RJ Barrett is the youngest player in franchise history to record consecutive games with at least 30 points. Kristaps Porzingis had held the record. |
Everyone in the starting lineup scored double digits, the first time since the opening game of the season.
RJ Barrett: Becoming a star in front of our own eyes. 32 points/7 rebound/2 assists. He also held the Mavericks to 3-11 on FG as the primary defender, including 2-8 from Luka Doncic. He is scoring at every level. He seems to be playing faster, which to me signals the game is slowing down for him. He's seeing the floor better and sees the seams before they develop.
Julius Randle: This is the Julius we need to see. 17 points/12 rebounds/8 assists. I can deal with the 5 turnovers if he's passing the ball and letting the other players cook. Overall good game from him.
Mitchell Robinson: No body benefitted more from the lack of Porzingis than Robinson. He was all over the glass on both sides. 19 points on 9/10 shooting with 10 rebounds. Our defense has gotten much better recently. Credit goes to Mitch.
Rj last night just played so in control and nothing the Mavs did was going to stop him, a smaller defender ok no problem mouse in thr house, bigger defender ok drive by him, pick and roll: Big drops to stop drive ok Rise and fire..
He controlled the game just like he did vs the Spurs, That midrange is going to unlock his full potential, the 3 bal is nice but that midrange is going to put Bigs in a tough spot
Brunson?
He's a UFA. W0uld be a good target. Pricey. But a real young ascending PG.
Rj is trusting his midrange and floater game more

Seems like a good compliment to Randle.

You can almost guarantee the Knicks will at least try to get Brunson

Missed out on Vanfleet. Probably willing to pony up for Brunson.

that and Rose, Thibs and Brunson have known each other for a very long time, and according to Begley they have tried for the past 2 years
Also, Luka looks sloppy.
Its going to be like that for most free agents now, Heat did it with Lowry, Bulls with Derozan..
Wouldnt be shocked if Brunson is dealt before the deadline unless the Mavs are willing to pay him big money..

Even in games where he scored really well there was some "tension" in his game. Seems loose, aggressive and confident. Great to see. Still second youngest guy on the team.

I would agree. He started with good ability to attack the rim, then added 3pt shooting and now seems comfortable scoring at other spots on the floor. He can definitely be a DeRozan level scorer. Fun to watch it come together piece by piece. Consistency is an area of remaining growth.
One thing I wonder - could you do a S&T with a third party with cap room? Like could OKC sign Brunson with room and trade him? Or is it only the original team?

only original team..
Rarely does a team refuse to sign and trade a player, you dont want to piss off Agents

Brunson makes a ton of sense but the Knick don't have cap room so it would need to be a sign and trade, which I am not sure the Mavs would do. We could give them back their 2023 first or something.

I wonder what the plans are for Mitch. If they don’t look at him as a long term piece, I wonder if Dallas would be interested in a Brunson for Robinson swap at the deadline. If they aren’t confident in being able to bring Brunson back, maybe they’d be interested in Robinson to upgrade at center over Powell and then try and resign him this off-season.
I like Mitch and when he plays like he did last night makes me want to say i dont want to trade him but i also dont want to give him 15 to 17 million a year

Agreed, I like him as a player, but if they’re going to give someone that kind of money I would rather it be in a run at Brunson than Robinson.

Robert Williams got 4/54 last summer. I wonder if there was an opportunity to lock in Mitch for something similar. That's a fair deal IMO.
The way they structured his deal, i wouodnt be surprised if he is used in a trade
