You have to give Mara credit for being forthright and not sugarcoating the current mess. But this is a results-oriented league, the Giants' performance has been dismal since 2012. Why will the results be different this time, when you consider his track record over the last several years?
Mara's comments from key press conferences dating back to 2017:
Mara, Jan. 12, 2022 (firing of Joe Judge/Gettleman retirement) – “I feel very good about the group of candidates for the GM job that we have scheduled now. Any one of them would make an excellent GM...I am confident that we have the resources to make the right choice here.”
Mara, Dec. 30, 2019 (firing of Pat Shurmur) – “I’d like to think that we can start winning next year… I think there are some very attractive candidates who will have interest in this job. I believe we will get it right this time.”
Mara, Dec. 29, 2017 (hiring of Dave Gettleman) – “I expect us to be a good team in 2018. You go from last to first or first to last, teams do that every year...I don’t see any reason why we can’t have a successful team next year.”
Not a troll, why will the Giants' ownership brass get it right this time? The injuries were brutal this season, that's the only mitigating factor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but did the Giants have more than five games this season when Toney, Saquon, Golladay, and Shep were all active in the same game? That's the biggest reason why the team struggled so much this year. Would just like to see some reasons why the Giants will hire the right head coach/GM combo to get back to the playoffs by 2025.
Let me know how many owners let the press know they expect a losing season. I’ll wait.

The team struggled because the OLine was terrible and Daniel Jones is average, at best. Throw in ultra conservative play calling and bend and break defense, and it's a recipe for disaster. They were 0-3 when everyone was healthy...it's just a bad football team.

In that case you're asking a question that can't be answered, so it just sounds like you're crapping on the owner (I understand that you're not).
People get hired and oversell themselves on their resumes and in interviews all the time (I'm guilty of this).
The only reason it might be different is that John and Steve will pick the right GM, and not by being lucky, but by having an excellent network of intel around the league.
I think that had that once, not sure if they still do.
This guy is humiliated and is owning up to this mess. What’s different is his acknowledgment that “blowing it up”, ripping the band aid off and starting from scratch is necessary. Step 1 be VERY thorough amd take their time to get the GM hire right. He can’t do or say more than that.
Two years ago, when the Giants hired Judge there weren't many slam dunk candidates available. Look at how Rhule has turned out.
I liked the Shurmur hire, but preferred Jim Schwartz. In Detroit, Schwartz took a perpetual cellar dweller to the playoffs. He also had a proclivity for dialing up exotic blitzes in Philly that gave opposing QBs fits. Now, he's back with the Titans as a senior defensive assistant. The Titans ranked 29th against the pass and 28th overall in 2020. This season, they're only giving up about 20 ppg and rank 12th overall on defense.
If the Giants get it wrong again, we will likely be having this same chat three years from now.

WHAT COULD THE MAN HAVE SAID that would have left you thinking:
[/i]OK, then, that's good.[/i]
