And today's format sucked. Reporters could not ask follow up questions.

Everything is choreographed and managed. And people see right through it.

I'm actually feeling good about the Giants today!

Watching that Bears president was sobering.

And the chance of Hortiz or Peters. I'm more excited about them than anyone they've brought into the building for an interview since I've been a fan.

Mara would have been better off not having a press conference rather than do it this way:

--won't allow any follow up questions and one question per reporter

--claims the family has no say in personnel decisions, it's the GM and HC (we all know this is BS, just say the truth)

--asked about Gettleman and retiring, "no reason to do anything else." (How about just getting a jump on the GM search?)

At one time, this was an organization to be proud of. It no longer is. Those who are saying this was the same in 2018 and 2020 are correct. Said the same things. Hopefully this time, the results are different.

Mara shows himself to be a silver spoon with no experience outside of working for Daddy's company.

Is really semantics. His contract was expiring. The Yankees didn't fire Girardi but the end result was the same.

because you have to face the music, but I am guessing that by having reporters but without filming or taping it, they thought they would cut down on the grandstanding.

follow up questions would back the Mara family right into a corner. After all that has been said and discussed in the weeks leading up to this...and YES BBI makes a difference folks!!!...how could you possibly think it would be a good idea to have Chris Marra lead the GM interviews???? They need to get their noses out of the football operations and they simply will not do it. They want to play with their toy. It doesn't matter if they suck at it and are unqualified to do it effectively it is what they want to do. Good luck landing a GM who will make a difference. do they really expect me to believe that Chris Marra spends most of his time on college player evaluations and has not input on which players get picked???? come on.

To the extent that media & fan criticism has led to them actually looking to an outside GM, and firing Judge, then this type of behavior - where they try to manage the situation in this awkward way - will continue to be called out by the media and by fans. The more criticism of how the Giants operate the better at this point.

Absolutely, 10,000% blew this presser with the sudden blackout on airing it live, and the question format. Came across as weak and incompetent.

It's better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I agree, what was the point? I know they want to manage the PR cycle as best they can, but this is the extreme example of them not being able to self-scout - John Mara has to realize he is not the smoothest in front of a camera. That's fine, but just one reason to delay doing this until you have something to report.

1) Some want Judge fired and think this is great and others say Mara is at fault for not giving coaches more than 2 years.

2) The biggest downfall of this organization goes back a number of years when they couldn't let go of Eli (as many on here couldn't either).

3) Jerry Reese was blamed for his missing on draft picks and then DG is blamed for, well, pretty much everything he did.

4) Fans want instant success and the Giants thought they were ascending after 2020 and went out and grabbed multiple players in FA to build this team for 2021 (and I am sure Judge signed off and or was behind a lot of those) and they didn't pan out.

The Giants are taking a different approach here, one that all here were asking them to do and yet it still isn't enough even though we haven't seen the results of this change yet. Many here want ownership to be uninvolved PERIOD, which is never going to happen. How about we see where they go this time, who is brought in and who the new coach is before declaring this a failure. I suspect many of you just enjoy being unhappy and will find fault and angst no matter what direction they go in.

To have the owner of the team speaking and not have it available live ANYWHERE is absurd in 2022.

Fans are frustrated, there are major changes coming, the owner is addressing the state of the franchise, and it's not even on the goddamn team website?

a second question could have been asked about. Mara said the GM and Coach select the players and he only gets involved if there are off the field concerns. My question then, did that include Micah Parsons? Was there an off the field concern with him that kept him from being a Giants pick?

the GM and the coach who have been involved in the last 4 years of this mess are fired but the owner who is the vice-president of the player personnel department for the last 10 years gets to keep his job???? A personnel department which over that 10 year period has been one of if not the poorest performing personnel departments in the league. Actually, let's go one better and let him run the interviews for the new GM....perfect!!!

The medium Pepsi debacle was a monumental fan/public relations screw up. Not sure how much Mara/Tisch "families" were involved or even if they knew about it.

No, "we" don't know whether John Mara's response to questions about Chris Mara's role is BS. I've read conflicting reports and comments.

Mara admitted the franchise is at rock bottom, he has exhausted the good will and patience of the fan base. One small step on the way back would have been to allow broadcast and livestream of his media appearance.

One reason for the way it was structured with no follow up questions might have been out of deference to Judge, the past two weeks, questions about the conversations Monday and yesterday, and to avoid a rehash of the disasters of the Gettleman regime. Still think it was a mistake.

I don't know these people. I'm not in the building. Everything I know comes from intermediaries: asshats, media, players, alumni.

I know what I see, though, and I can see that they need to blow up not just their team and front office, but their entire organizational approach. They need to stop doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. The firing of the coach and GM may indicate that they get that — but not necessarily.

I know something about how Hollywood works. It's completely cutthroat but things don't typically happen in public. So I wouldn't expect Steve Tisch and his family to be out front if they are pressuring the Maras to change. That means I can't tell wat they are doing or not doing — and I'm sure that's exactly how they want it. There can be epic battles happening behind closed doors and they would be fine if we don't know a thing about that.

you are dead right. The defensiveness John Marra showed regarding his family and the fact that we have heard nothing about a revamped personnel department is VERY concerning. I will say one thing. BBI has an impact!!! No one in the media was talking about the nepotism stuff until it had been fully vetted on this site.

As others have said, he's a co-owner; why does he need a larger role, especially if he's the one front office constant over the last 10 years of lousy football?

They don't rely upon Chris doing this job in order to get to the player personnel decisions.

The ire is that Mara had a chance to build up some good will again today and managed to blunder it. Kind of dampened the optimism from yesterday

Agree about the not streamimng live part. And it was not announced this way until the very last second, which is shady as hell. Owners can't take the heat- including the well-deserved heat from not being open and transparent. Hanlon was really weak today with this move, too.

but I can't figure out why he spoke today at all? What was the point? Get the tough questions out of the way so when new hires are made he doesn't have to answer anything about the past 5 years? I guess that was it.

if I'm the Giants there is no way I want him speaking to the media. Too much risk of him saying something different than Mara, that makes Mara look like a fool or liar. Hopefully the Tisch brothers have had enough of the Mara brothers making them an NFL laughing stock by association and are doing something about it behind the scenes.

I'm no Mara fanboi, and I'm as annoyed as anyone that my season tix are worthless, but they are conducting a search for a GM outside the organization, which is the most important thing. Get that right, and the improvement to the results on the field will make this all go away. Bitching about the format of a press conference? Who cares. Go back to finding the right guy and give him whatever he wants to succeed.
