One respected longtime NFL evaluator predicted that the new Giants GM "will be a guy named Joe... Schoen or Hortiz ...And I would hire Hortiz."
and John Mara said today:
Quote:
Chris (Mara) is a very skilled evaluator
I guess it's going to be a Joe. Either one is fine with me. I have no idea how to choose a GM. I hope the Joe they pick turns out to be a great GM who picks a great coach.
comes from an organization that has had success for longer. Buffalo has built an outstanding roster, but that's only in the last couple of years. I don't think luck is necessarily involved there, but the Ravens have been in contention for what seems like 20 years.
but I don't remember it. So I have no idea who he is but it has always amazed me how the Ravens are always good and can keep plugging in players for players who leave for big money and keep winning. It seems they lost half their team to injuries this year and their QB for the stretch run and they still were in contention on week 18. I know they have one of the best HCs and coaching staff but it's still impressive as hell.
Schoen grew up not too far from Chicago and I believe he grew up a Bears fan. That GM job is open as well, although I’m too lazy to look up if they are interviewing him.
Those are the two I like the most among those that were mentioned among the interviewees. If I had to choose between them I would give Horitz the slight edge but Schoen is a good option.
unless this "evaluator" is just stating his top 2, the idea that Jints Central's mind is already made up before even interviewing hortiz or about 5 other guys on the list is just amazing....
Ozzie emphasized defense and they were pretty much always strong on the OL and front 7. Outstanding LB's. The dilemma was solving the QB spot. I think they still have the same problem today.
I would not want that offensive style as a foundation of a championship team. Last time they cashed in it was on the arm of Flacco from the pocket who was pretty immobile.
So if they hire this guy I'll take all of the Ravens strengths with the caveat they draft a pocket QB first.

I don’t think it means they’ve decided on those two.

I think the fact that Hortiz wasn't in the first round of announcements but was after Judge was canned would suggest he wasn't originally interested and became serious.
It's not like Hortiz was someone that they suddenly became aware of, he's one of the top guys out there.
They also took one of ours in BB. I would not be surprised if Ozzie learned a little of the Giants way during that time. They certainly placed a high value still today on the OL and defense.
So long as they get total authority over football operations.
I don't see any of the good one's taking the job short of that
Is there an owner in the league not named Bob Kraft that gives GM or pres. football ops or whatever the title "total authority?"
Let me refine that to authority short of John Mara veto input. And Mara would need to spell out in advance the situations where he would exercise that, like as I've said elsewhere, maybe over a #1 draft pick or numbers on a big contract (Tisch).

Not just that they play good D and OL, but they play fst and aggressive. Just take a look at the body types playing LB for the Ravens vs those of the Giants. Jaylon Smith sorta looks the type
The ravens team now is the old cleveland browns, EA and Young came from the old baltimore colts now the Indy colts
The Cleveland Browns part of this statement I believe is incorrect
“As part of a settlement between the league and the city of Cleveland, Modell was required to leave the Browns' history, team colors, and records in Cleveland for a replacement team and replacement personnel that would resume play in 1999.”

This is what a lot of linebackers look like in the NFL. It's just that the Giants haven't cared about linebackers since the 80s
seem like the 2 most qualified of the candidates mentioned

Come on Chef. What the heck did he experience with the Giants in the 80's? I would not be surprised as I said where BB left Ozzie with some blueprints based on his time with the Giants. The Ravens defense was very similar to how the Giants played.

Baltimore has churned out so many studs in the front 7 over the years, it's impressive. Especially for a team that rarely ever picks inside the top 20.

Please.
I also can't pretend to know much about either of them, just going by what others say.
I don't see any of the good one's taking the job short of that
Therein lies the problem. Mara’s won’t give that authority, therefore I believe both turn down the job.
I think whore tits likes many positions.
IDK. Anyone set or planned for an interview beyond first 4?

I hope they don't hire Hortiz because the only thing I will think of now is whore tits.

He laid that one right over the plate
Its just the opinion of some anonymous league source, take a deep breath.
isn't it amazing? like the search means nothing.

Lol, imagine the NY Post headlines if they hire him and he makes mistakes.

Mara indicated that nobody has turned them down.
Correction: Hortiz, not Ortiz.
Pardon me.
