is no doubt

Judge has to go. He has not shown 1 second of genius in 2 years. The team is as poorly coached as any team I have ever seen. Not one thing improved in the 2 years he has been here. Certainly wouldnt want Harbaugh, but he may be an improvement. Wouldnt mind taking a chance with Quinn but he reminds me of Spagnuolo.
Harbaugh

I would be thrilled with.

Not Quinn.
Harbaugh should be one of the top guys on the fans list
Jerry in_DC : 1/9/2022 10:55 am : link
Most important thing is he's an ass kicker with a big reputation and tons of personal security. He's a guy who would stand up to the lovers in the front office. That's the biggest thing we need
Quinn...

is not a HC, but a terrific DC. And that's the lane he should stay in.

Harbaugh just doesn't fit here. He needs control that Mara will never relinquish. Which is too bad because Harbaugh would get this organization pointed in the right direction.

both points are true. We have too often seen good OCs fail miserably at being a head coach. They require two very different skillsets.

Agree that Harbaugh is not a personality fit with Mara. Unfortunately John puts too much weight on how the candidate fits the corporate culture and image.
Why anyone would consider Dan Quinn
Festina Lente : 1/9/2022 11:43 am : link
For the giants is mind-boggling.
IHarbaugh is the Billy Martin of the NFL
PatersonPlank : 1/9/2022 11:48 am : link
He can come and and turn things around, but wears out his welcome eventually.

Having said that I'd take him here. This may be exactly what we need for a few years, a guy who knows how to turn things around and build. Not a guy like Judge who has just maintained a good Pats team his whole career. If Harbaugh burns out his welcome after a few years, then so be it
No way could Harbaugh handle the pressure of NY

Ugh! Mr. Overrated Jim Harbaugh
Scott in Montreal : 1/9/2022 2:53 pm : link
His brother would be the only Harbaugh worth looking at.

Caldwell would be a great hire as Head Coach to right the ship and then hire Vic Fangio to be the DC. Add in Bieniemy or Leftwich as Assistant Head Coach and OC and this team will be back on track.
Harbough is the obvious choice
Eric on Li : 1/9/2022 3:01 pm : link
think about the specific problems the last 2 years with Judge and then remember Harbough's track record as a head coach - it's consistent. He wins. SDSU, Standford, SF, and now Michigan are all a lot better than before he got there.

This team needs a winner above all else and he has proven he knows how to do that in a variety of circumstances.

Now specifically to the problems this team has Harbough's teams have a few specific qualities that are relevant. They've been tough in the trenches, he's gotten the most out of his QB's, and whereas Judge has been plagued by conservative robotic decision making Harbough is if anything over-aggressive.

Get on the phone now and give him whatever he wants. Let him hire the GM. Give him the keys and pay him whatever he wants.
