Judge Gone, Jones Next?

JoeDonLooney : 1/11/2022 6:46 pm
I believe the next GM will be somewhat sensitive about the QB position. Presuming Jones can still play, at best Jones will be relegated to compete, probably ending up a backup, or traded.

So the next question will be, will the Giants draft a QB in 2022? I suspect it will be in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Ja, du könntest Recht haben.

Kid is a football player.

Only concern is size.
I expect Jones will come into camp with some competition

at the QB spot. That may be a veteran but could also be a project QB. I think Jones needs that because he can't have this year handed to him. Like Judge, he hasn't earned it.

If they don't like a QB at the top of the draft, I am fine as long as we are not coming into camp with Jones and an assortment of Glennons/Fromms who are simply taking up roster spots.
the giants have a shit ton of needs beyond QB

but i guess its not out of the question. i would not mind trading down in this draft and accumulating even more picks for '23 and getting a veteran stopgap while they sort things out with the terrible contracts that are crippling the current roster.
Certainly if the

GM sees someone with the chance to be a franchise QB in this draft they will have to pull the trigger. With Jones being in his 4th year and showing very little improvement and not being able to stay on the field that would be a no brainer. Unfortunately there are so many holes to fill and not a lot of money to do it they have to count on an amazing draft to make any QB serviceable on this team.
Yes Please!

With their second pick. Danny has never had competition. He was just handed the job.

Competition is always good in football

Kenny Pickett is 6'3" 220 pounds. Eli Manning is 6"4" and his playing weight was 218 pounds. I don't think his size should be a major concern.

He did have Eli his rookie year

Will get rid of the best QB signed to a contract until he knows he has a better one.
Eventually

Don't force a QB pick this year. I'm not a Jones fan, but don't take one this year just because. The Giants are once again in a burn it to the ground and start over situation. As such, I would rather see them trade back with one of the picks this year and accumulate draft capital for next year when the QB crop will be much better. Use the remaining high 1st round pick this year on the best tackle available and then see who is available with the later 1st you get in a trade. Don't pick up DJ's 5th year option and let him play for his future in 2022. Clean up the salary cap and be in position for 2023 with your new QB and a better cap situation.

more likely indicate that the franchise values Jones highly and they want to maximize their window while he’s in the house. They’ve been failing him and they know it.

Maybe not the size of his body, but rather his hand size. As I understand it he has VERY small hands and its anticipated that he could have issues throwing the larger NFL football.

Failing him?

Did you watch his college tape? Who is failing who?
All I know is that Jones is way, way better than any other QB
Red Dog : 1/11/2022 7:35 pm : link
the GIANTS have now, and that the draft QB crop this year is not very highly regarded.

So don't waste yet another draft pick on a QB or do something mega-stupid like ship multiple picks to Seattle for Wilson who will be heading over the hill, if not completely over it, by the time the GIANTS are seriously ready to compete for a championship

So it makes sense to keep Jones, fix the OL and get some other real assets (WRs, TEs, etc.) around the QB, and let him compete this coming season. The time to make a final decision on him still isn't here yet. That is unless his neck injury is a career ender, and that determination hasn't been made yet either.
Watch what they do
JonC : 1/11/2022 7:38 pm : link
If they sign a solid vet or draft a QB, obviously there's a good chance he's traded.
Jones needs a good coach
Alamo : 1/11/2022 7:42 pm : link
And some good linemen to keep him from eating fake grass all year..If the new HC is half way decent, and with some good rookies coming in,Jones just might get us to 8 or 9 wins this year...I will be very happy to say the least.. This team needs some pass rush in a big way also..A couple of them will be available in the 2nd & 3rd rounds of the upcoming draft..After the line issues are hopefully taken care of,a CB or a S or a RB should be addressed, and a BIG WR,that can stay healthy would be nice also..But get those linemen 1st..Tom Brady on this team for the last 17 games, would be in the operating room, with doctors trying to do a Frankenstein operation to get him ready for next season...Ugh !!
QB
stretch234 : 1/11/2022 7:57 pm : link
With Jones there is a real health question - if healthy…

Fix the OL and see what Jones gives you. A new coach and GM give him the year. If he shows he can lead the team to wins you go from there. If he does not you move on in 23 with a foundation set for a new QB

I would not mind bringing in an Andy Dalton type for next year

Pickett was not good for 3 years prior - 35 games -38 TDs and 24 Int. This year also got to play Umass, New Hampshire, Central Michigan & GT
I don’t see that he screams must get QB. If the QB is not must get type I would not get

the cheapies

it's not enough to have a pro football team that well looks like a pro team and not a high school football team. We have to try and maximize value by either retaining scrub QBs or not drafting others in the first round who we nor professional talent scouts have no idea how they will turn up.

We have Russ Wilsons beating out Mike Glennons at NC state and both respectively being drafted in the 3rd round each. We have Eli Mannings who 1/2 of BBI does not think was actually a good QB being drafted #1 overall. We have Baker Mayfields drafted #1 who look like total bush leaguers...but yeah go pinch your pennies in a one billion dolar entertainment business or whatever it is)
1) Depends on the GM
RAIN : 1/11/2022 8:20 pm : link

3) Offensive philosophy

If Corral's size is a concern then we're not interested in Bryce Young (smaller, weaker arm), right?

schedule. In addition to the 4 patsies mentioned, they also played UVA which had one of the worst Ds in the country. In that game, Brennan Armstrong of UVA, playing against the better D, looked like the better QB.

There's no downside to cutting Jones now
Bear vs Shark : 1/11/2022 10:43 pm : link
He should at least be at camp. But he should NOT have a lack of competition, he should NOT be assumed the starter, and the Giants should proceed as if they have cut him.
