I know it's still early given what happened to him, but has anybody heard anything? Is he improving? Is he walking? How is the recovery gauged so far relative to similar injuries?
Pretty sure there was news last week that he was still facing a lot of rehab. Same story though might play this year but might not play till next year.
one of the beat reporters mentioned him a few weeks ago. He still was limping quite noticeably and didn't look very good. His injury reminds me of Suebert's injury. Ritchie lost the whole next year because of it. But he came back strong.
quoting Gates. Just typical Giants-speak. Coming along, taking it day by day, doing what the medical people tell me, can't give a timetable, hope to be back soon, yada yada yada.
Yes, sounded like doing better but a long road back
I hope his rehab proceeds well and his recovery is complete. However, I do think, based on prior updates, that he will be fortunate to return by 2023. The Giants should proceed on the assumption that Gates will not be a contributor in 2022 and seek to fortify the Center position - preferably via a high draft choice. Too bad - he was really developing well as a player. Let's hope for a return for the 2023 season.
Gates doesn't sound very optimistic about returning for 2022. I think is a situation similar to Rick Seubert a number of years back, where Rick had a similar severe injury and it took him a couple of years to get back. The team is most likely planning as thou Gates is not going to be an option anytime soon (if at all)
I wish him nothing but the best in the future. If he can't play again, then so be it, as long as he's healthy. My gut says he'll play and play well again, but it may not be until 2023.
He was definitely a guy that had the right attitude and physicality for the position. He can’t be counted on next year, if he can rebound he might be a few years away, but that was a nasty injury and there’s only so many stories like Seubert. It even took him a few years to regain his ability to play.
I don't think we should expect to see him on the field again.
I don't think the Giants can really rely on Nick Gates coming back 100% next year. I hope for a Seubert like recovery but those are always long shots.
Can keep or jettison Price for a different cheap free agent but Center actually is a must for a draft pick. And probably a Day 2 draft pick at that...
I believe RS was a back up and blocking TE (Number 69 is eligible) the second year after injury and then finally started in year 3.
