Jordan Schultz: Flores and Watson could want NY

ryanmkeane : 1/15/2022 3:28 pm
Not sure how credible this guy is - but he’s reporting that Flores and Watson have been in communication, and that Giants are at the top of their list.

I find it hard to believe any QB would want to play behind this line.

Watson is way too much of a risk

And he won't come cheap, apparently. Can't see it happening.

Can you let us know who is on “this line” next season since you apparently already know?
Why wouldn't Flores just go to Houston then?
TheWalrus : 1/15/2022 3:45 pm : link
And team up with Watson without giving away draft assets and players AND get to team up with his old New England pals?

Giants are so deep.

Seriously though, NY is the place to be. Win in NY, all sins forgiven.

Watson, I’m told, spends part of his off-season in NYC and has established business connections and friendships there as well. All of which he feels, understandably so, will be advantageous while playing for the #Giants.

Ben Roethlisberger sexually assaulted more than one woman and the entire league and all the media that covers it pretends it didnt happen. But the same people get sanctimonious about Watson. IDGAF about him one way or the other, but I do have a problem seeing BR celebrated while it is also being suggested DW should be a pariah.

Compare Ben's two incidents to Watson's 20+. Ben is a shithead, no one would dispute that. Let's stop acting like they're the same thing in the entirety.
No way

Watson comes here. There's talk that the Texans want a boat load of money for him. We all know how John Mara feels about off-field issues plus the money we wouldn't have.

The times are definitely different as the cancel culture is on 100 especially in relation to the time Big Ben was in trouble. But I tend to agree with the overarching thought that Watson's issues (absent a guilty verdict in a criminal case) can indeed get past this matter. And I will add that I do not have any opinion on the allegations that have been made against him. My point is strictly from a PR hit perspective, I can only think of Ray Rice as being one whose football career could not/did not continue.

I'm still fairly amazed at how Big Ben was forgiving so quickly and is being ceremoniously celebrated as he retires given his situations.

Not all of them were basic crank yanks. That's why a few of them wouldn't accept a settlement at the moment.

Well we’re allowed to upgrade it, no? Won’t that be one of the primary jobs of the new GM.
Watson isn't happening
butler : 1/15/2022 4:19 pm : link
Giants are just starting to claw themselves out of a nightmare with a quality GM search. They're not going to bring in a player who's been accused of sexual misconduct/assault by over 20 women.

The same reporters who are now hyping this as an interesting rumor without comment now will turn right around and be shouting, "How can they do this?" if it actually went down.

I don't know about that. "getting yanks-cranky" implies he went to places that give happy endings. That doesn't seem like what was going on. They're just allegations, but come on now. They're allegations of him forcibly doing things with women. I'd have an extremely hard time rooting for someone like that. Let someone else win with him.

It amazes me how folks will find a way to excuse horrendous behavior based on relativity. This guy did X, that guy did X +1!

Obviously this is all speculation, but hypothetically it could be that Watson will never accept playing in Houston again, under any circumstance. Who knows what's going on behind the scenes there, for all we know he could believe the organization had something to do with that news getting out

You know lines can be repaired. And QBs help lines improve. QB plays a massive role. One of the big problems with our line this season was Daniel Jones.

Although just because that's what Watson and/or Flores wants doesn't mean it's even a remote possibility which it likely isn't.

Watson is not coming to NYG
Jim in NH : 1/15/2022 6:10 pm : link
Two possibilities:

1) He gets off on the charges. With 22 complainants (that we know about), 100% chance he does it again, in NY, and we've given up picks and $$ for nothing.

2) He DOESN'T get off, and is banned from the NFL.

Please point out these same people. I think they're both creeps, and if I had to guess, I would say that Roethlisberger is the bigger creep of the two (at least Watson wasn't taking advantage of drunk college girls, but he still crossed the line by a wide margin). I was so disappointed and even surprised that the Steelers ownership stuck with Roethlisberger. There are some things more important than winning and I don't know what I would do if I were a Steelers fan, because he is not a guy I could see myself rooting for.
IMO...no chance in hell this happens.

The uproar of us trading for a dude like Watson & his off the field issues...knowing what we know about Mara-a man who is obsessed with optics-I can't see it happening.

COMP
BleedBlue : 1/15/2022 8:59 pm : link
im not sure the comp is going to be as high as you all think.

Dont forget those off field things affect houston as well...if they dont want to chance it they will part for less.
im not saying we get him for a 3rd but i think its possible something like

Jones
#5
2023 2nd

gets convo started....

If his off field stuff goes away, sure maybe price goes up but iof he refuses to play, houston will have to deal him...

You forgot 3) The Trevor Bauer scenario. He comes here, fucks up again, gets cut or suspended, and the Giants are on the hook for his salary and cap hit while he's in legal limbo.

So we took Parsons off our board for a hazing incident when he was 18

But we will trade for Watson which would be at least 2 1st round picks plus pay him $30 Million plus?

I highly doubt it.

Can we not restructure?
I’m trying to figure out two things from this thread
djm : 1/15/2022 11:41 pm : link
How we have bigger fish to fry is number one and number two how we can’t ever even dream of adding a guy like Watson, even if cleared, because the big bad media in this area won’t let that story go, but other nfl teams could deal for Watson??? Yea I ain’t buying it.

We have bigger fish to fry??? It’s qb.... what’s bigger than that??

Not that I give this story or podcaster any credibility...

If Watson was cleared and we could get him??? Have some of you lost your mind???? Of course you go after him.
If he was cleared
djm : 1/15/2022 11:44 pm : link
And we traded 3 first rounders and figured out how to fit him in, the second he went 350 3 tds this place would go bananas for him. He scored pts with trash around him in houston. Mvp caliber talent. This is the exact layer any team needing a qb goes all in for. Again, assuming he’s cleared which is a big assumption at this point.

"NFW is Watson coming here". Well I don't see any blood loss from throwing a feeler out there.
If his name is cleared
Bleedblue10 : 1/16/2022 8:07 am : link
I say go all out for him. We need a quarterback. Fix the line, get a pass rusher blah blah blah. We aren’t winning shut without a good quarterback. Look at Burrow yesterday, his line sucks but he makes them look much better. Herbert the same thing. A top shelf qb hides all those flaws. People forget we still have lemioux and I’m not holding my breath on gates but there is more to the draft than the first round. I want to build up the roster as much as the next guy but if we have a chance to get a legitimate top 5 qb we should at least explore it

Taking Parsons off the board was an unbelievably stupid move. But not sure doing the same with Watson is.

Great player, but many questions
