After the bullshit he pulled the year before where he purposely lost the game which kept the Giants out of the playoffs? I can't see ownership hiring him after that.
Pederson, Flores, Harbough in top 5 is encouraging
After the bullshit he pulled the year before where he purposely lost the game which kept the Giants out of the playoffs? I can't see ownership hiring him after that.
I hope that's not the reason they don't hire Pederson. While I understand the optics, if he's the best HC...especially being an offensive coach, then you have to strongly consider him.
would be a Mara veto due to "conduct." After the Giants got heat for giving up on games this year, hiring a coach who blatantly did it a couple of years ago would be a bad look.
After the bullshit he pulled the year before where he purposely lost the game which kept the Giants out of the playoffs? I can't see ownership hiring him after that.
The guy won a SB, I wouldn't dismiss him so quickly. I seriously doubt that tanking that game was his decision, he was fired because the FO wanted to pick his coordinators and he balked.
If I were interviewing him, I would definitely drill into that game and get his explanation for it. If he continues to peddle the nonsense that he wanted to get Nate Sudfeld playing time, I'd end the interview right there.
I know these guys jump around quite a lot, but this guy is right up there with the number of jumps in the shortest time:
As a coach:

I like Pederson a lot. They nearly went on another SB run the year after they won it, and Foles was the QB for parts of that season and playoffs as well
42-37-1 with Wentz/Foles/Hurts.
3x in the playoffs in 5 years.
Andy Reid pedigree and called some plays under him.
won a SB against Belichek/Brady with a backup QB (in large part due to ballsy playcalling).
was a pretty good staff builder (Reich and Schwartz).
there are issues to be looked into for sure but it's rare to have any available coaches with winning records. I'm hoping 1/3 fits with whoever the new GM is.

pederson is certainly intriguing but im not sure ownership can do it after the intentional loss....

Not going to bury the guy for one game even though it pissed a lot of people off. Doesn't take a way from the fact that he won a Superbowl and did an otherwise great job. Besides, no one knows that the order to tank the game didn't come from upstairs.

Yeah, I don't get the Pederson hate. He won a Super Bowl with a backup QB. People are more focused on a meaningless game for him than that.
Whoever gets the new GM job is going to do so in large part due to whatever strategy they convey for hiring the next head coach - and enter the organization at a time of a maximum leverage/credibility relative to ownership.
if whoever the most impressive GM candidate is says 'Doug Pederson is my guy and he is interested' I can't imagine ownership would change their GM hiring plans or impact their new GMs first decision in that way. Unless there is some kind of real background check issue. Same if any of the GM candidates are looking to go for Harbough/Flores.
Like I said considering the candidates are first time GMs it seems like a smart play to pitch experience in the head coach to balance things out.
Giants have to park a Brinks truck in front of Harbaugh's house
Flores would be a great hire. I still don't understand how a guy that won 8 of his last nine is on the market. Does a fantastic job on the defensive side.
He is working for Reid who is one of the most creative offensive minds there is. Bring in a bigtime DC and we are good. This team desperately needs a breath of fresh air on O. Someone creative so we dont see the same crap football year in and year out.
Beats me. That's why I'm not getting GM interviews
I would be OK with Pederson out of the ex-coaches. Harbaugh also for sure but out of the coordinators my favorite is Leftwich. He is really respected by his players by all accounts and I think we need to bring in someone who our players can get behind, relate to and respect.
He's a good coach who made a mistake at the end of his last season that hurt the Giants. I don't think ownership would be on board.
I am all in on Flores. An article in the Ringer today said that Flores was fired because he wanted Herbert over Tua. Otherwise, somehow he kept that team in contention with a crap roster.
The Patriots scored 27 PPG this year with a rookie QB and zero stars at the skill positions. I know there are red flags there but the guy is doing something right.
I'd lean Flores because you know you are getting a quality coach. Probably some backend stuff to figure out with him though. Could be too similar to Judge.
It may be time for Josh McDaniels as well. Don't really care about Denver a decade ago but major red flags with how Indy went down. He's a seasoned guy at this point and still young. He's ready. I know Mara dismissed the combo thing but I've read he and Adam Peters could be a package from the connection in NE.
I just want a guy that is aligned with the GMs philosphy really.

the Eagles know the right time to let a player go as they rarely do anything once they are gone. The Giants have had a brutal history of ex-Eagles coming over here with an enormous fork in their back (Brian Mitchell, Carlos Emmons, etc).
Even when Pederson was winning, I was never impressed with him. He seemed to more stumble into good fortune than any real strategic ability. He won because he had the best OL in football at the time. And the Pats team he beat was the weakest of the Patriots run by far. They had zero defense which was so unlike a Belichick team, something he fixed by the time he faced the Rams and shut them down.
Net/Net, I hope they don't go Pederson, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Giants want a guy who was a HC before. They've been burned by McAdoo and Judge. Shurmur was a re-tread. If you are going to go that route, I'd look to see if the new GM is good with Flores.

They let go Andy Reid, Randal Cunningham and Reggie White way back when.
Maybe Pederson is a bad idea, but I can't cross him off the list because of a one game, one time, shrouded in bizzaro world mystery situation. I don't think Pederson starts making game tanking a tradition if he comes here to NYG.
Dan Quinn. I really hope the Giants go the route of a former head coach who has had some success before. Quinn should have a Super Bowl under his belt if he had any sense of time management and that could have been a Shannahan issue seeing as he did it when the 49ers lost in the SB to KC. Harbaugh and Quinn have both gotten to the SB. I really would like to see one of them be the next HC.
If they haven't hired a new GM yet and have not interviewed any HC's
Second generation coach. Does he do much GB or is that Lefleur’s offense. Jacksonville’s offense was ok with what he had to work with, made Minishew, Robinson, Cole look good on that team. Much better than this year.
daboll or harbaugh
not that i cannot be talked into others but those are the two i like most.
