that's what a lot of us are saying. The Mara's own the team they can do whatever they want. But don't tell us that the two Mara's in player personnel don't do anything.
PFT in the offseason can be entertaining.

So where did this 'change' where ownership got more involved and now are making hasty decisions that are negatively affecting the product on the field and a perception that the family is 'too involved' in football decisions....

Well. 2013. Kevin Gilbride, "the offense is broken."
Fired.

That was the beginning. Instead of significantly retooling the OL Reese ignored the most significant problem. Pugh didn't work out. Richburg didn't work out.

That was the beginning of the end and we all know it. Ownership forced changes on Coughlin, not the GM. Ultimately both left and we haven't recovered because ownership keeps trying to clean up each successive mess they've made. That has led to the perception that ownership has mismanaged the football operations and here we are today.

NOW - can they fix this mess by letting a competent GM who will build the foundation the right way get aligned with a competent head coach where the talent matches the philosophy and scheme? We will find out....
Look at the delight Florio takes in ripping the Giants...and always

has been that way.

He's a rumor monger that somehow believes he has some great understanding of how NFL operations should be.
The Giants have to overcome several problems, and Florio may even have a point or two, but it doesn't give any evidence of his great knowledge of the league.
he's an ambulance chaser

The approach changed with Reese. Before Jerry, the GMs were these titans of football (George Young, Ernie Accorsi) who the Maras would naturally defer to without question. But then young Jerry comes in and maybe is a little less confident and naturally influence seeps to others, including the Maras. And once they have the influence, it's hard to take back. So Dave inherited the new dynamics. How's that for a totally uninformed, speculative opinion? I should be a "journalist" :)
It’s natural

They bring inside an outside voice and the family is sit out.

But subsequent hires are all internal and the family creeps back more with every hire.

Let’s see if this external hire can right the ship

This is funny only in that
He pretty clearly prefaced his comments with "we have no idea of the inner workings of any of these teams" at 8:40.

I also thought his point was sound. As GM, working for John Mara, when the owner's brother and Nephew are working with you in personnel, it adds a layer of complexity to the job.

No one here would feel any4hing different if they had to supervise the son of the owner of the company or work directly with the brother of he owner of the company? That wouldn't advise your thinking in any way?

That is the part that made it should a good listen IMO because I have a feeling that John Mara is somehow oblivous to it which I doubt he (John Mara) does not not seem like a "dumb" dude or just is in denial about it (more likely) regarding the complexity of the situation due to family lineage pepper above and below key lynchpin positions.

At some point he/they will have to face the truth and seems like Tisch might be trying to help set it straight without airing the biz in front of folks (which is smart).
