He is one of those coaches that likes the college game/life. He may come back into the NFL, but give it a couple of years and he'll ditch the NFL team and go back to coach another major University.
People already realize he's a fraud, he can't afford to lose to Ohio State four out of the next five years again. He needs to bolt now, while the shine of his pixie-dust season is still fresh.

what? the guy is a great coach. michigan was trash because of the likes of rich rod and hoke and he turned it around. Just because he comes off as a douche stop taking away his success as a coach
Jim Harbaugh Would Be A True Boom / Bust Head Coach
His 49ers team that faced the Giants in the 2011 season NFC championship game is the type of team most of us wish the current Giants were: hard hitting, physical, tough minded etc. It took a super performance by Eli to beat them.
But I could see Harbaugh having trouble with NY media. He seems to have the thin skin that Judge had.

where as he failed as a coach? you cant compare Mich to Ohio St in recruiting it will never be equal

I'm not sure what part of going from unranked to the CFB playoffs makes him a fraud, but OK.
he realizes the Raiders can't fire Bisaccia after what he's done.
Supposedly in his heart, he'd love the Bears coaching job (having played there) but McCaskey's wont break their org structure nor pay him what he wants.

I think you're right. He stuck his toe in the water to see if anyone would throw money at him, but isn't getting the response he wanted.
I think he maxed out at Mich, it will be tough enough to win the B10 regularly, no less make the playoffs. I actually think he's better suited for the NFL, but I think NFL teams are more reluctant to give him full control.
I believe this is likely correct. Harbaugh gave money back after Michigan had a horrible Covid year. So, he's probably angling to claw some of that money back. And off an unexpectedly good year, this is the right time.
I don't think this is how people in Ann Arbor feel at all right now.
I have a number of friends who are UM alums, and they were getting very frustrated at losing to OSU every year. The shine is off for now, but what happens if he goes on another losing streak to OSU?

Those guys have been gone 8 years and Harbaugh had two 10 wins seasons his first two years there. Hasn't won more games than that until this year. He hasn't been the success there they had hoped for until this year.

i think expectations were a little too high. Brady Hoke and Rich Rodriguez before him were recruiting awful players. im not sure how many nfl players michigan produced during those years and the ones they did like Denard Robinson werent that great. He has had good teams with guys who have now gone to the NFL and become good players. But he has never had a qb. He had Ruddock and Patterson and to a lesser extent McNamara. Next year the offense will have McCarthy, Edwards and Andrel Anthony and another good recruiting class. it seems the time for exteneded success is actually now
he isn't Bill Belichick. Get the GM right, go from there.
Honest question but why not?
It's only the Maras money after all.
I agree Harbaugh has some warts. No one is BB but I do think both Harbaughs are on equal footing with guys like Payton, Tomlin, Andy Reid, etc. I would do whatever it took to bring one of those guys in here this time because the situation calls for it. We need established credibility. These up and comers are all one big gamble after the next.

they are 61-24 with Harbaugh. They were 46-42 under rich rod and hoke. I'll sign up for harbaugh and what the future is looking like than to have him leave and we hire someone not even close go him. I get the frustration with not beating ohio st. I damn near cried tears of joy when we beat them

If we called the Saints and Sean Payton would be willing to leave, would you trade one of our first rounders this year for him? I just might. Because you do raise a good point that there is certainly considerable risk trying to nail the HC who has never been one.

Nope.

I’d rather not. Not because he isn’t good or anything but there’s something about him I just don’t like or trust
In a league where you either do or don't have a QB
Regarding Harbaugh, I find it hilarious that there are people who would call (rightfully) the Giants organization "stodgy, nepotistic, old fashioned...etc" and out of the other side of their mouths call Harbaugh "headcase, controlling, blah blah blah"
Fucking guy has been a game changer everywhere. Offensive minded, and clearly has the resources to turn his next team around immediately. (from a black book of coaches standpoint)
Do you all forget that we've already run the syntax on a rookie head coach. It rarely works. Belichick and Parcells both failed, or nearly failed the first go around.
RE: In a league where you either do or don't have a QB
Sean Payton currently does not, which makes it a very interesting question and one that if I were Mara I would snoop around.
My answer is yes. I would trade one of the 1st rounders.
I would then have a coach I trusted in place to make a decision on Corral/Pickett.
I would definitely reach out and test any possible interest for sure. I think most of us believe that having a really good HC is a vital as any positional player, especially one as great as Payton. Hell, he was able to somehow scrape out nine wins with that team this year with some mediocre QBs.

First this year and next. 4 qb’s this year and they went 9-8.
I wish the Giants put their you know what on the table and get an elite HC in here.
I don't think this is how people in Ann Arbor feel at all right now.

That is exactly right... Jim is no dummy, he got half his pay reduced last season...50%!! He wants that keeeesh back
