What are the chances we are going to get a surprise announcement that Scott Pioli or some other person with GM experience will be the new GM or Director of Football Operations? Someone with experience would have more clout to insist on front office reorganization. You are unlikely to see that with a first time GM.
Papa and Banks interviewed him this fall (and just reposted it). They spent their last podcast (BLEAV in Giants) talking about him again with Chris Bisignano from the Giants Insider. He certainly has a good tree (several of which are being interviewed). Yes...he has negatives, but any former GM/Coach will as well. Coughlin and Belichick did OK.
For me...the Giants going with a first time GM says they may not want to change the organizational structure. Which if we are going to be honest, is probably the biggest problem right now.
That really makes no sense at all.
My guess is he is not in play for GM...more of a Director of Football operations. It would also seem preordained like the Gettleman hire. They are not making that mistake again.
The announced interviews are only those they had to ask permission to interview.
A young guy looking for a real opportunity to lead could set up a plan up front and establish boundaries to make sure he's not hamstrung and ultimately fired
Nice to see you back! Well...they have to waste time interviewing a couple to satisfy league rules. I think it is strange that the voice of the Giants is pushing a guy who is not being considered for something.

Hypothetically, if he’s the guy, then wasting your time on 9 potentials increases the chance of losing a desirable HC candidate, imo

Thanks Mike. Always great to see you. Question: other than the minority “have-tos” mandated by the league, are there other rules in place? We’ve already interviewed Wilson or does that not qualify because they didn’t meet live?

That would do it as I understand. Also a really bad look. Pioli probably only makes sense as a Dir of Football operations or GM with a strong Assistant GM.
Once he left New England, where he won all those ExOTY awards largely due to riding BB's coattails, Piolo only had modest results in KC and ATL.
Hard pass.
p.s.--And the Giants don't need to be reorganized, they just need to do a better job acquiring personnel and keeping them healthy.
Not so sure about that. They could've already been talking to Pioli for months now and may be looking for an Asst. GM. Heck, the Giants have been known to draft players without ever interviewing them at the combine, attending their workouts, reaching out to their representation, etc. Just saying don't write it off completely.
It seems to me that they are going to give the new GM the reins, regardless of who they hire. He's not going to come in here just to be a super scout. He will be allowed to build the organization the way he wants, or what is he doing here.
Not a fan of looking at Pioli. We need new blood, and I don't know that his resume is all that good.

I'm not necessarily advocating for Pioli. But to say he has not been around winning organizations is complete BS. None of the candidates on the Giants list have succeeded as the guy in charge either.
p.s. The Giants organization is the laughingstock of the NFL. If the Giants have proven ANYTHING over the past 10 years is that they are inept at acquiring personnel. And that deficiency is an indictment of the ENTIRE organization. Hiring a GM and new coach and leaving everything else changes nothing.
Pioli would make sense for Poles. Also maybe Schoen with the Parcells connection.
That make him a little too close to "The Family" for me.

He is. And I agree. Reeks of indirect Giants Way... ;)
And are they going to hire a GM and then bring Pioli in and tell him he's in charge, but they hired his most important person without involving him?
Pioli would be a bad hire, and this process would make no sense.

And if we hire Ran Carthon?

Whoa...just did some sleuthing. Parcells' daughter is named Dallas?!
