Actually I am okay with how the Giants have handle things

Look, they put themselves in a tough spot and deservedly so have heard it from the fans & media. Sure they let DG retire but he was gone no matter what. After his service with the team and the NFL, they felt that was the best way to let him go. They tried to do it respectfully.

I think Judge was gone no matter what happened in the meeting but to be professionals they met with him to hear what he had to say. They didn’t react to pressure to act right away which if fine if they took an extra day. The way both those things were handled really didn’t change the end results.

I know that Mara has said many things in the past but I do believe that this time is different. It has been a long time since the Giants have been in this state of disarray. It has increasingly become more of a disaster year after year and this season was probably the worst season I have ever witnessed. Mara knows things can not be like the previous searches. Those searches for the most part they stayed in house or within their comfort zone. I think he fully understands that the NFL is passing his team by and he must adapt.

I do feel that this time they will explore many options and take their time to make what they feel is the best decision. You really can’t say that happened in the past. They may have thought they were making the right decisions but everything before felt planned and scripted. This time it feels like a different approach. Also I really don’t have a problem with Chris Mara sitting in on the interview process since he is part owner. Hell, I would want to be in on it if I was in that position.

Ultimately as long as they give the next GM the control he should have and allow him to bring in his coach, rebuild the scouting department and other areas that works for many of us. I do believe that they understand they need to pull a Jerry Jones and step back a bit.

Now will it all work out and turn this franchise around, who knows but I am hopeful that finally they will try a different approach and maybe find some success for the sake of all of us. Only time will tell if they make the right decisions but at least they moved on from DG & Judge and for what it looks like are going to handle things differently.
Thing is,

None of us want a winning team more than John Mara does. The problem is, with football, it takes years to know whether the management decisions pan out. I mean, the front office can rearrange the org chart, hire an “outsider” GM, and find a coach with a great resume, and STILL the team could suck. What will we blame it on then?

Let’s hope this time, they’ll get it right. Meanwhile, it’s Mara’s team. We’re just along for the ride.
Well put

Yet, i always read GM and control…,GM always has control in Giants land as does everywhere else. I can understand as to why they want stable pieces alongside the GM as well that dont move overtime. Otherwise your business is just a revolving shell like organization.

It’s early and I don’t want to jinx it, but it seems like Mara “gets it” now.

I am wondering if the new DC will still run a 3-4. On one hand, we don’t have the personnel to switch to a 4-3 easily. On the other, our linebackers are … not a strength.
It's entirely possible

Perhaps even probable, that David Gettleman was the polar opposite of a genius -- a transcendent difference-maker, just in the most negative of ways. Just eliminating him might be enough to nearly guarantee at least SOME improvement.
What s not

To like

Mara did everything with Gettleman, Abram and Judge that so many here claimed he would never do Their narrative has been proven to be incorrect, any of them that wants to hang on to the “clown show theme” by by moving the goal posts to focus on Chris Mara are welcomed to their misery, I m done paying attention or even giving their opinion on the matter any credence.

Jim Mora was right, “You think you know, but you really don’t “

If John realized that the only way out

was to rip off the band aid, blow it up and start from scratch, then that’s a BIG step. He’s stubborn NOT stupid. If we could see it so could he - Ana he has. Now, let’s see what happens with the GM search. As he said, he has a lot to do to win the fans back.
The easy part is done

Anyone can fire people.

Now comes the part that really matters.

But so far so good

I don't have too much of a problem

with the "Giants Way". The problem I have is that the Maras have not shown themselves to be the ones that run it. Owners meddle. I don't think the Maras are too onerous in that department.

The problem is that the Maras don't seem to be able to assemble a functioning team.

I think the GM runs the show, overall. DG was a complete disaster. That one choice set the team back most of a decade, barring some unlikely miracle turnaround.

Allegedly, the Maras are front and center with choice of coaches. It has been a long time since Coughlin, and he was kept around several years too long.

The retirement/firing of GM/HC was not some great embarrassment. The vocal part of BBI was so filled with rage, there was no semblance of sanity in a lot of the posting. We went from insisting the new GM would be saddled with Judge to Judge was hiring Abrams to Judge would pick the new outside GM to fucking Mara took 48 hrs to fire Judge. The embarrassment was BBI.
