Per league source, the Giants have requested permission to interview Cardinals VP of player personnel Quentin Harris for their vacant GM position.
Well, at least the owners have been true to their word
with this search. It’s a wide cast of prospective candidates. Wonder how long this process will take now? Hopefully they can wrap up within the next few weeks as potential coaching candidates will be available then, as well.
Cardinals were bottom dwellers for years and they seem to have righted the ship. That's what the Giants need, strengthen through the draft and make smart FA picks for players that FIT the system the coaches implement. Saw the same thing with the NY Rangers as well. Can't just pick up the best players. Need to pick up players that do well in the system you run ie 3-4, 4-3 defense, West Coast, smash mouth offense etc.
to help these younger guys understand the process and to elevate their standing. It alsohelps to get a view from a variety of people how your organization is viewed, and the different opinions of how to fix it.
A wide varied search is critical and its the first one I have ever seen the Giants actually do.
That you win in the NFL by running the football as the first option. The modern NFL requires a dynamic downfield passing attack led by a quality qb and a running game to keep teams honest. You also need elite pass rushers.
Gettleman also thought you needed to build a team to compete in 1985, and look where that got the giants offense.
DG came here talking a big game about drafting OL and front 7 talent. He flat out didn't practice what he preached. Forget the misses. He literally gave this franchise 3 shots at 3 OL players.
didn't draft ENOUGH big physical players. If anything he focused too much on skill players and not enough attn on the 1985 style of play.
The guy devoted FOUR big investments in the OL. Last I checked you need 5 pieces on the OL.
Soldier = massive failure and well known accepted failure by 2020
Hernandez = iffy at best and again, pretty well known to NOT be foundational piece by 2021
Thomas = there's his one hit
Zietler = and he was traded
3 big time pieces devoted to the OL. Add one of them was clearly known as a MISS by 2020.
No wonder the OL blows.
1. Zeitler was a cut, put that on Judge. He would have said he doesn’t need him.
2.
Add in Gates at UFA(Cant account for injury),
3. Shane was promising until injured.
4. Brought in Looney and Fuller who preferred to retire than work for the clown show
5. Hernandez promising year one(then downhill)
6. Solder disaster, but was somehow good with NE.
7. High on Murphy got injured
8. AT best tackle in draft
Bodies were brought in and this coaching staff did nothing with them. Indy, GB, Pitt, Blt, and KC had to work with overhauled lines throughout the year and were able to produce.
DG sucked in a lot of areas but this is just as much on the horrible coaching staff.

Harris played for the Giants, too.
I want a big, bad North East football team.

That's what Gettleman promised and look where that got us.

Gettleman's actions didn't match his words.

That's what the Cards are. Except they also have the most dynamic QB in the game.

Are they? They look like a horizontal finesse team to me.

They are 7th in the NFL in rush attempts and 3rd in Rush TDs and it's not because Murray is running on every play.
They run the ball aggressively.

yeah its that same antiquated thinking that got us in this mess
