Mara Gauging Public Reception

Costy16 : 1/11/2022 9:45 am
I think much of what transpired yesterday in regards to Judge was done by ownership with the purpose of seeing how the fan base reacted. Mara is heavily impacted by public perception, the whole Eli/Geno Smith debacle was heavily influenced by fan outrage. The way this is trending I am thinking they want to get a GM in place to decide if Judge stays or goes. The key is that whoever the hire is, McConnell, Chris Mara, Pettit and Koncz need to either be removed from their positions or be told they are no longer involved in key decision making. Let the GM bring in his people.
Mara needed yesterday to know how much Joe Judge

is detested by the fanbase? if that is the case, we are in much deeper than I thought. I can see Mara trying to rationalize the fan anger and say all fans are upset at 4-13 and just give Joe time and he will get the job done. But, I can't think he thinks that somehow fans will be satisfied if Joe Judge comes back or won't revolt for the time being.
Sounds like nonsense to me

Public consensus on Judge has been horrible since the aftermath of the 11-minute rant. There is no way he needs to play any more PR games to come to the realization that most people think his HC is complete and utter buffoon.

Occam's razor here is that he is just too chickenshit to fire a 3rd HC after 2 years and he is pretending to let a new GM make that call. Even though we all know full well there is not single GM worth having who's gonna keep Judge around anyway.

I don’t think Judge is a stone cold lock to stay here.
I don't think so

Mara knows what the public perception is. Many many letters have been sent to him and he doesn't live in a bubble. He chose to let Judge focus on the game up until Sunday and they met yesterday. But there was no formal announcement that Judge will be the head coach next year and the letter that was sent to season ticket holders saying that a GM will be hired who has domain over coaching was likely not written just yesterday.
I’m going to pull a ShowMe State reply…

I’ll believe it when I see it.
It wouldn't surprise me if he was trying to gauge us

I think it's clear Judge is drowning and in way over his head. So, my hope is their intention is to not make a decision for the new GM.
If he hasn’t

realized public perception by now, he might literally be a dead man walking.

In reality , it’s just that he doesn’t have the heart to admit the way they have operated the Giants isn’t working.

I don't think Mara needed yesterday to know that the fanbase detests JJ, but he was hoping that DG being retired would slake the fans anger. It did not
Mara has been generally bashed for interfering

Maybe allowing the GM to can Judge gives the illusion that they will leave football decisions to the new GM.
As he should be......the fans are his clients

and as any good company would do, you have to gauge client satisfaction.

Are we? And I mean Giants fans specifically. I’d argue we aren’t - NFL increasing in popularity is the #1 client so that means women, Europe, etc. Longtime football fans are an afterthought (not Giants exclusive). Look at the better pricing new cable customers get vs loyal customers, same thing.

I don’t know why it’s hard to believe Mara can change the way he does business. It’s like that option isn’t even on the table with this board. Being too stuck in your own opinion (not you specifically) is just as bad as saying Mara is unable to change.
It’s not personal…..

JJ is just not equipped to succeed at head coaching in the nfl…..no game time awareness, no half time adjustments…..his players are listless and obviously in it only for the game checks….he owns last place in his division and, the only upside in retaining him is to lose out and out tank for a #1 pick.
Joe Judge might be a better coach then he showed us

But at some point it doesn't matter if he's a victim of circumstance, and it doesn't matter if it's fair to him. It's almost impossible to turn his situation around while employed by the giants. Hot seats don't ever truly cool off. The fan perception and the locker-room perception is what it is. He could go 5-0 to start the season and if he loses 2 in a row everyone will be calling for his head all over again. People will perceive it as the team winning in spite of coaching, not because of it.

The 2007 season was the worst thing to hapoen to this team. It is extremely rare that a coach goes from nearly fired to winning a ring in 1 season. It is extremely rare that bringing in a FA WR turns the team into a contender. It's extremely rare that a qb goes from bad to top 5 in year 3 or 4. That superbowl win was honestly pretty flukey, it was lightning in a bottle, and the front office have been trying to recapture it ever since.
