do you remember 2008? those fuckers wont be embarrassed on the world stage. theyd figure out a way to hold the winter olympics in the sahara if they had to.
Both Beijing and Sochi were bad decisions. For alpine events, you really need the Alps or the Rockies (or Sapporo Japan). Anywhere else these days, and you're taking a big risk that the snow just won't be there.
That said, I'm not sure how many cities in the Alps or Rockies are lining up to host the Winter Games. Maybe not enough.
This really makes the case for the games to comeback to Lake Placid NY
what a crappy venue. and the IOC complained like 10 years ago Lake Placid was too small now to have the games there which is total Bullcrap when i see this.
I read a couple of years ago that most of the ski mountains in the world won’t have snow in the coming decades. It’s almost as if there’s something wrong with the planet.
Quote:
Built on the northwest slope of Mohawk Mountain in 1947, Mohawk Mountain Ski Area offers 26 runs for skiers and snowboarders. Unfortunately, its operations may be limited going forward, as even optimistic climate change models predict that southern New England ski areas will have such short seasons by 2040 that they won’t be economically viable.
New England as a whole is warming faster than almost anywhere else in the world—with Alaska the only exception. While annual precipitation is on the rise in the region (up 71% from 1958), fewer winter days are falling below freezing temperatures
I used to go night skiing at Mohawk when I was a kid. Another mountain on this list is in New Mexico where I just got back from. Sad, the planet is so fucked.
If interest is low, it's probably because it's in China. I think if the games were held in the U.S. this year, Mikaela Shiffrin would be one of the most-followed athletes in the country for the next five weeks. At 26, she is on track to become the most accomplished skier, man or woman, in the history of skiing. And, sadly, the story of her father's sudden untimely death would be told endlessly.

The 10 Ski Resorts Most Threatened By Climate Change - ( New Window )
Climate change doesn't exist, that's what my governor says.
No climate issues there.
Politics aside i thought the 2008 Olympics were the best i have ever seen. So i expect a pretty good olympics
For reference ive watched since Lillehammer and have full memories of atlanta.
