Odds on Neal being there at 5 ?

56GiantsUK : 1/15/2022 6:04 am
I really like the look of this guy.

Just my opinion but the first port of call is RT establish a pair of reliable bookends to build upon.

Looking at the draft listing and touted as a weak QB draft is Neal likely to go top three irrespective of the needs of the teams drafting before us ?

Thoughts appreciated.

Did you just divide 1 by 5 (Giants pick 5th = 20%) or is that your honest opinion based on available talent and needs of the top 4 teams?
Less than 50-50
jeff57 : 1/15/2022 7:04 am : link
3 of the 4 teams could take him.
Not great IMHO
Rick in Dallas : 1/15/2022 7:13 am : link
Depends alot on the health of Stingley and Hamilton.
Right now he is one of the top 3 prospects in the draft.

Agreed and I’d also throw in the possibility of someone panicking a bit and trading up for a QB, however unlikely that may be.

I'd be shocked if OT Evan Neal

Is still on the board at 5. It would be a tremendous gift if he is.

The top 3 guys in this draft will be

Thib
Neal
Hutch

Pretty confident none will be NYG. After that it’s anyone’s guess.
Listen it does not
BigBlueJ : 1/15/2022 8:15 am : link
begin and end with Neal. He is just the big name. We have a lot of options with the two top picks including trading down. Plenty of good Olineman to start a new line without over valuing that position and picking up more assets.
This is a deep draft for teams looking OL
Beer Man : 1/15/2022 8:19 am : link
There will be plenty of OL talent at 5 & 7 should the Giants choose to go that way

That's a higher percentage than I was thinking. For him to last until pick 5, I would think it would take at least one QB and more likely two QBs going ahead of him. But you know much better than me. What combination of events do you think it would take for him to last that long?
Zero
armstead98 : 1/15/2022 8:31 am : link
He’s probably going 1st
The question is….
Jolly Blue Giant : 1/15/2022 8:31 am : link
What are the chances that an OT worthy of the #5 pick is there at 5? Neal? Cross? Ekwonu?
Im not sure that I take Neal over Ikem Ekwonu
Capt. Don : 1/15/2022 8:50 am : link
Neal would be tempting but these guys can get too big.
Extremely doubtful - think Cross and Ekwonu at OT
GFAN52 : 1/15/2022 8:53 am : link
if the Giants want to go with OT at 5.
Almost none
Sammo85 : 1/15/2022 9:01 am : link
Good chance Jags take him and if not, could see Jets doing it with big worries on Bectons situation and health and needing a RT too.
Neal will be gone guaranteed.
Tuckrule : 1/15/2022 9:04 am : link
Giants should draft cross at 5
I think
MyNameIsMyName : 1/15/2022 9:32 am : link
He’ll go #1
Long odds on that one, that's for sure.
Angel Eyes : 1/15/2022 9:47 am : link
Saw this mock draft by PFN; they had the Jaguars taking Neal. Giants took Ekwonu and Ojabo... with Hutchinson still on the board.
2022 NFL Mock Draft: Evan Neal, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Kyle Hamilton rise to the top - ( New Window )
If a QB emerges
AcesUp : 1/15/2022 9:48 am : link
He could be there. I've seen enough drafts to know that he may not be a lock for the top OT when all is said and done as well.

I don’t think it’s a big deal of Neil goes before
DonnieD89 : 1/15/2022 10:09 am : link
pick #5. It’s expected. The big deal would be if both Neil and Ekwonu go before #5. What I’ve been hearing is Cross is exclusively a LT. We already have Thomas.
Could we grab Linderbaum with
Simms11 : 1/15/2022 10:37 am : link
our #7 pick? Most likely or do we trade down and grab him? He’s also a highly sought after Olineman and we need to look to solidify the middle of the line, as well. Or is there other Centers that grade out highly, that we could grab in the 2nd or 3rd round?

Likely a 2013 NFL draft redeux.
MOOPS : 1/15/2022 10:48 am : link
OTs will be king. Top five could very well be 3 OTs and 2 DEs. Weak QB class makes this seem very possible.
Fortunately they'll be talent for us at 5 and 7.

If you want Linderbaum take him at 7. Don't fuck around.

Lol... just crushed our hopes and dreams
It's early BUT my nightmare scenario is
90.Cal : 1/15/2022 11:31 am : link
Thibodeaux, Hutchinson, Neal and Karlaftis going 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th... I think that's more likely to happen than Neal is likely to be there at 5. Which sucks.
There isn't a great talent drop off.....
No Where Man : 1/15/2022 11:36 am : link
From Neal to the other higher echelon OL in this draft. We may have the chance to trade down on both picks and get later first round OL talents like Green, Penning, and Raimann, etc. and receive additional draft capital at the same time.
Perhaps the odds may change
M.S. : 1/15/2022 11:36 am : link

if there is one or two QB risers as we get closer to the Draft.

It can happen.
Just hope
Joe Beckwith : 1/15/2022 11:46 am : link
3 of the first 4 OL needy teams don’t take OL over ER or at 5 we only get the #4 OL.
It’d be great if a QB, or Leal ,Dean or surprise pick went 1-4.
The bowl games may lay out the order if there are some rapid risers or droppers in those head to heads.

I'd be shocked if Detroit passed on Hutchinson.
cant imagine the Jags
Rory : 1/15/2022 11:54 am : link
will pass with Cam Robinson a FA. An a need at the RT position
If the two EDGE rushers go 1 & 2
shadow_spinner0 : 1/15/2022 12:09 pm : link
then it depends what the Texans and Jets do. If both of them go DB (Texans go Hamilton, Jets go Stingley) then Neal has a path to go to #5. It's very unlikely but that's the only way. Lets hope both those DB's, and even the EDGE rushers impress a lot in the combine and pro days so that they go top 4.

I’d love to take him at 7. With Neal or Okwonu at 5.
Jags have their QB
Giants73 : 1/15/2022 12:45 pm : link
Now they need someone to keep him upright, if they stay at one would think they would take the best linemen in the draft.
Detroit went Sewell last year, they will probably go defense.
Jets have been picking a lot of linemen, I think they go Stingley,
Texans need a lot they are up in the air with what they pick, think that comes down to who their next HC is.

This and with any luck Jermaine Johnson is available with our 2nd rounder

5: Ekwonu
7. Linderbaum
36: Johnson
It's interesting - Tony Pauline on his podcast reviewing the CFB
Tom in NY : 1/15/2022 3:58 pm : link
Championship game mentioned that several people he talks to regularly believe Neal, despite his height, may need to move inside to Guard. In fact, I don't believe Pauline has been very high on Neal all season ("too much time on the ground").

I was surprised as I thought he was considered a clear cut top 5 pick.
