Knicks stockpiling assets for a bigger deal. For now, adding Cam Reddish without taking away a rotation player means too many wings unless Alec Burks stays at PG. Presumably, Kemba Walker is back for Atlanta Saturday. Your move, Thibodeau. (twitter.com) |
It's from Berman. But it does make sense. Leon Rose has shown that he likes to move from a position of power. And with the stockpiling of assets, I see them making a move relatively soon. D'Aaron Fox for Fournier and ??
Also, does the move of bringing in Reddish reinforce the notion that Barrett isn't moving and it's slowly becoming his team?
Knicks are in Atlanta tomorrow.
I stopped watching the Knicks many years ago but I do know they made tremendous strides last season, and this season promised to be even better...
...and for this exhibition season, and the first 8-10 games of regular season, it really looked like the Knicks were finally on their way to making some real noise.
Question: WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?
Any thoughts, insights much appreciate. Thanks in advance!
For specifics, the East as a whole is better than anticipated and most of the players are having better season that last year. Randle regressed, RJ regressed (although that may have been health related as he looks much better), Kemba was not a smooth fit, etc.

Knicks regressed from last year defensively. They traded off defense for offense. When the offense goes through slumps (Fournier, Kemba, RJ an Randle), they didn't have the defense to keep them in the game. They blew a couple of leads earlier on.
Lately they got their footing and may be heading this ship back in the right direction.
They were a 500 basketball team last year until they finished strong with a 9 game win streak and finished 20-4..
They have the exact same record as they did last year at this same point so its not like they are worse than last year..
I think this years team has more talent but are having trouble finding chemistry, which i think they are starting to find..
They are 7-3 in last 10, 5-1 to start 9-17 in between when Rj and Randle were both bad..
Injuries and covid hurt them a little bit also..
Randle was an elite player last year, this year not so much. Someone speculated that it may not be a coincidence that he performed so well last year without fans around. Could be he is too sensitive to booing.
Plus it's a very different mix of players from last year. I think fans underestimate how much time it takes for a team to learn to play together.
It was around this point in the season last year that the Knicks got Derrick Rose, who had a huge impact. He has been out after ankle surgery, probably not back for another 3-4 weeks. I expect him to have an impact again. In the meantime, the young guys are getting valuable minutes. I wish they'd find more minutes for Obi Toppin, if only so we can really see what we have. But, you know, work in progress. More trades surely coming. The roster is going to look different in March.

They are fine. They have the same record as this time last year and their defense has gotten into a big time groove the last 2-3 weeks. They will finish the season above 500 and make the playoffs in my view.
In general or specifically for the Knicks?

That's about it!
He was so buried on the Hawks depth chart they took whatever they could get for him.
The kid can play and the hawks just don't have the opportunity to develop him.
I have heard the prices on some of the targets are astronomical, even a guy like Jerami Grant.
AJR - you hearing the same?

the prices are always high leading up and the deadline day the prices drop
Reddish wanted a trade to a team where he could get more minutes, Knicks didnt trade a mid first to sit him and add a disgruntled player

I agree I think Burks and/or Fournier are on the block.
I think this let's the Knicks play RJ at the 2 and get a true wing with Reddish.
I think it's a balance. Taj and Rose are Thibs guys.
I think it's a bit of both.
It really is amazing. When they brought Rose in to run things we all thought it was to add quick fix star power. Instead he has built up a great scouting team and really had concentrated on building towards the future. Not every move has worked out, but he decidedly has avoided mortgaging the future so far 2 years in.
Aller is the cap guy and supposedly has a good amount of power in the front office
Perrin is their draft guy and the guy who looks for diamonds in the rough..
Wes is the back channel guy, he has connections to a lot of players..
Perry is the leg work, calling teams about trades and canvassing thr league.
Rose takes everyones opinion and then makes a decision and that includes Thibs, you dont make moves without consulting your coach, if you get a guy your coach doesnt like or want or need the trade is never going to work..
