Brian Flores Likely to Be Off The Market

LTIsTheGreatest : 1/11/2022 4:43 pm
Would love to see Brian Flores get an interview for our next HC if Judge gets fired. Unfortunately, by the time the GIants make a decision on who to hire as GM and make the decision on Judge, Its pretty likely that Flores will already be off the market as the Bears already are set to interview him and I hear other teams who need a coach are anxious to speak with him as well. Ian O'Connor was just on the Michael Kay show and said the Giants job would be at the top of his wish list but he's likely to be scooped up before they get a chance at him
the GM is more important
UConn4523 : 1/11/2022 4:45 pm : link
I like Flores but him being interested in us is secondary to the GM search and also the next GM even being interested in him.
And what if the GM the Giants hire has other head coaches
GFAN52 : 1/11/2022 4:46 pm : link
in mind if they replace Judge. Let's get the GM on board first.

Agree 100%. Let's get a GM then argue about who the HC is, should we trade down, what position do we pick, etc. This team needs structure and vision first.
So, don’t put the HC cart before the GM horse.

Or, don’t put the GM horse behind the HC wagon.

From the Miami Herald article

In the other thread, sounds as though he’d want too much power for the Giants’ taste.
I disagree that GM is more important than HC

A HC can pick players but a GM can't coach the team.

There was a time where I was open to something like this, and maybe still would but it would have to be for a very specific candidate, one we aren't likely to attract (Belichick, even Harbaugh, etc). Doing it for a Flores likely winds up in a Bill O'Brien in Houston scenario.

While true I don't think its that repeatable. Looking at all the top teams in the league I think the talent really stands out and the HC's are more of a crapshoot. You've got Belichick straight down to Mike McCarthy and IMO there's a massive difference in their coaching abilities, a much larger gap than the talent between the two teams.

Agree. How much of Belichick's success has been from having the GOAT as his QB? And Dallas has two of the top defensive players in the league in Parsons and Diggs.
HC should report to the GM
US1 Giants : 1/11/2022 5:23 pm : link
so I think we must hire the GM first and let him hire the HC.
I'm not surprised, I'd be more surprised
Section331 : 1/11/2022 5:33 pm : link
if there wasn't a market for him. It is odd for a team like the bears though, hiring the HC before the GM?
Brian Flores is a PROVEN coach.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 1/11/2022 5:37 pm : link
Based on the list of candidates for the GM position, none of them are proven. I wouldn’t put the chance get Flores secondary to hiring some inexperienced GM.
you all only believe what you read?
Reale01 : 1/11/2022 5:38 pm : link
It just came out - saw it on BBI - that the Giants have been talking with Schoen for several weeks. Not an interview, but talking. So they did not wait until DG "retired" to start the process. I expect a call has been made to Flores to let his agent know if there might be interest and the GM timetable. The Giants are stupid, but they are not stupid.

Sorry no more Patriot coaches
Larry in Pencilvania : 1/11/2022 5:41 pm : link
The Patriot Way only works because of Lil Bill. 99% of his coaching tree fails on their own
Why would he be off the table
Giants73 : 1/11/2022 5:46 pm : link
Bears are the only interview on his schedule.

Well said. Totally agree
Why would he sign with the Bears if they don't
Bill in UT : 1/11/2022 5:49 pm : link
have a GM yet, either?
Not Really Interested

Another BB coach who comes with too many warts. Might be a decent coach, but there are rumors of an attitude problem with him.
People getting carried away with Flores
bluepepper : 1/11/2022 6:25 pm : link
yes, he seemed to overachieved but it's not like he was putting up 12 wins every year. And he got fired. Remember Gettleman getting fired in Carolina even though the record didn't warrant it? Everyone waved that off as some kind of quirk with Carolina ownership. Let's not make the same mistake again. Miami may have had damned good reasons for moving on.
Relax
cosmicj : 1/11/2022 6:28 pm : link
In 2018, the Colts got totally screwed over by McDaniels and were left scrambling. They proceeded to hire Frank Reich, who is a quality HC and was the best of the candidates.
Bears interviewing him Friday
jeff57 : 1/11/2022 6:28 pm : link
Not waiting for the GM to be chosen apparently.

He won 19 games the past two seasons combined. The Dolphins haven’t won 19 games over a two year span in almost two decades. And Flores did that with a noodle armed collection of backup QBs masquerading as starters.
