Will the Bama team that played Auburn to 4 OT's this year show up or will the SEC championship version show up? Georgia just dismantled teams this year. I think Georgia is better but huge coaching and qb advantage to Bama
And status quo, Alabama is better at both until proven otherwise.
However, will Georgia be willing to put JT Daniels in at QB?
That could make the difference.
Stetson is an admirable man, he has made the most of his abilities. But he can't carry a team to victory. He's not that guy. Daniels might be. And I think Georgia needs this.
Why is Alabama +2.5 +100 when they are getting more of the money?
Because Vegas thinks they are going to lose. The line combined with the total being in the 50's to me signals a likely Georgia win. We will see later though...
Think they get it done. Bryce will not have as much success this time around.
I don't think he will either, being down Metchie is a loss. They have the talent to mack him up but on short notice on the biggest stage is a tall task. Definitely hope Young lights is up anyway, though.

Plus I think Georgia chocked and played a lousy game a few weeks ago vs Bama. I'm hoping with this 2nd chance they can be more focused and play a lot better.
So much better. Besides being 4k, the behind the qb video game sky cam view gives an entire view of the field. I hate how traditional broadcast football gives such limited views.
to give their D some air. But man, the way Anderson is playing is phenomenal. On the 3rd down play in the red zone, the OL had him squared up and Anderson just shed the OL like butter. Nice play.
the NT on Georgia(Carter) made contact with the offense on that penalty. He did not. Wow. That with the non-existent hands to the face and the super weak holding on the KO return is starting to get old.
People talk about targeting Bryce Young...hell with that. We should target Anderson.
He won't be picked before Bryce Young or CJ Stroud unless there's an injury to both QBs. He will be the first non-QB off the board in the 2023 draft. Phenomenal player
run by White, then Stetson does his best Brady impersonation by throwing the ball down field to no one and correctly gets called for intentional grounding.
seems too big for Bennett at the moment. Hope that changes, but that intentional grounding was a terrible mistake. He just had to move another yard or two to the right and throw it to the first row. He's making too many mental mistakes. The play on 3rd and goal where he danced when he had a lane to get at least to the 2-3 yard line showed it more than anything.
not being able to intercept that while staying on his feet costs Georgia 3 points at a minimum.
Kirby Smart's handling of the QB position has been a disaster for a while now. Fields transferred because he wasnt playing. Bennett just isn't good. He also is playing scared.
I'd give Bennett the hook. It would take balls, but he has that look to him where he's one play away from throwing the game away.

Yep, Bennett sucks. And is awful on the sprint out. Useless to do it.
by Georgia that may not seem big but they are adding up.
Unless you're going to scoop that ball up and try to go score which I couldnt blame them, dont touch it. Cost them what, 10-12 yards of field position?

had that look in his eyes right from the start that the game was way too big for him. He's not good to begin with, but he definitely has a load of shit in his pants and can't continue to play in this game.

special. The gap at QB and HC is what is going to cost them the game. Smart is a fool for keeping this guy in. I hope he makes a play to win it, but I don't think he's even capable of it at this point. It would take a fluke

I said very early in this thread that JT Daniels needed to play in this one
play by Young for the TD, but I love how the Georgia defense has been relentlessly pursuing him on just about every play, including that two point try. They have been ferocious.
that was the first 2 point conversion attempted by Georgia all season
Hate the wide running play on a two point conversion. The field is already compacted, which allows defenders to close more quickly. Running wide just exacerbates that problem.
That happens once every few years. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen a guy get tackled intentionally like that in college.
The rule is light years better than the NFL where a refs judgement call on a NFL throw 50 yards down the field and the guy makes barely any contact totally changes a game.
The NFL would be far better off with the college rule. Tackling a guy when you're beat is not what your instinct tells you to do which is why it doesn't happen much in college. It probably happens as much in the NFL as it does college

People say that but i dont see that being the case if they were to make the switch. Certainly not enough to make it worth going back to the spot foul. 50 yard pass interference flags on barely any contact happen a lot more regularly than you would see guys tackling guys because they are beat.

A 15 yard penalty rewards the defender for being beat.
Bennett looked totally lost but has been able to get it back on track. Good for him, I'm totally stunned he did because he looked that lost, but props to him.

