And with the news that Abrams isn't getting an internal interview, I think we could find our 2022 George Young...provided he is allowed to bring in his own scouts and remove or relegate the nepotism from the front office
Starting to look like a Knicks head coaching search
It is great that they are looking at all these qualified candidates. And it is great they are holding off on Judge, hopefully to allow a new GM to make that decision.
But, the fly in the ointment is that the person selecting the GM is none other than lamebrain John Mara.
Who knows if we would have ever gotten out of the wilderness in the 1970s if Wellington, once he was in effect forced to step back and hand the reins to a GM, had been the one to select that GM. George Young was in effect selected for him by Pete Rozelle.

I agree. One thing I did think of, where is this list of candidates coming from? No way Mara is putting this list together. Who is advising him here? And are they involved in the hiring?

Excellent analysis.
No it isn't. You can blame Mara for the last 10 years, but if you wanna do that you kind of have to give him credit for two Superbowls. You can't say that the two SBs happened despite him and yet the bad years were all his fault. You are what your record says it is and for the last 10 years it has sucked, but it's been pretty good in the past.
Just remember Mara wants to win just as much as you do. But the old-fashioned Giants' way has seen its day, and it's time to change. Do I blame him for that? Sure, but it's borne from a traditional approach and the best of wishes. I'm more sad than angry but I get why people are angry.

As I understand it the NFL compiles a list of potential worthy candidates. Honesty you could Google potential NFL GMs and come up with a decent list..

And who else but that lamebrain do you suppose is gonna hire 1?
Give Mara a little faith when it comes to selecting a new GM. You've got to realize that hiring Judge, despite his lack of success, was a real diversion from the usual hire. I'm sure Mara really believed in Judge's ability and was won over by him in the interview, much the same as we were from his press conference. Maybe, just maybe, Mara will choose a young and hungry GM who will work tirelessly and think outside the box. It would certainly be better than bringing in some old re-tread who has been fired by some other team.
That's what the GM is going to be per the Mara/Tisch statement yesterday. He's going to head up Scouting, Personnel and coaching. It should be a thorough cleaning. I don't expect Pettit, Mara or McDonnell to survive IF they truly meant it.
Adam Peters sounds extremely intriguing, possibly jumping up to my number 1 choice. Comments all over from worried 49ers fans about losing him, wanting Lynch to get promoted to president and Peters to be GM.

I think DJ could actually thrive in a Shanahan system… I like the idea bro

So that's a huge checkbox for John Mara.

Here's a clip from camp of him raving about their 2021 7th round WR, who just caught 2 TDs on Sunday in their wins vs. the Rams.
But, I also don't see him and Judge co-existing based on what I've seen and heard from Peters on his ideas/philosophy. More than a gut/hunch there.
