but I'm relieved we are going in a different direction. I'm sure he'll land on his feet as an assistant somewhere or back in the college ranks. Just didn't work out.
Not a good tenure here and didn’t work through his rookie mistakes. I still believe he’s going to pop back up at some point and do okay as a head coach. Much like McAdoo, he just wasn’t ready.
I think it might be an inducement to him and others we're interviewing. The Bears want him too, and they've already fired their HC. So in that sense, Judge's firing puts us on equal terms.
Then it became apparent even with all the injuries he just didn't know how to make adjustments in games and always talked big but coached scared. I'm wondering if he lost the locker room towards the end of the season as well as the fanbase.
I wish him success in his future and don't want to sound like I'm dancing on his grave either. He tried he did his best learning on the job he was in over his head.
RE: By the end, I didn't really care whether he got fired or not
Which is how it usually is - I don't get indignant, just apathetic. But I am just a little bit sad. Most people who claim to understand football are clueless (and ever moreso about their own cluelessness). So the anger I feel at him losing his job is more based in the unearned sense of validation his dismissal will give the knuckledraggers in the fanbase.
Well said. Not only are these people stupid, they are deplorable human beings too. Celebrating someone elses failure is a running commentary on your own life.

I'd invite you to read most of the comments. Most are wishing him well but happy that the Giants are moving in what they perceive to be the right direction. I don't think that makes a person deplorable.
He was the young guy that was supposed to our guy for a long time. It’s sad. I feel for him (a little bit. He can go cry in his millions and I cannot). Ultimately, he was nowhere near ready for an NFL head coaching job and especially not for a franchise that had absolutely nothing to build on. Best of luck wherever it is you land coach Judge

Maybe that doesn't. But "I'm sad for him, but happy the team is moving in the right direction" is not the predominant reaction to this news.
I loved the "We will not tank" speech from last year
I think the first year was ok and that year two would be much better, as did many others. I wish him the best of luck in the college ranks or back as STs coach with NE.
that the fan base and region can be proud of. Thanks for putting our players in the best position to be successful on the field. Thanks for coaching a team that consistently punched our opponents in the nose for 60 minutes with a relentless competitive attitude. Thank you for preaching discipline football. Thank you for focusing on the fundamentals.
Well, it all sounded good. Unfortunately none of that materialized. I do wish JJ the best. Hope he can take this experience, learn from it, and get another opportunity in the future. To be fair, he had an uphill battle from the start.

Fantastic post.
There is not a person on this board who didn’t want Judge to succeed.
After some self examination my hope is that he realizes there is a big difference with handling a crowd and coaching an NFL team that has high anticipations. Go finish learning the job Joe.

Probably the dumbest comment on this thread is your's. Nobody is dancing on his grave. They are happy the team they root for is not bringing back someone who was holding them back. Nobody has any personal animosity for the man.
Oh and he got paid about $5M a year for two years, and will keep getting paid $5M/year for the next 3 years or until he gets another job. He is not exactly sitting at the kitchen table tonight wondering how he is going to pay the mortgage or feed the kids.
I bought into his whole thing as well as many others
I've shared this here before, but a buddy of mine works the sidelines for Patriots home games, he's seen plenty of the sideline interactions with Belichick, staff and players in recent years.
He assured me when we hired him Judge is an awesome coach, the Patiots players love him, and he'll be great with the Giants.
We can list all the things that went wrong, but the biggest IMO is he encountered a level of adversity and org disfunction he'd never experienced before, and instead of being a steady leader, he showed he wasn't ready to handle it.
I can't recall a quicker fall from grace on this site. People-myself included-swore by this game 5 months ago. Now? 99.9% of BBI wanted him gone.
I've said the same. I don't recall a football topic at BBI having such near unanimity.
Seemed like it turned in a hurry too. I know personally, prior to the season, I was saying "I love this guy. At least we got a coach". Quickly turned to "I hate this guy, we need a new coach again". I still think he had some positives, some things you look for in a coach. But you just cant get past the fact that he was a horrible horrible horrible game day coach.

It is perplexing how the ship sank so fast once things started to turn this year. His game management was terrible. Maybe it really was that he could talk a great game and maybe believed it but really could not put it together as a HC.
Might have done a better job here..Go back to NE and Coach Bill, and learn how to coach kid..You need seasoning and experience..I predict you will get another chance in 5 or 6 yrs to be a HC..Good luck!!
Best of luck going forward JJ.

When you look back, the whole pool of head coach candidates 2 years ago sucked. Rhule, Wink, Mccarthy... Maybe Bieniemy...
With this roster, they all would have failed.
Judge will have success somewhere. One day.
i don't care about post game pressers. i dont act like these people owe me anything.
but mara meddling fumbled this thing from well before Judge was hired.
The "kneel down"
Lost the players
He seems very arrogant on the surface and maybe he just couldn't admit he didn't know and was wrong

He has left the building and we move on in a new direction.

All the best in your next stop Coach

Happier Times - ( New Window )
Panthers, Raiders, Eagles
Thank you for that
This team was a big mess, and clear as day Judge really cared and really tried.
McAdoo, Shurmur, and Judge have all been put in a crummy position. I hope today really is the end of bad days for the Giants.