Bama team either. Shows yet again how good of a coach Saban is that they got to this point regardless.
I was at Florida-Bama in Gainesville and they were outplayed in that game badly from the 2nd-4th quarter. They got out to a huge lead in the 1st which is the only thing that saved them that day, Florida was absolutely destroying them on the line in the 2h
just too much for even Bama to overcome against this Georgia defense.
Would have liked to see this game with Williams healthy entire way. UGA may have still won but we may have seen OT.
I hope Williams has a minor strain. He was walking pretty well when he came back out.
It would have been a much harder for GA to win with Williams in the game.
Really stepped up in the 4th. Mook nailed it. Just not enough on the outside and this Georgia front is huge and fast so no real running game for Bama to overcome it.
Young Bama team so they’ll be back. Again.
Nice story for the Georgia QB. Great inspiration to the young kids having a dream.
if I've ever seen a player look so lost for the first like 50 minutes of a game and then regroup in a title game. He had that deer int he headlights look and it was getting worse, and then he somehow got it together.
Awesome job by him. I know I wasn't alone thinking he was cooked in that game

No, a bunch of us stuck a fork in his back. Maybe that is what the GA coaches saw in him....
41 points allowed vs. Bryce Young in the SEC Championship defeat. In the other 14 games:
18 vs. Alabama (national championship)
17 vs. Tennessee
13 vs. Kentucky
13 vs. South Carolina
11 vs. Michigan (CFP semifinal)
10 vs. Auburn
7 vs. Florida
7 vs. Charleston Southern (backups playing)
7 vs. UAB (backups playing)
6 vs. Missouri
3 vs. Clemson (defense scored only TD in a 10-3 win)
Shutouts vs. Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and Arkansas
153 points allowed in 15 games, and 41 of them were in 1 game
Bama's young receivers looked scared and made no plays while O'Brien didnt seem to have a plan after the injury. You are already across midfield, why throw three long passes to receivers that clearly arent going to make a play?

