Mara/Tisch Families Just Don't Get It

the GM and the coach who have been involved in the last 4 years of this mess are fired but the owner who is the vice-president of the player personnel department for the last 10 years gets to keep his job???? A personnel department which over that 10 year period has been one of if not the poorest performing personnel departments in the league. Actually, let's go one better and let him run the interviews for the new GM....perfect!!!

The medium Pepsi debacle was a monumental fan/public relations screw up. Not sure how much Mara/Tisch "families" were involved or even if they knew about it.

No, "we" don't know whether John Mara's response to questions about Chris Mara's role is BS. I've read conflicting reports and comments.

Mara admitted the franchise is at rock bottom, he has exhausted the good will and patience of the fan base. One small step on the way back would have been to allow broadcast and livestream of his media appearance.

One reason for the way it was structured with no follow up questions might have been out of deference to Judge, the past two weeks, questions about the conversations Monday and yesterday, and to avoid a rehash of the disasters of the Gettleman regime. Still think it was a mistake.

I don't know these people. I'm not in the building. Everything I know comes from intermediaries: asshats, media, players, alumni.

I know what I see, though, and I can see that they need to blow up not just their team and front office, but their entire organizational approach. They need to stop doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. The firing of the coach and GM may indicate that they get that — but not necessarily.

I know something about how Hollywood works. It's completely cutthroat but things don't typically happen in public. So I wouldn't expect Steve Tisch and his family to be out front if they are pressuring the Maras to change. That means I can't tell wat they are doing or not doing — and I'm sure that's exactly how they want it. There can be epic battles happening behind closed doors and they would be fine if we don't know a thing about that.

BBI has an impact!!! No one in the media was talking about the nepotism stuff until it had been fully vetted on this site.

As others have said, he's a co-owner; why does he need a larger role, especially if he's the one front office constant over the last 10 years of lousy football?

Agree about the not streamimng live part. And it was not announced this way until the very last second, which is shady as hell. Owners can't take the heat- including the well-deserved heat from not being open and transparent. Hanlon was really weak today with this move, too.

if I'm the Giants there is no way I want him speaking to the media. Too much risk of him saying something different than Mara, that makes Mara look like a fool or liar. Hopefully the Tisch brothers have had enough of the Mara brothers making them an NFL laughing stock by association and are doing something about it behind the scenes.

I'm no Mara fanboi, and I'm as annoyed as anyone that my season tix are worthless, but they are conducting a search for a GM outside the organization, which is the most important thing. Get that right, and the improvement to the results on the field will make this all go away. Bitching about the format of a press conference? Who cares. Go back to finding the right guy and give him whatever he wants to succeed.

We should embrace the Giants at the very last minute informing NFL Network and WFAN that a live broadcast was being rescinded when both were prepared to carry it for fans to watch? Also, one question per reporter with no follow up? Get real.

The heavy lifting has been done(JJ and DG gone), so let the rest of the process play out and THEN complain.

I was in your boat the second I saw he was going to speak today. I'd rather see him spend the time he put into this interviewing an additional GM candidate.

Nothing good has came from one of his pressers for years, I'd really not like to hear from him until a GM is hired and after that I'd be more than happy if it was the new GM introducing the new coach...

but I tend to agree that Tisch is operating behind the scenes and that's why they pulled the trigger on Judge yesterday.

They are apparently casting a wide net in the GM search. We don't even know the full list of GM candidates because they have only released a list of those they needed permission to speak with.

People need to stop whining about what Chris Mara does. As owner he has the right to be involved in the process. Any changes to Chris Mara's duties will be done quietly and slowly. No one is going to really know about it.

Exactly. It came across as a horrible look when fans were ready to kiss his feet. Can't get out of his own way.

But it's not unreasonable to be concerned about members of the Mara family having a role beyond simply being owners.

Chris Mara has a formal role and job title. I think it's naive to assume he wasn't at least "a thumb on the scale" regarding both drafting and free agency decisions. And given how poorly drafting and free agency have been, he's role is likely not a positive one.

The Giants slide seems to coincide with Chris Mara's larger role (not suggesting he is the entirety or majority of the problem).

I think the GM also needs the title of President of Football Operations (or equivalent) to make it clear that at least organizationally, the GM is superior to all on football decisions.

Well, here's another thing: the Maras (and maybe the Tischs) are going to be owning this team long past the time all of us are too dead to watch the games. I'm as frustrated as everyone else and am thrilled they are making the changes that need to be made. However, I really could care less about all the other noise. Hire the new GM, let them get to work and let's see what happens. We can't change the past, only hope that the future is better. The rest of it is a waste of energy.

No one has ever been banned on BBI for being critical of the team.

Back in the day being critical and calling Jerry Reese Jerry Reach and criticizing Getts for the Barkley folly meant you would be banned. Man up Eric. If thats what you call an asshole so be it.

It was either a dupe or someone who deserved it. I have never seen someone banned for criticizing any aspect of the team. You're 100% making that claim