Yeah I actually credit Bama for hanging in there as long as they did with no Metchie and no Williams. Then once Georgia went up by 8 it was just too steep a hill to climb for Young against one of the greatest D’s of all time with a bunch of young inexperienced WRs.
Young threw some real dimes under pressure tonight and a number of them were flat out dropped by those young guys. Young is going to be an ultra elite QB in the NFL I believe.
Great job by Georgia— that was awesome to watch. And great resolve by Bennet— he looked LOCKED IN after that turnover. What a drive and TD throw on that next drive.
Herbstreit said it after the game— you can talk about scheme adjustments all you want, the differences between the SECCG and this game was the Georgia D flat out played ANGRY tonight. Especially that front 7 at the LOS.
I think it’s clear the SECCG was simply a game Bama needed more and maybe Georgia was also a bit overconfident. I really think the former had a major impact on the game especially. But don’t get it twisted: this defense was historically talented and the team in general was loaded as hell, so once they ate that humble pie and suddenly had a chip on their shoulder, in those 37 days following they went from a great team that had simply laid an egg to a super great team. The fact their conditioning was questioned by so many ultimately led to them being by far the best conditioned team out there tonight— they absolutely dominated the last 11 min of the game.
But again— even having said that, I give Saban and Bryce Young a hell of a lot of credit for hanging tight the entire game with no Metchie and no Williams at their disposal. I know this wasn’t his best game, but all things considered Bryce Young is honestly one of those guys who looks like Neo in the Matrix out there the way sees the field and the way he makes putting the ball in the exact right spot with great timing look so simple. I really believe he’s going to be a top 5 QB in the NFL for a long time when he comes out, which is really saying something with all the young talent at QB coming up in the NFL right now.
Bennett looked totally lost but has been able to get it back on track. Good for him, I'm totally stunned he did because he looked that lost, but props to him.
Same here lol. Sometime late in the 2nd quarter I was just like “Jesus Bennett just sucks.” I picked Georgia to win but at that moment i truly felt like I truly understood what Booger Macfarland meant when he said there’s no way Georgia is winning a national championship with Stetson Bennett at QB. He looked lost and just incapable of making the big plays needed. Everyone talked about how his nemesis has always been the inexplicable turnovers at crucial times and low and behold we saw that. You could see in the Georgia fans’ eyes: they thought they were cooked once Bama went up by more than a field goal in the 4th. And historically in these big losses for Georgia it has always been one bad play, one call, one turnover that just snowballs and leads to heartbreaking losses. I think ever Georgia fan in that building felt that’s what was happening at that moment.
And then what happened? Bennett and the OC totally flipped the script. Bennett suddenly looked determined and confident and the OC was calling pass after pass like he had Aaron Rodgers down there. And low and behold Bennett was literally perfect from there on out. I don’t think he threw a single incomplete pass after that turnover (other than the pass interference play). I think after the turnover he was something like 6/6 for 80 yards and a TD. Absolutely unbelievable how Georgia followed that turnover-turned-TD by Bama with an absolutely avalanche: 3 TDs in the next 8 minutes. Crazy.
from these Georgia and Bama teams in the front 7. For all the back to front defensive building we hear this staff talk about it was Georgia's front 7 that won this game imo. Once Williams went down Bama needed to be able to grind it out on the ground and they could not.
Saban knew he had a young team and that he was light in the running game most of the year. Wait till you see Young when they correct that issue next year. He's a little small but his poise is very advanced being under so much pressure. Kirby has been knocking on the door and this was just one of those great defensive teams you do not see often with a bully Oline.
Georgia kept sending guys to harass/hit Young since his top WRs were no longer an issue and they could play more man coverage. They didn't always sack him but he took plenty of hits releasing the ball. To his credit, Young showed good poise and great accuracy...his guys dropped a few balls and had to punt or kick FGs a few more times than they wanted.
Bennett was getting harassed as well and taking too long to read and release the ball in first few quarters. After his pass/fumble, he pulled himself together and started getting the ball out quicker...and it led to those big late scores. Bama started looking tired on defensive front as well and Dawgs found some running space. The TE screen score to super freshman Bowers was the big blow as Bennett just barely got the throw out and over the Bama defender.
Good college season, great final game, and well-deserved Champion Georgia Bulldog team.
I'm sure Young will take flack for the picks as he should
Bama's young receivers looked scared and made no plays while O'Brien didnt seem to have a plan after the injury. You are already across midfield, why throw three long passes to receivers that clearly arent going to make a play?
Not taking anything away from UGA, but the game changed with the Williams injury. Bama still made some plays afterwards, but they didn’t look remotely comfortable. I’ll give Bennett a lot of credit . He looked overmatched early, but was able to make the plays to help them win the game.
Lot of really talented players on both teams. Anderson was a beast.
but this game reinforced to me that he is still the #1 QB prospect going into 2022. I hope he's a Giant.
Yup, he had two TDs dropped last night because his best receivers were injured. There was a back shoulder throw he made last night that reminded me of Rodgers that got them a 1st and goal...but they couldn't turn it into a TD
RE: I'm sure Young will take flack for the picks as he should
They had two of their last 3 TD drives that were basically all running, and they were tearing up the Bama front 7. You could argue the other drive where Georgia passes a lot was set up because the Bama D was trying to sell out on the run.
RE: RE: I'm sure Young will take flack for the picks as he should

Not me, personally I like Stroud
I would take either, but from what I've seen, Young processes the field and throws on the run a lot better than Stroud. Stroud is probably more durable due to being 6'3", 225. My question is will Stroud get a chance to play a great defense next year? They play ND out of conference and unless OSU gets to the playoff, he won't see an SEC defense
RE: I thought Georgia's OL was dominant and the difference

I think they moved their LT into LG and it made a big difference. Run lanes were steadier and the pocket stayed pretty settled. And ALA couldn't handle the interior DL of Georgia.
I'd also say that this was one of the worst ALA secondaries I've seen. They had a bad night, imo.
RE: I'm sure Young will take flack for the picks as he should
Again.

Gut says UGA takes it!
All my arrows point to Bama.

What did this line start at?
I think Georgia's DL has to dominate the LOS and create negative yardage plays. They have the personnel to do it but we will see what happens.
Think it goes to the end and probably a turnover late tilts it one way or the other. Expecting a great game but hope Saban gets number 8.
(We're coming for you Saban....signed, The Aggies)
If they win tonight I secure $1500… Roll Tide! Haha
Holy shit - he looks scared.
That wasn't clapping...JFC.
The defensive talent is on another level. Georgia could have 6 players on defense selected in the first 50 picks in this draft
haha - just came to post that
I was just thinking the same thing. Great catch by Pickens.
Quote:
Golladay reaches out and makes that catch.

Engram would have dove, it him in the back of the helmet and get intercepted
Lol, thinking the exact same thing...but with a lower level of difficulty for KG

Much lower.
2009 SEC Championship against Florida
2015 regular season game vs. Georgia
2021 SEC Championship vs. Georgia
Tonight
I hope so. It would be nice to see a good game.
But Alabama is such a machine on both sides of the ball.
Damn shame.
These turf fields bother me. They just seem stickier than grass and I just happen to see more injuries on it versus grass.
Yep. That's crazy.
Throw

Good stand by Georgia defense
He seems jittery as hell.
Not that I blame him.

Who would have thought it would turn into a FG war?
Nice to see some really solid defense by both teams.
Then half of each of my fall weekends would be good.
It’s amazing Giants have neglected this position especially being in a 3-4 for four years. Dean and Harris should both be in play draft day.
He's missing his top two WRs against a historically good defense
Sucks about Williams, Chao said it looks like acl + mcl.
Beverly!
Is she the one who kissed a girl and liked it?
I think they got that one right. He intentionally threw it away. Pressure in his face, not outside the pocket, no receiver anywhere near the ball.
Kirby Smart's handling of the QB position has been a disaster for a while now. Fields transferred because he wasnt playing. Bennett just isn't good. He also is playing scared.

That 1st down run he had an easy 6-7 yards and turned it into a 2 yard run.
They may win anyways, but he may need to put on a diaper if he hasnt already.

Aside from the pick, he's made some really beautiful, NFL caliber, throws.
Other than the SEC Championship where Bryce Young lit them up, Georgia hasn't allowed more than 17 points in a game
Now I think incomplete.
Bennett should have just thrown it away.
Yep.

Young can throw on the run. Bennett cannot.

OK. It looked like the Alabama defender did turn around, but not until just before the ball arrived.

A 15 yard penalty rewards the defender for being beat.
Anderson just threw an elbow into Bennett's head.
Quote:
on Georgia should have been flagged for that cheap shot late hit on 48. I'm shocked he wasn't, that was blatant

They missed that one. Obvious roughing the passer on Anderson
Bennett looked totally lost but has been able to get it back on track. Good for him, I'm totally stunned he did because he looked that lost, but props to him.
Let's see if Young can do the same.
The broadcast showed it.
There wasn’t one. Just rewound and he hit him in the nameplate

I agree. Crazy, fun game.
With defense, no less!
Like the good ol' days for an old fart like me.
Not nearly as big of an impact on the ability to tie...
I was at Florida-Bama in Gainesville and they were outplayed in that game badly from the 2nd-4th quarter. They got out to a huge lead in the 1st which is the only thing that saved them that day, Florida was absolutely destroying them on the line in the 2h
Me too.
Would have taken some balls to do so but the Bama d-line was totally gassed and they would have had it from the 1.5 yard line.
Brooks not putting both hands out to catch it what the fucking fuck was that. That should have been a TD
Well, that settles that.
Well, that settles that.
Everybody wants to be Odell Beckham....
Would have liked to see this game with Williams healthy entire way. UGA may have still won but we may have seen OT.
I agree.
Great emotion from the kid.

I hope Williams has a minor strain. He was walking pretty well when he came back out.
It would have been a much harder for GA to win with Williams in the game.
Young Bama team so they’ll be back. Again.
Nice story for the Georgia QB. Great inspiration to the young kids having a dream.
Georgia's defense in 2021 is the best defense we've seen in college football in a decade
Awesome job by him. I know I wasn't alone thinking he was cooked in that game

No, a bunch of us stuck a fork in his back. Maybe that is what the GA coaches saw in him....
Oh, no. Was hoping only a strain or MCL. Good bye early 1st round pick.

Congrats.
Crazy.

Yup, he had two TDs dropped last night because his best receivers were injured. There was a back shoulder throw he made last night that reminded me of Rodgers that got them a 1st and goal...but they couldn't turn it into a TD
Not me, personally I like Stroud
Quote:
but this game reinforced to me that he is still the #1 QB prospect going into 2022. I hope he's a Giant.
I think they moved their LT into LG and it made a big difference. Run lanes were steadier and the pocket stayed pretty settled. And ALA couldn't handle the interior DL of Georgia.
I'd also say that this was one of the worst ALA secondaries I've seen. They had a bad night, imo.
Not that I watch a ton of college football, but this take surprises me some.
Young looks extremely small to me...and I don't see the physical attributes (arm, size, mobility etc) that go with a top QB in any draft.
Obviously he's really good at this level.
